I don't think they did that. The interviewer did bring to light that the decide to withdraw fell on both the Trump and Biden administrations, when the general initially only mentioned the Trump admin.

I think going into Afghanistan with brigades and regiments was a horrible mistake. We should have fought that war with special forces and pinpoint strikes. Instead, we did the worst thing possible, we started occupying a land that is impossible to occupy, from Alexander the Great, to Great Britain, to the USSR. But it sure made a lot of money for the contractors and politicians, which, as the war in Ukraine has shown, was the point all along.

When I read Pompeo 'negotiated' the release of 5000+ Taliban/ISIS terrorists being held in jails PRIOR to the August U.S. withdrawal date, my first thought was 'where TF did Pompeo think those terrorists would go - Disneyland?' I'm not a West Point graduate like Pompeo is, but I've read "The Art of War" several times and I knew that A-stand 'situation' was a disaster waiting to happen!

There was never a 'clean' way to get out of Afghanistan. The decision was stay or leave and while you can argue the policy, the result was always going to be the Taliban's return to power. It just happens that the timetable was quicker than the intelligence indicated, but the outcome was never in doubt. Those who do are engaging in magical thinking or denial...

I don't think anyone could have foreseen that the Afghan army which was three times larger and better equipped than the Taliban would simply cut and run and leave their country to the Taliban forces. Bs. Trump's plan was based on conditions, Biden"s was a crap show.... do not forget that the disastrous withdrawal resulted 13 service members death and tens of thousands of Afghanies. The general should have resigned if as he said he disagreed with plan. It is disgraceful to profit from a failure that cost that many lives.
