Given a choice between war and getting all its hostages back, Israel has opted for more war, argues Israeli journalist Gideon Levy.
Levy tells host Steve Clemons that Israeli politicians may abandon Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but even if he was replaced, Israel would continue its war on Gaza and occupation of the Palestinian people as a whole. “Radical change” in Israeli attitude and U.S. support is needed for any improvement in the situation, says Levy.
After Oct. 7, even those on the Israeli left believe that Israel has the right to do whatever it wants, the Haaretz columnist argues.

Gideon makes a good point that the blind support of anything that Israel does will not continue in the US as the current generation of US students grow up into the mainstream. The US is a budget deficit country borrowing huge amounts that need to be repaid by future generations to fund Israel’s atrocities in order to maintain its racist apartheid system. Israel is a developed country with a world class healthcare system which the US still doesn’t have. Future generations will insist that US borrowings should be spent domestically, rather than in financing endless death and destruction in foreign lands. Sadly there are many intelligent psychopaths. I would think it requires wisdom which results from the combination of experience and intelligence. In Finland schools focus on instilling empathy in children in the first two years. I like that approach. To me empathy results when the head and the heart communicate in perfect harmony. A staggering percentage of global leaders don’t operate with wisdom, they are guided by the hunger for power and greed. This kind of intelligence is a lop sided affair that only benefits the ruling elite.

I respect you Mr Levy. I am a believer in the Torah and Yeshua Messiach. My love for Israel is steadfast, however I am disappointed by lack of humanity the government has displayed towards the Palestinian people. They seem to have forgotten the Holocaust.
