DESCRIPTION
UE5 Mixamo Animation Retargeting 2 is an editor plugin that helps integrating Mixamo assets (exported from Auto-Rigger, 3D Characters, 3D Animations) into Unreal Engine 5.
With few clicks, it allows you to use any Mixamo animation with any UE5 and MetaHuman characters. It supports Root Motion animations and allows you to create Root Motion animations from Mixamo In-Place animations.

Hi, I get this error when importing Failed to import 'C:\........\WalkCrouchingLeft.fbx'. Failed to create asset '/Game/.........../Maxiamo/Mesh/Mesh/WalkCrouchingLeft'. Please see Output Log for details.

I'm having a strange issue. I was able to import some Mixamo animations and they were working great with your plugin for my Metahuman character. But when I tried importing some new Mixamo animations (and even if I try to re-import the ones that previously worked), Unreal gives me the following error message: Failed to import '...\Happy Walk.fbx'. Failed to create asset '/Game/MetaHumans/Happy_Walk'. And in the Output log it says: "Mesh contains root bone as root but animation doesn't contain the root track. Import failed." Any idea what might cause this?

Hi! It's known limitation of the Unreal Engine importer when the animation has no root bone but the target skeleton has one. Fortunately there's a workaround! @@UNAmedia Thanks for the quick reply. I was able to get it to work by importing a second copy of the Mixamo character and following all of the steps in the video above. Do I understand correctly that we should retarget all of the animations we want to use for the project at the start, and if any new animations need to be retargeted after that, we need to reimport a copy of the Mixamo character and do the whole process again?

@@braincandytv Yes, you're correct. Since the plugin adds a "root bone" to the Mixamo character (to add support for Unreal Engine Root Motion animations), new Mixamo animations are missing it and the Unreal Engine importer, instead of ignoring the missing track, is unfortunately reporting it as an error.

Hi! It requires some time to update a plugin when a new version of Unreal Engine is released, since its API change. Then some time is also needed by Epic to review it before making it available in the UE Marketplace. If everything goes well, we should submit to Epic the version for the new UE5.3 next week.

I am trying to do this for my vrm character, but is is not showing the retargeting skeleton source when I try retarget Mixamo skeleton source. Does this only work for UE5 metahumans samples?

Hello! The plugin works with Mixamo skeletons and UE4/UE5/MetaHuman skeletons. The "Retarget Mixamo Skeleton Asset" action appear only when right-clicking on a Mixamo skeleton. If the option doesn't appear, double check to have enabled the plugin and that the asset type is a Skeleton. I see the Retarget Option, but my vrm character skeleton does not appear in the retarget source, how do I get my character converted to metahuman @@UNAmedia

@@KikyoAdventures As mentioned before and documented in the product description, the plugin works only with skeletons compatible with the Mixamo and UE4/UE5/MetaHuman ones. The "Select retargeting skeleton" window lists only skeleton assets compatible with the UE4/UE5/MetaHuman skeletons. If the skeleton of your skeletal mesh is not listed, it means that it's not compatible with the mentioned skeletons, and the plugin doesn't know how to map its bones with the Mixamo ones. Double check that your character is compliant to the UE4/UE5/MetaHuman ones (bone names, bones hierarchy, etc).

Amazing ! But how should I do if I want the f_tal_unw_body instead of f_med_nrw_body ?

Hi! Thanks :) “It just works” Adapting the played animation to another body dimension is handled automatically by the MetaHuman system. It expects the played animation to match the f_med_nrw_body, then it will “adapt” it at the used body mesh at run-time. If instead you provide an animation matching a skeletal mesh other than f_med_nrw_body, then MetaHuman will deform it.

This all works fine but if I add the metahuman to the sequencer, add the same animation to the body its not playing the animation? Alos the shoulders are reallt wierd and backwards

Hi! Using MetaHuman with the Sequencer doesn't involve our plugin. Anyway we have it covered in our Knowledge Base: unamedia.com/help/ue5-mixamo/metahuman-sequencer About the shoulders, for best results we suggest to use the Mixamo "passive_marker_man" character as animation source: unamedia.com/help/ue5-mixamo/best-mixamo-character-for-animations . Usually this results in optimal retargeting with MetaHuman. If some adjustments are anyway needed, here you can find some tips: www.unamedia.com/ue5-mixamo/docs/improve-retargeting-results/

@@UNAmedia Thanks and Yes I know the process with adding Metahuman to Sequencer but when adding the retargeted animations to the metahuman track it doest work like in your document, nothing happens. Hence I reached out.

@@Greenrobotvp The retargeted animations are generated by Unreal Engine, not by our plugin. Does playing an animation not from Mixamo works? If it works and it doesn't with the retargeted one, please join our Discord support server (discord.gg/PuAyhDctHp) and share screenshots and a video of your setup, so we can look at it. Thanks.

@@UNAmedia OK thank You, I can share it this evening. Apreciate that. Its works on the Mixamo character fine but with the metahman, Id double click the animation and it plays but in sequencer nothing happened once I add it to the body . but will join the Dicord this evening and get in touch 🙏
