You nailed it! I came here after listening to another video where the narrator talks so fast, it's like they're on coke or something. Some of these narrators deliver like an an auctioneer at an auction.

@@b3naqua It also gets to the point where it verges on "jabbering". Talking super fast used to be considered in poor form for a speaker. "Elocution: the skill of clear and expressive speech, especially of distinct pronunciation and articulation." They used to teach this in schools back in the day....
@b3naqua

I wish they still taught elocution in school tbh. In the book Stolen Focus (the book I mentioned in the video), the author talks about how humans talk statistically way faster than ever because of the rapid speed of information thru technology. We move faster, talk faster, consume faster, etc - but the kicker is our brains haven’t evolved yet to correctly store and retain these high levels of information and virtual interaction our screens present. For example, we can speed read through a book, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we will actually be able to focus deeply or remember what we actually read. It’s a fascinating book, and it definitely put a lot of these topics into perspective.

Self depreciation is good in this video. I've done the quick talk in my videos before. But it's learned behavior to pace yourself. Your point is relevant in many aspects of life. New KZbinrs are similar to young recruits entering boot camp. We tell them to "stop singing" when they respond to commands. I don't know if it's focus in all scenarios.

Interesting point! Thx for sharing your experience. And agreed - it's not just KZbin where clear, genuine communication is v important. It's a good challenge to learn to communicate effectively and authentically.

I like this idea. Been following since the Panasonic days. I've been trying more "natural" videos lately. I honestly think this DJI Pocket 3 makes it easier for me to do this. When I take the time to setup the A7S3, lighting, audio, etc. I feel like I have to be more "professional". 🎄

Joe! I appreciate the comment and the support after all these years 🙏🏼 your channel has grown so huge!! Big congrats for that 👏🏼 You made an excellent point about the osmo pocket 3 - it’s interesting how smaller cameras (esp ones like the pocket which don’t even look like a camera lol) enable another type of personality/performance. Phones also have a very different affect for me in that way vs a big mirrorless camera rig like you said. I prefer watching more “natural” content these days tbh (like the more raw/unedited the better…kinda drained from watching so much commercial behavior in vids, including myself lol), and I’d be really curious to see what you create along those lines too!

Great topic. Fast talking is a common trait among popular KZbinrs and popular people in general. It's a strategy and it's why TikTok is popular. A lot of information is thrown at you at high volume and it appears interesting because it's so noisy. Like an explosion. People are sedated by word explosions. Much like a casino sedates you with a sensory explosion. So that you keep pumping money into the slot machine. Fast talkers can make a five minute video that says nothing but seems like it could mean something. Therefore people will watch to the end, then watch another one. If you talk slow for five minutes and say nothing, people will stop watching before the end of the video and not watch another. If you talk fast, you can BS your way through anything. This is what most comedians and pick up artists do. The noise is the entertainment. If you talk slow, you have to actually be smart and thoughtful. That's a lot of work. No one wants to work...regardless if they are talking or listening. Mr Beast knows that it's much easier to get 100 million views with a video that is a high volume sensory explosion, than it is with a video that Werner Herzog would make. Werner Herzog has a thoughtful style of talking and shooting that is extremely hard to duplicate. Mr Beast is easy to duplicate. Just crank the volume and throw mud at a wall...and wait to see what happens next. If you want to talk slow on KZbin, it may help to script the video. Then add very static camera work as well. Lock the camera down. Dress more formal. Stop fidgeting. Set the tone. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. 🎄

Excellent points! I feel like some type of middle ground and compromise between the 2 communication styles would be the sweet spot. I’ve been favoring slower/more relaxed/informal videos lately, and quickly clicking away from hyperspeed/crazy editing/overproduced ones. Like I’d much rather watch someone with 23 subs talking authentically to a camera with zero editing and b-roll, then a Mr Beast kinda situation. I get why he’s so popular but his editing style and voice drive me nuts lol

When I was younger the attention span was 15 minutes because that’s how long it was between commercials on tv. Now it’s about 3 seconds. I tend to watch slower shows. Walking channels chill. I can tell when some I went to the schools of Casey and have the camera on the ground or in a microwave

@@b3naquayes. I was a corporate trainer for awhile and it’s hard to keep people’s attention for an entire day let alone an hour. Constant engagement and checking for understanding It may seem impossible to do in a remote setting. I have virtual meetings now and I make it mandatory that the cameras are in and I stop and ask questions often.
