The HD1 is an Awesome dual band DMR and analog HT. I have only owned it two weeks and it has became my go to HT.

Glad to hear you are looking after your family. I’ve heard rumors that this radio does not expect 50-ohms impedance from the antenna (despite the specs) and thus limits the use of aftermarket antennas to avoid high SWR readings. Have you heard anything about this? How do we confirm/correct this?

Dear Stuart I will look into this for you. Most radios, especially handhelds don't expect a perfect match, but it usually shouldn't cause a big issue. We have plenty of antennas to try, and I had no issues with a huge Diamond X510! 73, Jarrad VK3BL :)

DMR is just another digital mode like fusion (try Fusion wide for a better sound) and DStar. It’s different to set up and most Chinese radios and the software is poor. So for this radio please look at adding multiple repeaters and talk groups then adding the DMR contacts to the radio. Second see if it can support roaming with multiple repeaters and any type of APRS functionality. Like broadcasting your position. Note most DMR radios don’t travel well so let us know how that works. Thank you!

Ive been waiting for you to review this radio, life dose have a habit of getting in the way but family always should come first. I want to buy a digital radio but not sure which to get, DMR, Dstar or Fusion. DMR is half the price so that alone might make my decision.
