I have 1pr of FRS. A second set that can do both FRS and GMRS with a base unit that can also do both... Then there are the CBS and multiple ham radios... Now to set up a radio group for my area...

Thanks, Linda. The Russian thing was a bit of a surprise, lol 😆 the majority of all walkies are far from secure. Some manufacturers claim that they are, but the couple of HAM guys I know sat they are not. Encryption is possible, but some say it's illegal, lol. I'm no expert in this field. We have learned over the years not to use any identifying info and use call signs and so on. I've heard Spanish on some of my gmrs radios but never Russian. It's very intriguing, to say the least. Grey they have the no code amateur radio licence, with my handy talkie and my repeater I can reach my whole state. The repeater is linked.These radios look like the perfect option for non ham operation.

Evening Grey. Good review. Radios and communication is not something I have skimped on. That's not to say I haven't saved a dollar or two along the way, but never skipped on quality. Sure all of us like a longer distance in transmission, but sometimes, some situations, long distances may be detrimental to safety. ( You never know who has what and are listening in from down the road )

If anyone wants to turn off the CTCSS privacy tones in their #RetevisNR30, you can do it manually without using the software. This will allow you to hear others when they are transmitting. The following is the procedure: 1) Turn radio off 2) Press transmit and the little button with (2) nubs below the transmit button at the same time 3) While holding those buttons down, turn the radio on (it will make the 'on' sound) but keep holding those buttons until you hear a beep. Release the two buttons. 4) At this point all the privacy tones will be disabled until you repeat this same process to turn them back on. 5) Basically it is the same as selecting or de-selecting the checkbox in the software 6) Hope this helps

The signal broke down a bit at 9miles when transmitting inside the car, but when she got out at 12miles it was crystal clear. We are approx 150’ higher than town with a couple small hills in the way…high desert 4600’

I have a pair of midlands as well, I r4eally like them but their battery life in uses is not the best. I like to see how the midlands distance does vs these or other GMRS radios you may have. Being GMRS is one of the most common radio handset on the market.

Another thing to consider using the radio insidethe vehicle can greatly reduce the signal gettingout of the vehicle... Basically in a faraday cage so to speak...

Grey we live on about 10 acres or so how well do you think these or radios like these would work? Something we are lack here is ways to communicate during emergencies or general use.

These would work, 10 acres is roughly about 1/2 mile. I'd suggest setting up a homebsse and then getting several handheld for yourself, family and friends. So everyone is on the same system and everyone can grab a radio when heading out the door and stay in touch, especially during emergencies or troubling times. 😁👍
