I have this type radio in the MURS frequency. It is 5 channels in the VHF range and has up to 2 watts of power. It is also certified by the FCC. Good radio but it does not allow for the antenna to be removed. The first thing I thought was they will also make this for the FRS with that configuration. This video proves me right. Both FRS and MURS do not require a license. The FRS radio must not have a removable antenna. The MURS radios do not have such a requirement although Retevis does it anyway. Oh, well.

I have had two of these radios for months. The fact is that they are as deaf as a post. You will be lucky to hear anybody more than a few hundred yards away. They DO have their good points; solid build and quite small in size, easy to programme to knock off those wretched CTCSS codes that restrict who you can talk to, and the power can be bumped-up to two watts. I would save my money for two RT24 units. **I DO disagree with the point about scanning here, but as I said only very close transmissions can be heard while scanning.

You should contact the manufacturer if you have such problems. We didn't experience any of that, in fact, these FRS radios had the best range of all the units we had at the time, including Motorola and Cobra, so we were quite satisfied with their performances.

@@Ham4All I know others who have bought these; the same deafness is experienced. Retevis were contacted, giving them details of tests using radios like the Baofeng UV82, UV-5R, a Yaesu and other PMR446, units, (Motorolas &, Binatones.) The inability to hear transmissions that the Retevis RT 24 could clearly hear, was apparent. I was under the impression that the RT27 had been withdrawn, as Retevis sent me a free RT1 as an apology. I just got my MURS Retevis. Maybe next they will come out with a radio that gets both FRS and MURS?
@Ham4All4 жыл бұрын
Not possible due to regulations. They MUST be separate units.
@dannyo66994 жыл бұрын
@@Ham4All that figures. Oh well. they're inexpensive enough.
@Ham4All4 жыл бұрын
Compared to the limited options out there, these are the least expensive ones, and the overall quality of the units is very good!

@@Ham4All I have been using the MURS radio at work, and it's working fine. It seems to perform about the same as the Motorola units we use. The only concern I have is since there is no display, I have no idea about battery life remaining so I don't know when the power is getting low, up until it's out of power. I've used it 2 days on 8 hour shifts, and so far so good.

So, if I don’t want to hear other walkie style radios and want a little privacy these would be a good way to go I guess?
