1, 7, turn on…! YOU ARE A LIFESAVER. Mine came locked to only 430-440 and 144-147 MHz and I thought I'd made a huge mistake but now I think it's going to be really useful.

The RT-85 is working with Chirp now in 2023. I still use the Retevis software sometimes, but I love having Chirp so I can drag and drop from other radios I already have programmed.

I know nothing about ham. U may have already mentioned this so I apologize in advance, what am I able to do with this radio out of box b4 any programming??

Out of the box, this radio was programmed for some odd frequencies. Off hand, I don't remember what frequencies,. However, you can manually input frequencies from the front panel, listen to weather, listen to FM radio. Good luck with everything!

I believe at least on some programming software for the NOAA and whatever else you don't want to transmit on you can leave the TX FREQ. blank and it will disable TX. I think CHIRP is like that.

AS a plan "B" so it doesn't autofill NOAA, program in 144.000 in tx. Least you'll be in the ham band W9DLP

Plan B is to set the duplex mode to "off" in Chirp. Rather than "(None)."

Can you not save direct from the vfo to memory or do you have to use software to program? I like to add on the fly but this seems to not have a save to memory function like the baofeng does.

Yes. Programing with computer makes it easyvto understand. No big deal. Doesn’t need to use it for now. Maybe in a future

Hello. I would suggest finding the police frequencies for your area and if they're analog (not digital).... You can put in the frequencies into the recieve sections of the software. Where are you having issues

I just found this information from a few months ago: " The new UV88 radios shipping to the US are pretty well locked down in firmware, You can not receive anything above 450Mhz or 148Mhz even when you program the radio with the CPS. I tried with both CHIRP and the TYT CPS. My intent was to monitor a couple of public safety frequencies. No Joy."
