I am so thankful for this video. Three days ago I found my tretinoin cream 0.05 percent after almost a year of keeping it back in a cupboard and forgetting about it. (stupid me). I bought retinol serum from the doctor I had a few years ago and have been using it. Now that I'm in my 70's I think tretinoin is a better upgrade. I just opened my old box of tretinoin(unopened) and started it last night in fact. Expiration date is next month. It is a creamy consistency and spreads nicely. I woke up this morning and saw my face looked so smooth. until I reorder I will continue using it. I would also like to finish the retinol serum. I loved how you explain your experience with tretinoin and how you applied it. You filled in all the small details of what I always wanted to know. I never knew retinol was the weakest level of retinols. Agency sounds interesting especially thru your recommendation. (I'm prone to redness also). Also, wow, you look gorgeous in pink!.

I have to get on the Retin-A train sooner than later. What has stopped me was, waiting to go to a dermatologist, plus the cost. Well I'm going to one soon for another issue, so will discuss then. I like how you mentioned MaryEllen started after 60. Never too late. It'll help with the same conditions at any age. You and Melissa 55 have been on it a long time, it shows. She started in 1987. As Wayne Goss commented, she could be the poster child for Retin-A. You're over 20, she's over 30. Kudos for starting early. Thanks Tamara.🤗

Oh my gosh yes! Melissa55 is SO gorgeous and her skin is testament to the long term benefits of Tretinoin. We all wish we had started taking care of our skin sooner (no SPF back in the day). But I also love that so many ladies have had great results later in life as well. It's never too early OR too late...I'm excited for you to start your Tretinoin Journey...keep us posted!

I started with trentinoin .025 in Nov 21. I started very slowly and worked my way up to 4 nights per week after 9 months. Even with that and all the tips and tricks I still had the peelies and what I think was barrier damage. I just couldn’t deal with it anymore. I completely stopped in July 22. About 2 weeks ago I started with the Ordinary Granactive Retinol. I use that every other night or so. My plan is to work my way through the retinols then the retinals and eventually back to the trentinoin.
@TamarasTimelessBeauty
@TamarasTimelessBeauty Жыл бұрын
Sounds like a plan. Barrier Damage is scary...indicated by when the skin is overall inflammed, red and very sensitive where products suddenly sting your skin. Although peeling skin can indicate barrier damage...The peelies as I call them, do not necessarily always mean barrier damage. For years my skin would sort of cycle through a peelie phase...no matter how much moisturizer I used. Once I started adding in a gentle AHA toner or mask the peelies subsided. For a while I was using Pixi Glow Tonic every morning and was amazed at how it virtually eliminated the peeling skin. A couple more very gentle options are the ordinary Lactic Acid Serum and Maysama Green Rooibos Gentle Resurfacing Toner. However, AHAs can be tricky to fit in...they aren't super compatable with Vitamin C which I love using in the AM, and should not be used in the same routine with Tret...because of that I switched to using either a pumpkin enzyme mask or an AHA exfoliating mask once or twice a week and it has also kept the peelies at bay. (on those days I skip tret). Hang in there...you have a great approach and I love the fact that you know your skin so well and listen to what your skin is telling you.
@lauriec73
@lauriec73 Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Tamara. The peelies started first and then the barrier damage. It took me from July until Christmas to repair my skin 😧. I’m using the ordinary lactic once or twice a week right now and the ordinary Aha peel once every two weeks. Excited to restart this process and I think this even slower approach will be better for my sensitive skin. Thanks for all your guidance! ❤️

Retinols are much easier to begin with and if you can find a natural retinol that is encapsulated ( not pharmaceutically enhanced) it is the best for your skin to take in. It’s also very important what you use before and after and realize that if your skin isn’t ready for retinol it can cause issues. I love to teach massage at night after you apply your retinol to create blood flow and therefore oxygenation skin cells and create collagen. 🙌🏻🍑🧡Lisa

I had blemishes as a teen and off and on through my 30s. I tried Retin A but it was irritating and my doctor suggested I discontinue. Because of complexion challenges, I have always been diligent in using skin care and know that has been instrumental in having a good start in general, but just started Retinol in 2020. I have repurchased The Ordinary 5% Retinol in Squalane a few times. I use Rosehip Oil on some nights and Truth Treatment 5% Retinol gel once a week. I get compliments on my skin at 64 so feel good but always interested in trying products. As such, I just ordered Naturium Retinaldehyde to change it up and see if one chemical conversion offers added improvement. I also use Niacinimide, Peptides, Antioxidants - You name it. So when you spoke of the benefits of Agency with these varied ingredients working “synergistically” it made perfect sense. Very thorough details as always, Tamara!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. It’s very helpful to learn from others’ experience. I’ve had a rocky journey with tret. I was using Renova for many years at the lowest strength. People used to tell me that my skin looked so dehydrated and dry, that I need a moisturizer. Nothing really made it look better. I finally quit since my skin looked so bad. What was the point? Several years ago I tried Curology. Again I was in a low strength and I tolerated it well. Then they uped the strength (to the Renova level) and there I was again- a mess. When winter came I had to back off. I couldn’t even use it 1x a week. I had many bottles backed up in my cabinet that I couldn’t use. I had to quit. Now I’m using a mild retinol and I hope to gradually move up to retinal. It’s so hard since my skin is so dry but the more moisturizer s I use the more milia I get. Very frustrating! Thanks again for the video.

Thanks again Tamara, and Happy 2023! 💕❤

Yay! I'm so glad you found it helpful! My sweet spot is 5 or 6 times a week...I take advantage of my off nights by using either a pumpkin enzyme or AHA exfoliation treatment mask to get rid of dead skin and keep the peelies at bay. Tret does stay active in the skin for several days, that's why they always say to stop tret at least several days to a week prior to anything super strong like waxing or laser, so 3 or 4 times a week is still getting you there! One of my friends alternates her RetinAL with Tretinoin and finds that to be her happy place. As always, I am keeping you and your husband in my prayers.

Hi Tamara ! Great informative video . I’ve been using Tretinoin off & on for about 30+ years . My last long stretch of taking a break with it , my girlfriend starting selling Mary Kay and they came out with a prescription strength Retinol system so I thought why not give it a try and the price was right , ( friends and family discount ) they have a program to follow and a full instruction chart to RETINIZE your skin for 8 weeks . I saw fabulous results . It’s not that I didn’t like it I went back to prescription tretinoin cause lately I have been trying different sunscreens and products that are breaking me out so I have to stop with a product and reintroduce it to see what is the culprit. I periodically use aha exfoliants or masks with your suggestion to take care of the Peelies lol . I know a lot of you ladies use the cureology / agency but I’m not ready to commit to another subscription . We have a cold spell for us here in Florida lows 44 Yaay ! High of 60 heaven !! Tamara, I have been inspired by your video to try tretinoin. I signed up for agency and just heard back from them. They are starting me on Tretinoin 0.005%, this is a real low dose right? It stated to start off using this 3 times a week (M, W, F). I’m just wondering your thoughts because on your video, you kind of mention to start slower, maybe once a week for a few weeks and see how it goes. I have dry sensitive skin like yours, so wondered your thoughts. If you would start out doing the the 3 days a week like they suggested. I also wondered your thoughts on a good oil type product to remove makeup. I’m currently using Paula’s Choice Gentle Makeup Remover and then I use Skinceuticals Gentle cream cleanser after. But after doing some reading seeing the the oils cleansers might work better and hydrate my skin more. Especially since i am starting tretinoin. Can you recommend a good brand. See the Clinique balm, do you like that one? A little pricey. Thanks in advance for your advice. It is so appreciated!

How exciting Patty! Before Agency the lowest dose was 0.025% which is much higher and at that dose 1x a week is a good starting point. But yes, 0.005% is a nice low dose and 3 times a week is probably fine. Just monitor your skin and if you see irritation or redness you can reduce the frequency. Clinique Balm is super highly rated...I have never tried it mostly because of the price. One of my favorite most used cleansing oils is Hado Labo Cleansing Oil. Very gentle, effective and affordable, and it has refills making it even more affordable. It melts makeup away and rinses clean. Available on Amazon here: amzn.to/400ArBj DHC makes a nice cleansing Oil as well but a little higher in price. As far as balms, Elf Holy Hydration Cleansing Balm is a good one, super easy to find at any drugstore. One of my higher end favorite Balms is Bay Harbor Beauty Saki Cleansing Balm ...very rich and emollient...you do need a cloth to remove all residue though. I have a discount code for Bay Harbor Beauty in the description box. I do updated AM and PM skin care routines twice a year...you can find them on my skincare playlist here: kzbin.info/aero/PLa6JyEqIvicWvAHCB9fu2CbzVIKTVP3YA

I’m on curology, not happy. How do I change to agency since they are sister company’s ?

I'm so sorry to hear that! I believe you simply cancel Curology and sign onto Agency...but I will double check to see if there is a way they can more easily transfer you over and get back to you.

fYI, Agency does NOT customize, no dermatologist talks to you when you start a free trial. I just went through the steps for a free30-day trial and after clicking through, I got the ‘formula’ right away which seems to me that was NOT customized!!! I did not go through with it because it is not worth it. I have been using Maelove's moonlight serum and I would have liked to know how to build on that and actually talk to a professional. Also, the cost is $60 every other month, which I found expensive.

I'm sorry to hear you were disappointed. While I have not spoken directly on the phone with my Derm provider, she has been very good at answering my questions and conversing via email. For me it has simplified my routine...at one point I had a stand alone Tranexamic Acid Serum and a stand alone Niacinamide toner in addition to so many other possibly unnecesary actives which was pretty expensive. I enjoy having it all included in my treatment cream. Plus I LOVE the Dark Spot Formula. Thank goodness the first month is free! As far as transitioning or building from a Retinaldehyde to a Rx Tret...I have heard of people replacing the Retinal with Tret one or two nights a week and gradually replacing Retinal with Tret. One of my friends alternates her Retinal and Tretinoin and has found this to be her happy place.

What are your thought of Agency v actual Tretinoin? Do you think it works just as well?

Agency Future Formula does contain actual Tretinoin...I personally like it better because Agency is able to offer more strengths and includes other powerful actives that work synergistically with the Tret. And the formula is silkier and easier to spread...ALSO, I love the pump that delivers the exact amount needed. I used generic Tret for close to 20 years and I much prefer Agency.
