My parents are from Cadiz, I have been there numerous times. All my family are 5 to 10 minutes away from La caleta and Playa victoria. The life there is laid back, the people are extremely friendly, and the food is amazing. I look forward to purchasing a home there soon. Currently in Canada, and boy do I miss Cádiz it just feels like home. Thank you for all this information. Ps. I would have liked to have heard the process for an NIE number. Thanks again for sharing about this beautiful historical city.

Hi Raquel, thank you for your comment! I would think you could easily become a resident of Spain through descent. I'd look into that first, which is the easiest route for most. We use Lexidy that can help in these matters, they are headquartered in Barcelona and their entire team speaks english if you do not speak Spanish. Keep us posted on your journey!! Here's the link to Lexidy should you want to inquire about NIE and Residency: www.lexidy.com/services/spain/immigration/?AdventureFreaks&

If you want to use the Spanish pronunciation, it is "CA-deeth." Accent is on the first syllable.

I spent a few days in Cadiz a few years ago It's a great city and it's one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Great weather (quite windy). Great and super fresh and very affordable seafood. The accommodation is rather expensive and the city is rather crowded as it's one of the most populated cities in the world per square km. We loved it.

We retired in Spain (Barcelona) and will be moving to Cadiz in the fall, What a life we have here. It is wonderful to know that one can retire and not worry about money or medical care during one's retirement. But I believe most Americans cannot make it here, with the culture and glutton for everything large being the biggest obstacle.

Great chat! My wife and I are 75% sure we’ll move elsewhere for retirement, and Spain and Portugal share the top spot right now. It was great hearing Carole’s experience in Cádiz.

I loved this video-going to Seville to study with my Flamenco teachers in November. I have always wanted to see Cadiz too. I am self employed as a psychotherapist and get taxed heavily in the USA. As a digital nomad, I would probably be taxed by both countries. What are your thoughts on this?
@adventurefreaksss7 ай бұрын
You would have to file taxes but one will off set the other due to a dual taxation treaty between the US and Spain. Love Flamenco!!

That 400 euro per month rent is probably a room in a shared apartment, or a small shabby apartment in the worst part of town- not what most people are looking for when they move.

You must be a Brit. Start at 1,000 a month.

Great interview! My wife and I used to live in Sonoma, CA, so we are very familiar with Napa, CA (a the high cost of real estate, lol). The pension income requirement for a lot of the retirement visas can be difficult for many Americans because unlike the rest of the world, we are expected to fund the bulk of our retirement through savings rather than guaranteed government or company pensions. For us, SS income is supposed to be the bare bones sustenance level income and therefore isn’t very high. I wish more countries would take total assets into account in addition to guaranteed pension income when establishing criteria for retirement visas.
@adventurefreaksss9 ай бұрын
Thank you for viewing and this information! What countries have you been looking at as possibilities to retire to?
@caroleloomis14309 ай бұрын
They will take other assets into account. I am not taking SS yet so I am showing savings. I have not provided my IRA however and will do so when I am at year 4 and 5 renewal most likely. SS is great since it it guaranteed, almost better than a paycheck.

We have a long list, mainly because we haven’t yet started any serious work of narrowing down the list. But it includes Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Spain. France, Italy, Greece, South Africa, etc, etc, LOL. We have another 5 years or so before we’ll be able to retire. And we’ll probably travel for 2-3 years after we retire before settling down in one place. There’s so much world to see!
@adventurefreaksss9 ай бұрын
That's a great list! Love the options.@@Calipeixegato

Your income will be taxed in both Spain and the US. You'll need to work with a CPA that can help you take advantage of the dual taxation treaty!

Please do your research. The non lucrative visa is not limited to monthly passive income. If you can demonstrate you have 1 year income in savings that works. The kicker is after one year you have to demonstrate 2 years of income because the renewal is 2 years. Tons of good info out there. So if you have savings and just social security its not impossible.

If your say 7 yrs off receiving a pension does money put in a Spanish bank help acquire a visa 😊
@caroleloomis14309 ай бұрын
See my response above. Savings definitely counts and it doesn't have to be in a Spanish bank, but I am sure it helps. You must report any amounts over 10k (in a Spanish bank) so I am keeping my amounts low for now.

@adventurefreaksss3 ай бұрын
@@jstain68 i saw the same thing in the news. There is some pushback in many countries in areas where the cost of living has risen significantly for the locals due to an influx of outside investors.
@JR-yo1fuАй бұрын
That's restricted to Barcelona/Cataluña and sadly part of a specific political position at that region. In the rest of the country, people understand that Tourism is the 2nd industry of the country.
