The majority of negative comments against Peru are from chileans, ecuadorians or mexicans, I also moved to Peru, I am from Boston, I live in the Barranco district and I have never had problems, Lima is a city that has a lot to offer, the cost of Living is cheap and the health clinics offer personalized and effective care, and if Americans come to invest here in small businesses I assure you that your investment is guaranteed, I would recommend coming here to Lima-Peru, I personally like it here, very good video.

Not true. I was born in Lima and lived there for 29 years and it is one of the most polluted cities in the world. I used to suffer from horrible allergies. Crime is high. Trash is in the streets every night on the side blocks. Lots of poverty, corruption, and rude people especially when driving, supermarkets, etc. Food is great.

I am Peruvian American living in the USA for many years. I bought a property in Miraflores over a year ago . My maintenance fee in a building with security is 120 dollars ( includes water) . My electricity with internet is an average of 80 dollars. My property taxes is $550 dollars. My husband and I feel safe around the neighborhood. Restaurants could be expensive around the area an average of 20 dollars for a good restaurant. Traffic is bad but I have everything close Wong( supermarket), Hospital, Park and I am walking distance to the beach. My husband is American and he feels safe whenever we go back to our second home. Like any third world country there is crime, traffic, pollution, etc. Pros people are very nice , good cuisine, beautiful places to visit and the fact that we are only 5 hours fly to Miami for us is perfect . Our plan when we retire is to spent some time in Lima and the rest of the year in our house in USA. My advice for anybody that is planning to retire in Peru is to look for a safe area to live. Miraflores, Barranco, san Isidro, la Molina good areas to live. The rentals are no cheat but more affordable than here in the USA. Good luck everybody.

My country is an ideal place to live! I live and work in Lima and my 24 year-old son lives and works in Cuzco. In Lima, you can live on with an average income of 1,000 dollars in a modest way :) In a region like Cuzco, you can live on less, for sure. It all depends on where you want to live. You can find studios and mini departamentos as we call them in a safe area if you live alone. You may find a cheap place to live in Miraflores, but again it will depend on budget, lifestyle and patience to find it :)

A cheap place to live in Miraflores? A decent 2 bedroom apartament in Miraflores or Barranco averages 800 to 900 usd a month, building expenses and utilities (water, electricity & internet) around 200 usd, so that alone is over a thousand dollars. Add food and living expenses and easely monthly costs add up to 2k per month.

My wife and I went to Peru and loved it. We took a culinary tour in Lima and Trujillo and the food was Amazing. Restaurants in Lima rank in the top 50 world's best restaurants. In Colorado for fine dining for 2 you spend a bit over $100 (add parking, gas and tips to that) . In Lima fine dining in a beautiful restaurant with better service, much better food quality and bigger portions you will spend $40 or less including tips which are not mandatory but you are free to tip 5% max.

As a 55 year old Italian citizen living around the Pentagonito neighborhood in San Borja, Lima, my monthly rent is about 300 Euro for an older but nicer 1 bedroom 55sqm apartment including 1 indoor parking spot. The neighborhood is very safe, quiet, lovely and well kept, surrounded by lots of parks and green areas with several running trails and places for open air sports. I spend another 60 to 70 Euro/month in utilities (including propane gas), but during summer months this can run up to 100 Euro if it gets very warm and turn the AC on. I own a car that sets me back another 100 Euro per month on petrol, do go out to eat once or twice per week, and do my gorceries mostly at mid-to-upper end stores. My mobile phone bill is somewhere like 50 Euro/month. I do enjoy wine, and pay about 60 Euros per month for my gym membership. I like going out with friends a few times a month as well. All in all living here sets me back somewhere in the area of 1,500 to 1,800 Euro/month. Lima is well connected with several dayly non-stop flights to many major European and US cities. If you like living well, as opposed to merely surviving, Lima is not the cheapest city in Latin America but it sure does provide with a good quality of life, varied and tasty food, gorgeous ocean views, breathtaking summertime sunsets, sort of an LA-like feel, and mostly friendly people, all at a great price.

Peruvian people accommodated their life as the flow goes. Isn’t like here in USA that 1 a little thing and the people get crazy !! So that best way to have good life is like Latin American people do.

14:15 There is no regulation about animal cruelty in the food industry and is very easy to be vegan in Peru, you don't need to go to fancy restaurants and the food is definitely cheaper.

Half of the comments here are just speculation. Peru is a great country it’s relatively cheap but the weather is not the best in South America and Peruvians don’t speak slowly. I have being traveling yearly to Peru for the past 30 years. I’m planning to retire there. But the best weather is in Venezuela. It’s just impossible to leave there because of crime.

One bedroom apartment with a separate bedroom open plan kitchenette in a building without an elevator in miraflores nice roads is about 550/600 USD per month. Very nice clean building close to Parque Kennedy. Theres the arbitrios or local council taxes for police, public lighting and refuse collection. Depending on the district, renters need to pay that too. Menus are 12 / 16/ 18/ 20 soles menus depending on wjat you fancy and they are found in the local markets.
