Judging by his kitchen and printer nearby, you can tell he is not opulent and lives beneath his means. A noble attribute.

Great to see two of my favorite channels coming together for a co-lab. I'm retiring with Eric's wife this Friday. Excited and a little nervous for 2025 and beyond.

Don’t FIRE if you are going to have to live cheaply. FIRE to something. Make sure your portfolio continue growing during FIRE, the psychological factor will create more stress as if you were working or more. Nice video Thanks

Thanks for the comment. I believe they are both "fat" fire so they have flexibility. I think that is the only way I do it as well.

Good conversation Dave. Appreciate you having these gentlemen on. Personally my Wife and I have been retired since 2014. I was 56 and she was 49. 10 years later we are content with traveling 7-9 months a year while we spend the rest at home out West. We have a Motorcoach so we drive around the country and Monday- Friday spend time trading stocks while we are at any given location across America. There are days when you feel like you should be doing something more than just trading stocks when Parked in a RV park or a rest area. When that happens I just grab the fishing pole and head to the nearest stream or lake. After 42 years of working your mind still wants to run a corporation rather than a fishing pole but that passes as soon as that 5 pounder is on your line. Again great video. God Bless America

Sounds pretty cool Jim. I've watched many videos of people doing RV travel in retirement. My wife and I talk about it but not sure we would manage it well!

Thanks for holding a terrific interview! I found these guys to be quite informative, inspirational, and down to earth. I'm very fortunate to enjoy being "recreationally employed" with my options trading, which gives me FI several years before most people retire. I appreciate what FI allows me to do each day. Two factors I don't hear about that contribute to FI and apply in my case are staying single and having no children. Being single means I can control everything to stay on plan, with no wife suddenly creating a different plan. And kids are obviously expensive (around $500k on average) and a huge time commitment. Yes, money can be made, but time is lost forever. I must say I strongly disagree with their assessment of dividends. Creating a robust dividend portfolio with stable and, better yet, growing dividends for doing absolutely nothing is a fantastic strategy. Don't sacrifice a good method because of taxes.

Excellent collaboration and discussion. I've watched some of Jason and Eric's content and enjoy their conversational approach. Hope you do more like this. Something you didn't touch on, but would be interesting is what planning tools do they (and others) use? is it home grown spreadsheets, DIY subscription tools, Professional FA/CFP tools etc? I think you and Rob Berger would be a really interesting collab.

Job-based stress can be a big deal. I got laid off and decided not to look for another job. Within a couple weeks, I realized I was feeling a lot better - both mentally and physically. It has felt so freeing not to have to worry about my job, anymore.

My wife and I are about to retire in May, 2025. I'm very confident we are more than ready, financially but there is still a mental aspect about it. The part of no turning back is a good point. I'm highly compensated and although, I could find a job such as teaching with no issues, it would probably pay less than 1/3 of what I get now. My current position is one that is highly competitive so I could not just 'slide back' into a similar position. I already feel like I'm getting pushed out due to my age.

Sounds like you have flexibility to choose what to do next which is great. If it happens to compensate you, it is an additional perk. My wife works at the library which does not pay well but we can afford to do it now.. and she loves it.

I recently retired aswell on my portfolio, im done with working and missing out on so much, life!!! I started thinking about it mid 20s... then had a plan to build a dividend portfolio that will support my life... im now 35 and totally live off the portfolio , i dont have high expenses so its easy for me to live off less and travel awhile

We recently sold our business and are living off the portfolio currently. Not sure I would call it retirement though. Unsure of what direction we will go. Both 36 years old and have the freedom of time now. Good video though, seeing other people’s perspectives is helpful

i went to part time work two years ago. going to quit completely in 2025. this gradual transition turned out to be a wise choice for me. a few times in my life i took time off (a year here, a year there) from an occupation to do other things. i also believe this was a good decision, albeit scary at times. i spent savings to get through these periods, savings i sometimes wish i still had. but it has all worked out. now i am old and ready for the last stage of my life. i am not wealthy, but i am content. if i had worked more diligently throughout my life i could have been a millionaire long ago. but i look at it like this: i retired early, but intermittently. i took some retirement years here and there in my younger days. this necessitated having to work until a later age. but it has all worked out. i have a modest portfolio and a modest lifestyle. i am not wealthy, but i am content. sometimes retirement doesn't take a million bucks, but it does take guts.
