Retired Engineer Tours Illinois Central 4-8-2 2500

Join retired engineer Frank Baumgartner for a tour of preserved Illinois Central Railroad 4-8-2 Mountain type number 2500 on display at Centralia, Illinois. Mr. Baumgartner was hired by the railroad in the fifties, and worked as a hostler, fireman and engineer during the last years of steam on the IC, and his tour of the locomotive gives a glimpse of what was involved in running these engines.
This video was shot in 1993, and Frank passed away in 2005 at age 74.
