In all the years I have lived in South East Asia, I never once saw Turkey meat for sale. Either as street food or in a restaurant. But there are loads of people who keep Turkeys in Thailand. Never added up to me.
@SirCandleDickКүн бұрын
its too expensive, why eat turky if there is black chicken is more yum and half the price or what, simple economics and taste
@PhilipMR223Күн бұрын
20myears ago our neighbours had a few turkeys mixed in with their chooks. Da told me turkeys cost more to feed and were not as easy to sell and produce far less eggs, only one or two eggs per week and for the consumer chickens are much cheaper to buy per kilo.
Tony seems a top bloke. Possibly the most Australian Aussie in the world, very laid back and straight talking 👍😁😎

Has anyone ever seen turkey meat for sale anywhere in SEA? If it isn't holiday season it's hard to find turkey even in North America. I have to say, Tony did a great job on building this farm. The buyer can always bring in chickens opposed to turkeys. Personally, I love turkey meat.

I'm a solo traveller and do enjoy my own solitude but you'll go crazy without doing some socialising from time to time. The isolation can get too much sometimes especially in Thailand if you're in a place where they don't speak much English.

I put Deepseek to work on this one. At 15m baht ($450k usd) you’d need to be selling about 1500 turkeys a year to hit a 10% roi. Doable I guess. Apparently you’d need to start with 4 Toms (males) and 32 hens to breed 1500 turkeys from scratch, and at least 2 rai for that many turkeys. At 3.5 rai he’s probably got a little room for expansion up to about 2000+ turkeys a year, which would give you more like a 13% roi. The secret sauce is probably what he’s feeding them. Apparently turkeys will each pretty much anything and need at least 21% protein to put on mass. Lot of street dogs knocking around in Thailand….
@sgraham005Күн бұрын

Wow, you cannot get more Aussie bloke. Blue tank top, beer gut, shortened nickname, vastly understated success. 🦘 🙏 In Australia you can meet an unassuming guy like Tony at the end of a dusty old bar in the middle of nowhere town, only to find out he owns/runs a 40 million dollar station (ranch) with a fleet of vehicles, helicopters, trucks, etc. Don't be mistaken by the short interaction; these guys are smart

Another example of an Australian ex builder/mine worker trying to make it big. Easy step, sell the turkeys to Manston foods/ Siambur/ or hotel chains in tourist areas, if the product is good, also get the product out to the expats/expats (facebook youtube etc) as that way no need to pay imported prices. It kinda of says, I want to sell up as failed in the business.

The same in my area of Thailand, some very nice coffee shops where I can go and sit for a hour and never see another customer. Just like you, I wonder how they are able to keep operating. As for the turkeys. In my village no one can eat them, it makes them itch. I often wondered if that why I rarely see them sold (CJ does have some frozen). I also wondered about the heat during the hot season in all those metal buildings.

Tony works that area by himself. Looking fantastic, but it must be busy when it comes time to sell his product.
