Great story Mike. I also took the vaccine so I could travel to Philippines.You gotta do whats necessary right. I also walked the same beach in Panglao and used to get a coffee at the belview from the beach entrance. I agree that if you had a scooter when you were there it would have been a better experience. I lived in Dauis and travelled all over on a hired scooter, it was a great time. I also found food a bit pricey in Bohol compared to Duma and Davao.

So $ notwithstanding ( we have to figure out a budget) we have the advantage of having lots of her relatives and I have been there 5 x so far. The relatives are not that rich but they all help each other and would help us with knowledge and hands on help We may even set up a business… we are both Canadian but all the relatives are able to help ….

Same for any meds and my dental work. I will see if I can travel with this new " BAD LUCK" sickness I've acquired recently. Hopefully, I can fly to the Philippines, even with AFIB symptoms. Mike, while you may have told your 'starting out' story a couple times prior I think this rendition is by far the best and most comprehensive. You did a nice job of focusing in on the logistical, emotional, and physical aspects facing new comers. Along with the de-stressing you did in your first month you also allowed yourself a more controlled pace for acclimating to a new culture. How nice of the on-line Filipina friends you had made, that they would go out of their way to greet you and help you 'set foot' as Mary would say. The Filipino people are truly wonderful and so are you and Janet. Stay healthy. Salamat po. Peace and Love, B Goat

The annoying things about the Philippines were no free WiFi at places like Starbucks or McDonald’s, paper straws and wooden eating utensils.
@Billy_B_Goat7 ай бұрын
@@ohioafguy I really had zero issues with that stuff. I found most coffee shops do have free wifi and the other stuff is like you said, just a little annoying. The Big stuff for me was the poverty, pollution, noise, and malnourished animals everywhere. That still tugs at me. At the medium level is the "out of stock" or just can't get items, well and how expensive electronics can be.

@@Billy_B_Goat you are right about the stray animals. The poverty is very visible. You found free shelter WiFi available in McDonald’s and other coffee shops?
