I don't have a budget, I just pay the bills as they come with auto pay from the bank. I do know that your bills are super cheap to what I pay. I usually pay about $200 for water, and the electric here is about $300 a month, I own the house but pay in property taxes and home insurance for about what your paying for rent. Lucky I have the income and savings to stay here in the USA, but those of more limited means could live better for less in the Philippines, I can see that.

I am single and live on less than 2K a month here in the great American corn belt. I have rent, car payment , etc, etc. It is not necessary to relocate to SE Asia when you have this in your backyard. I am going to snow bird in Philippines and this will come from savings but everyday expenses ( including some entertainment ) can be managed in the USA form a Social Security check if you avoid the coastal states and mega cities. My city is a major one but hardly Chicago.

@@andgrayit is difficult to go from a high standard of living to a lower standard of living. One gets used to the comforts and one notices them when you don't have them as it can make one depressed. We are used to having hot water 24hours a day, central air, modern facilities, everything being clean and almost new etc..... And when you get old all those things are things we can't do without. It is difficult to live in a neighborhood where everything looks decrepit with thousands of wires hanging everywhere, different colors on buildings that are unpleasant to the eye, it all looks old and dirty. It is depressing as you feel you worked hard and this is what your life has boiled down to. It is not a great feeling. We don't have many years to live and we want to have the creature comforts and have a pleasant life the few years we have left. It is fine for a young person.

I think Asian women are beautiful. I’ve been with a few of them. They’re good company. However, as a non-Asian white European, I much rather prefer being with a woman that shares my same race, culture and heritage. It just makes life a lot easier overall. I say to each their own. I’ve been to China and Japan in Asia. The PH is a nice place. 👍🏻

We're calculating our budget, again. But not relying on the high exchange rate. We always calculate at 55P=1USD, and at this time should have excess for the bank, and extras. We'll be moving in July, from our condo in Metro, at P23.5K, to a new duplex at P33.6/month, in Angeles City. Tentatively. We've been budgeting P35K for groceries, and that includes occasional outside meals. We've done okay with that, even considering my western food preferences. Hello, I was wondering if nice rural homes are hard to find? I like privacy and the dogs in Mexico drove me nuts! I’ve spent a little time in Mexico and would like to check other countries out. Thanks

@@mikesphilippineretirement Wow! Congratulations. I am impressed. You are 70 and have a wife and teenage boy, yet you spend nothing on medicine or vitamins. I was like that until age 60 and then things changed. I am a cancer survivor so maybe that makes a difference.

hi mike and janet, great description about your budget. you said u saved $284 for self insured for savings. does this means your budget is based on your income or is this just a budget u try to follow. if your income is greater than your budget of $2105 per month that means you are saving more than the $284. plus anything above $2105 income that u have per month.thanks for sharing

Thanks Mike for your budget breakdown, these are always helpful! One question out of curiosity. You upgraded your apartment from 23k to 35k, so now due to the increase in rent made you have to cut back. Cut backs such as not getting coffee, not eating out as you once had, going out around town. Is it worth the cutbacks to have the new place?

The place we had the rent was going up to 35k. We cut back spending out for coffee...not the coffee but the extras as a breakfast, sandwich bagel ect.

@@mikesphilippineretirement Wow I was not aware the previous place the owner was raising the rent from 23k to 35k. 😲 That is a huge increase!!! I worded my coffee statement wrong. Not getting coffee everyday, and Janet not ordering her drink.

Mike, I’m retired and I’d love living there or Thailand , although idk if I’d ever get the nerve to do it lol. I watch a lot of your videos these days, so I’m at least considering it. I have a lot of medical issues so I’d have to look closely at comprehensive medical care. Also, did you say Janet has a KZbin ? Do you have a link? I’d be interested in seeing what she has to say from the perspective of a Filipino
