The first video of many describing life in the Philippines with John and Angie! This channel is for you if you are living in Cebu Philippines, retiring in the Philippines or moving to the Philippines. Experience life in the Philippines with this PhilAm couple. Retiring in the Philippines is an attractive option for many expatriates due to the country's affordable cost of living, warm climate, and friendly culture. Here are some key aspects to consider:
Cost of Living
- **Affordable Lifestyle**: The cost of living in the Philippines is significantly lower compared to Western countries. Housing, groceries, and services are more affordable, allowing retirees to maintain a comfortable lifestyle on a modest budget【54†source】.
- **Real Estate**: Property prices are relatively low. Many retirees choose to buy or rent houses, apartments, or condos, especially in popular areas like Cebu, Davao, and parts of Luzon.
Climate
- **Tropical Weather**: The Philippines enjoys a tropical climate with warm temperatures year-round. This is particularly appealing to retirees looking to escape colder climates. The country has a wet season (June to November) and a dry season (December to May).
Healthcare
- **Accessible Healthcare**: The Philippines offers quality healthcare services, especially in major cities. Private hospitals and clinics are well-equipped and staffed by qualified professionals. Many retirees also take advantage of medical tourism for affordable treatments and procedures【54†source】.
- **PhilHealth**: Expats can enroll in PhilHealth, the national health insurance program, which helps cover medical costs.
Social Environment
- **Friendly Locals**: Filipinos are known for their hospitality and friendliness, making it easy for retirees to integrate into the community. English is widely spoken, facilitating communication.
- **Expat Communities**: There are well-established expat communities in various parts of the country, providing social support and opportunities to meet fellow retirees.
Activities and Leisure
- **Diverse Activities**: The Philippines offers a wide range of activities, from beach and water sports to hiking and cultural tours. Retirees can enjoy exploring the numerous islands, diving spots, and historical sites.
- **Volunteer Opportunities**: Many retirees engage in volunteer work, contributing to local communities and enjoying a sense of purpose.
Visa and Residency
- **Retirement Visa**: The Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA) offers the Special Resident Retiree’s Visa (SRRV), which provides various benefits such as multiple-entry privileges and exemption from customs duties on household goods. Requirements include a minimum age of 50 and a certain deposit amount in a Philippine bank【54†source】.
Financial Considerations
- **Banking and Currency**: The local currency is the Philippine Peso (PHP). There are numerous local and international banks operating in the country, offering various financial services to expatriates.
- **Pension Transfers**: Retirees can easily transfer their pensions from their home countries to local bank accounts.
Safety and Security
- **Safety**: While the Philippines is generally safe, it’s important to stay informed about the security situation, especially in certain areas. Major cities and popular expat destinations typically have a low crime rate.
- **Natural Disasters**: The country is prone to natural disasters such as typhoons and earthquakes, so it's important to choose a location with this in mind and have appropriate insurance.
Conclusion
Retiring in the Philippines offers an affordable and enjoyable lifestyle with plenty of activities, good healthcare, and a welcoming community. Proper planning and understanding of the local environment are key to a smooth transition and a fulfilling retirement experience.

Good video. You both seem like decent, fun people. 🙂 You mentioned the age gap, but didn't say what it is in your case. Maybe you share that in another video. I just found your channel. From what you said, I take it that Angie is in her 20s. I am not primarily looking for someone under 30, but I'm open to considering it if she is mature. Angie seems very mature (but still fun). And I know another KZbinr who was looking for "older" Filipinas, but married a woman who was just twenty-ONE. They have worked out just fine. So, I'm trying to be open minded... 😄 Subscribed. 👍 I look forward to checking out your other videos.

Hey John, nice video. I need a bit of advice: I landed in Cebu the 4th of June, staid 2 weeks and now I moved to Davao. I tried all the dating sites you mentioned, but I'm struggling to find a decent woman; mostly are gold diggers and not interested in a relationship at all. Some friends suggested to close the dating accounts and go hunting for connections in the field, What do you think?

The dating apps are convenient. The 1st thing is, are you planning to live in th Philippines or meet a woman and then bring her to you? If you plan on coming here full time, I suggest resisting meeting anyone before actually getting here. Women will treat you differently if they know you are not just here for a holiday. If you are not going to live in the Philippines, then a dating app such as Christian Filipina is what i would do. ( i have not teied them but did talk with a consultant there) they are a full service company, not just an app. It will cost but still cheaper if you waste money to dly and meet the wrong Filipina. I WAS IN THE PHILIPPINES, MANY BEAUTIFUL WOMEN BUT I DID NOT TOUCH THEM THESE TOURIST PEOPLE ALWAYS FINDING SEXUALITY,, IS NOT WOMEN IN PHILIPPINES TO FIND THEIR PARTNERS BUT TOURIST ARE ALWAYS FINDING THEIR MATES TO LIVE IN. YOU PILIPINA YOU MUST CONTINUE TO RESIDE WITH YOUR FOREIGN HUSBAND NOT FOR TAKING GRANTED ONLY. BUT FOREVER.. BE CAREFUL WITH FOREIGNERS YOU DON'T KNOW THEM YET OTHERWISE YOU WILL BE REGRETED.
