Retirement Kalitta Charters 727 take off, YIP

Kalitta Charters II Boeing 727-200 N726CK departing from Willow Run, YIP 12-21-23. Flt KII726.
This flight was the retirement of N726CK, the 43 year old Boeing 727-200 serial no 21951 which was built in 1980, as it departed to be stored at Kalitta's maintenance/ storage base in Oscoda. This leaves only 1 active 727 in the Kalitta Charter II fleet (N729CK), which is also living on borrowed time.

I really appreciate your capturing this plane on modern vid. So many videos are blurry due to the age and type of platform used such as 8MM or video. At least now we'll have something very good quality to see. Nice capture.

The 727 is my favorite, sad to see them go. I managed to catch a glimpse of it while driving past the airport in Tulsa this week! My dad works at UPS, and he told me that every time it pulls up next to the UPS dock, it leaks hydraulic fluid everywhere, and that it shouldn't be flying anymore. It's probably best to retire it gracefully, rather than keep going until it retires itself!

I live where they turn from base to final when 5 is in use. You can always tell when there is a DC9, MD80 or 727 landing

@@MTAviationPhotoFilm 727s apparently used to fly to my home airport back in the 90s I think but IND stole them from us. Nowadays we sometimes get 737s if we’re lucky

I have heard its retired, it was an A check, its coming back, it will be retired by the end of the month. Not really sure what they are doing with it at this point but either way its days are numbered
