Health care insurance is dramatically cheaper in many other countries than in the US. If you are working simply to maintain your insurance, there are lots of options.

Very good overview. For Withdrawal Strategies, a 72t is another option. This strategy is more stringent, but you can Rollover just the amount you need to disburse over those year's to a separate IRA account for the 72t.

Great point! Yes, 72t is an option too. It is not my favorite due to the 5 year requirement, but may be better than pulling the principal dollars from a Roth.

I actually could retire with my full pension at 52, but the cost of healthcare has been one of the biggest things I worry about eating into a decent pension. Also, working just another 1.5 years now I can hit my 30 year mark in education and that gets another small multiplier bump, so that is always helpful too. And then, I still like having the money coming in that comes with being around so long and towards the top of my field nationally there, so I still enjoy what I do and get paid well enough to do it. However, getting older I also see more and more these friends and colleagues working to that 62/65/70 mark, and not having the quality of life because of age, or even dying a fairly short time after. I am just looking for the jumping off point to balance all that. And I have essentially paid everything off and we can easily live on the pension alone, so all the other ROTH, Rollover, and investments don't even need to be touched unless we want too. It's been a long slow growth method, but it works.

are there strategies to keeping your income low on paper to reduce the ACA insurance? I live in a state that rejected setting up an exchange so ACA is only option.
