We just got back from travelling throughout Portugal, Spain and Morocco. I agree with previous comments, Covid is here to stay and we must keep on living. My husband and I have all of our vaccinations, and we’re so happy to get out and travel. We are from Ontario as well, and for two years stayed close to home. We have to make the most of our time. Life goes by so quickly. We are already planning our next travels. Once you start to travel again, you get the travel bug, and it makes you want to get out and experience even more! Enjoy!

Mo-Beel. Doffin Island. It's a gulf, not an ocean. Now that the vocabulary lesson is over. I lived in Alabama for 50 years and never visited the places you mentioned. I've been to Mobile many times but never to Ft Morgan. There's a reason that people snowbird along the Gulf Coast us the moderate weather. Destin and Panama City Beach are big Canadian snowbird spots. When we owned our PCB condo we rented it from Jan 1st through April every year to a couple from Canada. Indian food is not a traditional beach food. Don't worry about eating the shrimp. Too bad the Apalachicola oysters aren't available. They shut the fishery down a couple of years ago to let it recover from over-harvests. Glad you guys are enjoying my home state. Stop in Huntsville on your way home and visit the NASA facilities.

I share your concerns about air travel because it has changed a lot in the last 3 years. It seems to me that I've lost my know-how about international travel, especially when the trip implies 2-3 connecting flights. One needs to steel their nerves when going through airports and flying as airports have large crowds, long lines, and crazy people to deal with on top of airline issues. It feels overwhelming, however, things will continue to be pretty shaky for a while so I may have to bite the bullet and go see my toddler granddaughter before she goes to college😂 Thank you for your encouragement to go out there and the inspiration to be brave enough. We winter in Mexico for 5 months where we have a place but, except for 2020 and 2021, we also spend a month travelling somewhere else. I am conscious of the sand slipping through the hourglass of time and feel that due to the pandemic we've lost time that we will never get back. Most often we travel somewhere in Europe, though in 2019, and just a couple of months pre-pandemic, we spent 5 weeks in Australia/New Zealand. After our trip to Egypt in the fall of 2023 we are going to be exploring North America more, which is less strenuous than overseas travel (a consideration as we age into our 70s) and there is so much to see on this continent. Enjoy life while you can, you never know what is around the corner.

@@tanyajohnston8262 Where we are we feel quite safe and don't have concerns in that respect. I would say it's like anywhere, if you go looking for trouble you'll find it. Really, it comes down to common sense. Don't go walking down dark empty streets late at night and don't be out a 2am trying to score drugs (or hang out with people that do) that's just asking for trouble. I am sure they won't do that but when you hear in the international news about some shooting or something that's usually what's been going on behind the headlines. In general I find the Mexican people to be warm, welcoming, hardworking and honest. For some perspective I saw in the news this morning that six people were shot dead on Tuesday inside a Walmart in Chesapeake, Virginia. Would you feel nervous about them spending a month there?

If you ever get the chance to circle the great lakes in warmer weather one year , there is a very long cement pier/breakwater at Ludington, MI (it's about 1 mile total out n back) and Frankfort, MI (although Frankfort's pier is quite narrow, it's almost like walking a wide plank) leading to their lighthouses. Completely different scenery depending on the lake you are circling. L Superior, is different from Lake MI , and different from Huron , Ontario , and Erie. Late summer after the kids get back into school and early Fall pre peak color season is probably the easiest time to travel. (although after labor day 1/2 of the seasonal shops tend to close for the year, so some of your restaurant choices would be limited in the off season..).

Greetings Norm and Tina. I am glad you are having a great time... I never did worry about covid . I got it in May either in Portugal, Miami and Ohio. I am older than you guys and I take quimo pills. I guess I got it because my immune system was down due to the extensive travels. The little pesky bug stayed with 3 to 4 days. The strangest thing is that the areas around my hips hurt really bad. I found that unusual. I did not loose my appetite and taste. Be well my dear KZbin friends. Tchau.

I'm looking to go to Alabama In the Mid Fall before the cold comes in. My daughter lives in Mississippi so she could visit us instead of the other way around. Have you ever looked into Puerto Rico? Many people winter there and accommodations can be very reasonable by the month if you do some research. Airfare is also very reasonable, you can also fly into Aguadilla on the opposite side from San Juan. I just tested positive today with Covid, my guess is I caught it at a Jazz show in NYC. First time I've been back into NYC since Covid hit. My son was playing so I'm not missing that. It was worth it

Did you know that there's a legend that persists about a 12th century Prince Madoc of Wales who was the actual person who discovered America? Legend has it he sailed into the bay of Mobile Alabama. His crew supposedly intermarried with the Mandan Indians in the area who spoke a language very similar to Welsh. Even President Thomas Jefferson believed this and when he sent Lewis and Clark to explore the western US in 1804, he told them to keep an eye out for the Mandan Indians who often traded along the Mississippi River. There is even a plaque where they landed in Mobile Bay that states this as if it were fact. Crazy!

The Irish also take claim to that myth. The mongolians discovered North America 12 thousand years ago during the ice age. There were 60 million living here as the Native Americans before Spain, France, Britain, Portugal and the Dutch did 90% of them in. The Vikings were also in North America over a thousand years ago.
@327hks2 жыл бұрын
@@americathebeautifulforever9746 Yes. I heard or read somewhere recently that the Asians actually did not arrive here first via the Bering Strait land bridge as once believed, but by boat. And yes, I know the myth has many variations, but had always found it fascinating that an American president seem to thoroughly believe it. And yes again, the Vikings were the first Europeans.

Awesome video. I envy your retirement life. Do you a budget for traveling? Does cost limit where you travel to in the winter months? I'm assuming America is a good choice for multiple reasons but can be expensive. So, as you have stated your love for Portugal being beautiful, warm and welcoming but more over its cost effective. Obviously during the summer months in Canada, you both can be frugal and live within a budget thus allowing you to have extra funds for the winter travel season. Thank you for your channel.
@ThisIsOurRetirement2 жыл бұрын
Covid has had an impact on us for travel, prior to it we had set $25K per year for travel. We didn’t travel much in North America, we wanted to visit places that were “exotic” to us. Portugal just suited us for many reasons but mainly to use up two winter months cost effectively.
