You two have hit it on the head. Very informative and helpful. The biggest hurdle for most men is NOT to react to some problem their wife is talking about. The wife just wants to talk about it and does not really need the mans help to fix the problem. Men are geared to solve problems and never talk about them.

That is so amazing, I’m trying to get onto the housing ladder at 40. I wish at 55 I will be testifying to similar success..

A elderly man was asked his secret on how he maintained his 60 years of marriage. His answer was ........ "" NEVER ask your wife what's for supper while she is mowing the lawn "".

Love this video and many of your many other videos. Like your history, we are "in the process" of physical moving 11 hour drive away via buying a new house (using bridge mortgage), self truck/trailer move, then sell our exisiting house (of 36 years). Your lessons learned about Effective Communications, synchronized lifestyle changes, retirement lifestyle changfes, having new together time and alone time is "right on". Thank you for sharing your retirement lessons learned.

I am 12 years older than husband so when I retire at 65 in September he will still only be 53!

The reason divorce rates (below retirement age) are down is because fewer young couples are getting married. It's a whole new world for that statistic.

Yes the statistics are evolving with the times. It still takes work to keep the relationship relevant.

After you've talked for 30 years what else is there to talk about. LOL - unless you have lots of kids and grandkids and you can talk about that until you're blue in the face.

I've heard from older coworkers that there should at least 6-12 months between each spouse retiring. Let one adjust first before the second one does.

Married 37 yrs now. ❤ My wife retired at 62. Im still working from home. Fast forward to now we're both almost 65. Past 3 yrs have been VERY stressful for me as i pay 97% of the bills. I wanted to at least work till 65, but - she wanted to be like 4 sisters and retire at 62. My struggle is im working while she's out having all this fun lol. I can't wait to retire .... basically to spend quality time with her. Very stressful. Everybody's different i guess .... some guys would love this scenario with your wife not home during the day, but dam .... here i am, still here designing stuff on the computer working from home. Any ideas??? Yeah, my wife doesn't want to talk ... I'm screwed ...

Well I think sitting down and having some thoughtful discussions may help. No distractions like TV or phone. Agree not to interrupt, and really listen to each other. Begin to have discussion on what you both see retirement looking like. Take some notes. Limit the chat so it has a beginning and and ending. Then pick it up again in a few days. Keep at it and see how to find common ground. Was this helpful?

Lots of people divorce when they retire. I've seen it many times. Spending too much time is usually not the best situation unless you're Suzanne Somers. She can't get enough of Alan 😅. It's natural to get on each other's nerves. The fact of the matter is that most people can't afford to get divorced. If they do they'll be living in poverty unless one dumps the other one for someone rich

I had to laugh a little at this. My husband is a firefighter. He is gone at least two nights a week and I love that. We've been together 30 years. He retires in two days. Me not getting a couple nights alone once a week, sleeping in silence, is the one thing I'm so worried about. He thinks I'm joking when I say it'll be great, as long as he sleeps downstairs a couple nights a week. 😉
