This video is about the best travel credit card for 2024 and an amazing credit card point hack that saves us thousands of dollars per year. We believe the Chase Sapphire Reserve is the best travel credit card for frequent travelers, especially when combined with World of Hyatt, for several reasons:
1. Generous rewards program: The Chase Sapphire Reserve offers lucrative rewards on travel and dining. Cardholders earn 3 points per dollar spent on travel and dining worldwide and 1 point per dollar on all other purchases. Points can be redeemed for travel, gift cards, cash back, or transferred to airline and hotel loyalty programs at a 1:1 ratio.
2. Valuable sign-up bonus: Chase often provides a substantial sign-up bonus for new cardholders. This bonus is currently 60,000 points, which can be worth hundreds or even thousands of dollars when redeemed for travel.
3. Travel benefits: The card comes with a range of travel benefits that enhance the overall travel experience. These include a $300 annual travel credit, which can be used to offset any travel-related expenses, such as flights, hotels, rental cars, and more. Additionally, cardholders have access to airport lounges through the Priority Pass Select program, which provides a comfortable and relaxing environment during layovers. Other perks include trip cancellation/interruption insurance, travel and emergency assistance, and primary rental car insurance.
4. Flexible redemption options: The Chase Ultimate Rewards program allows cardholders to redeem points in various ways. You can book travel directly through the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal, transfer points to partner airline and hotel loyalty programs, or redeem them for cash back or gift cards.
5. Travel insurance coverage: The Chase Sapphire Reserve provides comprehensive travel insurance coverage, including trip cancellation/interruption insurance, baggage delay insurance, trip delay reimbursement, and emergency medical/dental coverage. These benefits can provide peace of mind during your travels.
6. No foreign transaction fees: The card does not charge any foreign transaction fees, making it an excellent choice for international travelers. You can use it abroad without incurring additional charges.

We hope you find this video helpful and can save you a bunch on your travel costs. Here is a link to the credit card and a blog post on exactly how to transfer points from Chase to Hyatt. One correction to note: A viewer correctly pointed out that you do not receive a 2nd global entry/TSA benefit with the companion card. You get many of the benefits, but not global entry. You mentioned that you haven’t had need to use some of this card’s insurance. The primary car rental insurance covered for me a single car accident in Portugal and a stolen car off a Main Street in broad daylight in San Fran, without me having to use my own car insurance at all. I also used the card’s trip delay insurance for a night’s expenses for my family in Lisbon for a missed connection to Venice. I have traveled quite extensively and have found this card *always* works , even in remote places, when other cards get denied and I have to call the bank. “Pay yourself back” was a great benefit with limited travel during Covid restrictions, but less useful now. So, I’m a big fan of this great card and very much worth the fee.

Thanks for sharing. The issue for us is that since we don't have a car right now, we don't have liability insurance. We are looking at options because it is tough (and expensive) being in the US with no vehicle. You are right that this card has many great features. We took out a SW Chase card years ago when we went to Vegas often. The mileage added up so we often got at least one ticket free on our escapades. Still have it but don't travel much now. I noticed the point values since covid have really been diluted....but it was a great perc years ago. This is really great information!

I love your sharing so much information. Your wisdom and common sense are refreshing. Just want to mention one thing about Chase Reserve medical coverage. I realize from a previous video that isn't what you use for insurance so isn't something you'd have to bother with, but want to encourage folks to compare benefits closely. I've researched every annual travel insurance and compared Chase coverage on medical, hoping that would be enough and I'd avoid buying a seperate policy.. It definately is not. I was a cruise ship nurse and handled several medical evacuations and saw what people had to agree to pay.. I won't leave home now with less than $100K in hospital/medical and $500K evacuation coverage. Chase falls way short on those. I'd personally still use it for the other perks, just not depend on it for medical. Looking forward to your next video.

@@lisamclauchlan304 What worked best for me is an annual Blue Cross travel policy. It's Geo Blue Trekker's Choice, I was looking for at least $500,000 evacuation and high medical benefits. Blue Cross gave me the coverage I wanted for the best price..I've noticed several new companies advertising since I researched last Oct. The best thing is to determine what you want and compare the companies' benefits and cost side by side. I can't say any won't take care of claims as I haven't personally used any, but understanding what your benefits are is most important.

@@lisamclauchlan304 I think everyone should research and compare benefits to find what works for them based on their own needs. Haven’t had to use any personally so can’t say avoid any. For mine, I wanted an annual policy with 500k in evacuation and large medical for the best price. That ended up being Geo Blue Trekkers Choice from Blue Cross, but there are many out there and some new companies have popped up since I got mine last year

When I'm not traveling, I use my Chase Sapphire Reserve card to top off my local transit pass or get a rental car, both of which are reimbursed through the $300 travel credit. Recently I had a pebble fly up and crack the windshield on a rental car and the auto insurance covered the damage charge from the rental car company. All I had to do was file a claim and forward the pictures, and Chase paid it within a few days. The benefits of this card are well worth the hefty annual fee!

I love your videos! I’ve had the Chase Sapphire Reserve for several years. I’ve found that the Priority Pass lounges vary greatly in quality, especially poor in Honolulu, Chicago, and Paris. But the lounge in Istanbul is amazing. With the devaluation in airline miles I now use the points to pay for the annual fee at a 25% bonus. Also take cash back. 3% is very competitive with other cash back cards. I’ll have to explore the Hyatt option mentioned . My friend used the medical benefit while traveling in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Overall, a very useful credit card if you travel frequently.

For a frequent traveler, the CSR is an excellent card. I make all of our travel purchases (except hotels) on the CSR Any paid Hyatt purchases (rare) go on my Chase Hyatt card for 9x points (Globalist). You didn't mention it but cruise purchases on CSR are usually identified as travel, thus 3x points! Lyft rides get a discount, and are currently 10x points. However since we travel a lot, the lounge access more than pays for the card. And yes, no revolving credit!

Hi Guys. Amazing content as usual. After watching your video, I started doing some digging on the Chase Reserve Card and came upon an update that will go into effect on July 1, 2024. Chase Reserve card members with Priority Pass will no longer get the restaurant credits you reference in your video. Apparently, many cards have been eliminating this perk over the last few years and the gig is up for Reserve card members this summer. The other benefits you reference still make the card worth it, but wanted to pass that along.

What is your experience concerning getting into most business class lounges such as STAR/United, Delta or One World and also international lounges? Thanks in advance for letting us know details on your percentage of success getting in the lounges WITHOUT a business class ticket. How does the Priority Pass card work? Anything required to get/keep the Priority Pass card? Like you, I traveled often on business, and it is easy to get spoiled using the lounges. -I have a question: the video description says "3 points per dollar spent on travel", but the Chase website says 2x points on all other travel purchases. Did you sign up for the card when it had different rules for points?- Disregard: I was confused by Chase Sapphire *Reserve* and Chase Sapphire *Preferred* cards.

This is good stuff, thank you for the tips. My wife and I are about 5 years away from living your life! Any shot at a video as to how you find housing? Is staying out of cities and major tourist areas vital to keeping costs down? I just looked at Tuscany, hard to find much under $3,000/mo, many closer to double that. What are you tricks and secrets to see everywhere but survive higher housing costs? I do realize y'all move around more like weekly, but any tips help.

Thanks for the suggestion. Have you consider staying in Umbria. It is much cheaper than Tuscany. Also, check local Facebook groups for suggestions on places to stay. Happy journeys, John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/

@@RetirementTravelers Thank you so much for the reply! I am not going to Tuscany any time soon (although my wife is there now), I just wanted to get an idea of how you plan for lodging in that you can enjoy lovely accommodations without spending too much (nor too little, we want to ENJOY retirement). I saw that your 2023 costs came to...oh geez...I am forgetting...$85,000 or so (guessing this makes pre tax income 100-120k/yr)? I will keep my fingers crossed for a video on this sort of thing (the lodging, not your income). Perhaps the answer is staying outside the most popular areas, or enjoying a mix of high cost and low cost locations. Perhaps $3,000/mo for lodging is to be expected. I can not wait for the next video, keep living the dream! P.S. I LOVE that your son is a CPA and CFP; y'all lucked out on that!

If I already got the Chase Sapphire Reserve card, isn't it more cost efficient if my wife get the Preferred card since the annual fee is much cheaper, and she can get sign-up bonus (which she can't if she is the Reserve authorized user) and use many of my Reserve perks anyway? Thanks in advance.

You could put a referral link for the card in the video description and ask us to apply there. Am I missing it? We don’t do anything to get this. As we spend money on travel, we get a credit on our account and it is deducted from our balance. We left a note in our video description that we got the TSA credit wrong. It is only available to the main cardholder. Just wanted to point that out. John & Bev

Yes, you get 1 point per dollar on everything else besides what they mentioned in the video. I have 2 chase cards (one zero annual fee and the Sapphire reserve). I use these cards for almost everything even paying my bills as long they do not charge an extra fee for using a credit card, then it would not be worth it. the other card I have has some different categories that pay extra points and you can combine them all together.

How do you handle rental car liability insurance if you travel full time and don’t own a car, therefore no auto insurance?

Well, that's been a problem for us. We have a daughter that is a trial attorney and I don't think she would forgive her parents if we got into an accident without liability. So, since we rarely rent a car, we go ahead and buy the travel insurance at the rental company. We don't take unnecessary risks with health insurance or car insurance. Thanks for asking!
