Always interesting to see what kind of gear people use for their KZbin vids. Any reason you go for longer lenses for your talking head shots? With a 35mm or a nifty 50, your cameras are probably pretty far away. I shoot on a micro four thirds 14mm (so 28mm in full frame terms), which is wide enough I can be close enough to the camera to manually focus and then I turn off auto focus so I don't get any of that focus hunting. But then again, auto-focus on Panasonic kinda sucked until recently (and I don't have a recent camera).

The nifty 50 I usually just used for amateur photography here and there. I definitely had to be too far away from it to use in my talking head vids. I got it because I really liked the way it looked isolating subjects from backgrounds, which sounded ideal for green screen softening up the wall behind me for keying, but the reality never really fleshed out much. The Canon kit lens is 18-55mm and I usually just have it mounted to an arm on the back of my desk, which is why I usually went with that 99 times out of 100. The new Sony kit lens is 16-50 wide angle, so I wind up getting a lot more of the shot from the same position. That'll be nice for giving myself options in any given physical space.
