Disney’s canon has been…controversial. But my favorite new canon lore is this idea of Sith “bleeding” their crystals over the Legends explanation that their crystals were synthetic. It seems much more “Sith-y” to bleed a crystal in this way.

Yeah I think the bleeding is cool! I like the idea that they literally torture the kyber until it turns red

It's also canon that Luke had to use a similar Sith method to create the Khyber crystal for his green lightsaber between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. The reason for this is because the Empire mined out all the Khyber crystals on Ilum to build the Death Star's Superlaser.

@ I don’t believe that’s canon anymore. I think they’ve since shown Luke claiming his own crystal at a lost Jedi Temple. Can’t site the specific source, though.

@magicaltour1 I think I read about Luke brewing his own Khyber crystal in the Shadows of the Empire novel. It makes more sense, since Palpatine didn't want any future Force-Sensitive kids getting their hands on any crystals for Jedi lightsabers.

@ The new canon has changed this. Now, Luke traveled to Christophus and bonded with a crystal he found there. The crystal was originally colorless, but Luke touched it with the Force, and communed with Yoda (though Luke thought he was imagining him, he really was talking with Yoda!). I wish there was a video for Vader's actual purpose, in the Emperor's eyes, amd plans. Sidious grumbles when Vader obsesses over hunti g O66 survivors, or mopes about what hes lost, but then he belittles him, or makes othet crass remarks. He likes having Vader undet his thumb more than at his disposal. I know better now, but i always assumed that the UNSC, from Halo, lucked out that they had Spartans, when the Covenant attacked, but had basically made them to set loose on protesters; their own civilians, and that's kind of what Vader is; he's overkill. The Empire doesn't have rivals, and even the Rebellion is pitifully ineffective for a long time. Initially, they were even useful enough for Palpatine that he probably wanted to keep them around. His institutions are designed to be at least somewhat ineffective; weak, and keeping each other weak enough that they can't overthrow him. He doesn't want Vader killing his men, but he also doesn't want Vader "improving" things, and then using them to rise up in revolt. Vader cant dyad with him, while that's a thing, and isn't interested in sorcery, nor does Sidious want a real rival. Vader's never going to heal, and is literally on life support. He's awesome, but entirely unnecessary, and the Emperor could use elite Stormtroopers to do most things he might send Vader for, sp hes just a trophy, yet Sidious complains. What does he want?
