Retold Tale Is Legit One Of The Best PvP Shotguns In Destiny 2

I was very impressed with Retold tale. I use a good amount of shotguns and usually fall back to high range lightweights as far as legendary. Retold Tale has special perks that you want to look for. It has the combinations to be complete. Depends on who you ask, but I believe speed is the number one PvP quality and this is looking to be my main energy shotgun going forward.

I have a very good Shapshot/ Quickdraw roll (EDIT: mine is identical to Cool Guy's except with Smallbore) that I'll probably use most of the time, but I also have another one with a curious roll that on paper looks like it should be the most accurate shotgun in history with Barrel Constrictor, Quickdraw, Accurized, Full Choke, Range MW, and the Precision Frame. That's 3 boosts to control pellet spread, but returning to D2 after a hiatus I've read these pellet spread modifiers aren't any good currently and Full Choke is now one of the worst barrels.

Lmao same and almost max range too I’ve been using that one aspect that gives u volatile rounds on grenade kill for the state bumb Finally I can actually use that aspect and have a decent gun Tho not sure if it’s better than matador cuz I have full auto and assault mag which makes it shoot much faster Kinda weird how slow this shoots sometimes you gotta double shot someone when they’re too far to melee and too far to use primary

@SepticEmpire I will say it seems be a one pump wonder if you don't have assault. You really gotta rely on its consistency and if you think you won't hit it you might as well primary anyways. But GYAAATT if that one pump wonder doesn't feel satisfying. As soon as I started using it I felt like forsaken shotgun days like "did I really get him?" Type shit it feels great.

I had one drop with Corkscrew, acc rounds, quickdraw, destabilising rounds and a Range MW. Not only is it super consistent but destabilising rounds actually comes up way more often than I ever would’ve expected. I have a clip from bannerfall where I hop up on one of the balconies and four people are pushing through the choke, I shotgun one which makes the other 3 volatile and dodge behind cover, as the next one runs out and gets shot gunned he blows up from volatile and causes both of the other 2 to explode.

They could just make barrel constrictor passively tighten pellet spread and then put it in the same column as opening shot. Choosing it over opening shot would still be a dealers choice

This is actually slept on with repuslor brace. Astrocyte voidlock with this shotty and you can keep chaining void overshields while blinking into your enemies face.

My roll is Corkscrew/Accurised/Quickdraw/Snapshot/Range Masterwork. Total beast. That's 90 range with 39 handling, and imo quickdraw/snapshot is the ultimate combo. It's just consistent, they're always active and to the same degree it doesn't vary depending on how many enemies are nearby, or whether i've shot it in the past 3.1 seconds. Every time I shoot, I know EXACTLY what I am getting.

I think i have like 8-900 hours in D2, but havent played in like 2 years. Dont even follow it anymore but came across this video. The Retold Tale was my gun. I always used that thing. Everyone was always so big on the mind benders ambition but i was always a retold tale guy. I had thousands of pvp kills with it. Had a god roll too. Full choke, QuickDraw, snapshot etc.

Been using my quick draw / killing wind with 90 range for MONTHS. People always asking why I’m not using matador. You are spot on in the review here. It’s all about speed. I use it with Rifled Barrel, Accurized Rounds, Quickdraw, Snapshot SIghts. It's basically a nice, deep shot on demand. I have it with a handling masterwork. That's the best I've had drop so far.

I have both an 80 range QD + Snapshot roll and a max range roll with Slideshot from the last time this gun was released and absolutely agree that the handling from the lesser range one just feels way smoother and more consistent in PvP. Best shotgun I’ve ever used imo

I use well rounded an snap base 90 range paired with ac dc feedback fence an my monte carlo on my void titan with shield throw offensive bulwark an controlled demolition an rally barracade to buff my range when im playing cover or getting a rez but this is my favorite pvp loadout as of late but for trails i spice it up next level with an adept messenger with discord an keep away an a max range 75 recoil direction wow i grinded for these rolls specifically altho i wanted headseeker but hitting a solid 100 range on both primary an special feels like I can compete with any opposing loadout or map an if need be i swap to a quick draw explosive rnd rose each is an op loadout imho

So... would you say getting Retold Tale again is worth it? Because I've had mine (which feels like 3 years now) with snapshot, Quickdraw, assault mag., barrel shroud with a RM. Having 30 plus mobility and extra handling does sound nice, but you need to get hit first. But I guess it boils down to personal preference then

I love my Retold Tale. Still have an older one without an origin perk and it's the most consistant pellet shotgun I own. It's the only one I'll use in scrims. People keep telling me I'm insane for choosing my Retold with QD/ SS over my 5/5 Matador with TD / OS but when I swap to it last second, the Retold never fails to fire while the Matador often takes an extra moment to ready that will get me killed.

I think you nailed it completely. I am in the camp of being shredded by them, but when I use them I only hit maybe 40% of the time. It's so strange to me that I only like using them if I can suspend first or shield bash. Otherwise I shy away, but I will try to go for a better role. Barrel constrictor should work like master of arms were any weapon final blow can proc it. Because shotguns are all about the one shot kill, not the get a kill then hunt for another immediately.

Ever since I got my Conditional Finality, Every shotgun feels lesser in comparison. The Snapshot/QuickDraw roll feels like the Energy slot equal to me. Very good Shotgun!

My only wish was it could roll slickdraw on it. I've gotten a retrofuturist with slickdraw and it feels SO much better than quickdraw, regardless I never kept a Retold after the pellet changes so I need to actually try it out in the near future (even though I don't like special weapons)

I started using a shotgun more often when Conditional Finality dropped for me ; I have a retold tale but , guys that I play with swear that it is not a good shotgun. I always have liked how snappy it feels … but Now it feels like if I’m gonna disgrace myself it has to be Conditional finality . My retold tale has MW range , full choke, light mag , quick draw , snap shot ! . In my eyes the purest God roll but some people keep saying that full choke has been nerfed and that I should use something different.

this is the easiest god tier shotgun to get for sure, but the absolute 5/5 matador with threat/opening/max handling perks is 100% better. 100 range + bonus accuracy with opening shot, 88 handling + a scaler (and more ads speed than snapshot retold) makes it just as fast too. thread of ascent makes it faster.

My go to shotgun is, funny enough, Compass Rose. Surplus/Cascade, 89 range. Just feels very consistent. To me, retold feels inconsistent, and I have a very good roll of it.

I have an old one with no origin trait: Full Choke, Accurized, QD, Snapshot, Range MW (hits 85 range). I like my QD/Opening Shot Fractethyst more, but this is a different slot.

wow is that really the best Found Verdict you have 😅 that’s a depressing roll I wouldn’t even waste that vault space for it. Imperial Decree has the been the most consistent shotgun in the game for me, it was my main at one point until Condtional took up that slot. I do like Retold Tale, I have a 4/5: Smallbore/Accurized/QuickDraw/OneTwo and Range MW… obviously Snapshot would be way better than OneTwo, but Found Verdict is my go to for 1 strong reason, I can quickly swap to another Arc Special in the middle of a Trials match without worrying about swapping mods too. Mercurial is my favorite Sniper and Iterative Loop is my favorite fusion, these are all Arc so I can freely swap between them and Found Verdict or Matador if I needed to.

@@12345apesbecause of the spread being able to hit all the pellets. The only energy Precision frame I have is Compass Rose. 2nd reason is the origin trait works well with a shoot punch play style. Super smooth and reacts better than any other 1-2 punch shotty I’ve used. It’s worth a try.

I have a real question, I'm not a shotgunner, but I see gameplay all of the time and, other than reloading, is Slideshot really used? My issue is, no one is rolling around the floor in real life. Shotguns do not work like they do in this game, so I really do not use shotguns in game. Real life is here, in reality, but also in game as well and, to be honest, especially for Hunter, in air is the better option overall. It seems a lot of people are just getting confidence from having the perk than actually putting it to use. I am sure there may be people who will say 'I use it all of the time' to defend the choice, but maybe just check your gameplay and if you do, great, if not, maybe there are better choices available.
