This garage is awesome! How tall are the walls and, what is the pitch of the roof? Thanks in advance. Great work!

This is really awesome! Nice work! One suggestion I can make: please put more support under the left side of that metal pipe that the winch is hanging from. Whole set of stairs resting on half an inch of pipe on the edge of a piece of dimensional lumber doesn't seem like enough. Right side has that block of OSB under it, put another on the left side.

1 1/2" pipe is very strong. Running it through the 2x4's on each side offsets enough strain so that the pipe will last a long time. That OSB is a spacer, he stated as much, and it's not meant for a load anyway by design.

It's not the pipe's strength I'm talking about, it's the fact that it's resting on only ½" of 2x4 on either end. The pipe needs better support.

@@prodigalmantis you underestimate the strength of a standard 2x4, and from what I can see, which isn't much, the pipe goes all the way through the 2x4 and in that case, the pipe has 1.5" of 2x4 as support on each end.

@@prodigalmantis, the weight of the stairs ON the winch assembly is at most 125 lbs. Made the decision to go without full contact with weight factors in mind. Thanks for your post!

Whoa, not sure how this came up, but amazing work!

Thats pretty slick

Very Cool when you built your garage im guessing your architect figured out the load calculations for all that? Im wanting to do something similar but I think retrofitting it after the fact is going to be much harder do to my joist configuration.

Designed and built the entire garage project myself from concept to final product with materials from Menards. I did however use the Menards design tool to get a rough start on building supplies. Ended up needing $300 more in lumber, but it went very smoothly as I wanted to “over” engineer it!

Hi, im in the process of building a mezzanine in my garage, may i ask you how high are your stairs in total? and how high is each step? i hear it is made of 2x12 material but no mention of how high everything is. I need to build something like you did and it seems like your stairs are pretty compact and sre not taking much space when on the groud, help me out please.

Here is the measurements. Stairs is 10’6” tall (13’7” when measuring length of stairs on the ground). Tread rise is 11” with a run of 9” (tread overhangs 2”). I did use 2x12’s for the stringer. Depending on your height needed, you rise will vary. I went aggressive as I had a short distance to go up quite a ways. Works perfect though. I used HeadLok wood screws to fasten most of the structure.
