We did one of these at our old office for loft storage. We did our hinges on the platform to float the stairs up in the air with a counterweight in a tube. The counterweight was a pain, hinging it against the wall would have been easier and provided almost as much space.

Great work Andrew. As a suggestion for the mega loft extension what about incorporating a lift (for boxes only). This could save you trips up and down the stairs with the heavy loads and should be a bit safer. The lift could be operated on a pully system powered by an electric winch.

Excellent project Andrew! Three concerns/suggestions... 1- Glad to hear you're considering adding more hinges. 3 might be good, 4 would be better. 2- If you haven't already done so, at the top of your stringers, cut off the upper tip of each stringer that's sticking up above the floor landing. (Trip hazard). 3- Add a handrailing on the wall 33 inches above the stringer height (or whatever height will still allow the stairs to fold up). You need a way to balance yourself going up/down with an armful of "stuff". A 2x4 ripped in half with half a dozen standoff blocks would be sufficient to hold on to. Safety 1st!!! Great build Andrew!!!
@pachydermhomestead2 жыл бұрын

@@TKCL well I am thinking of an oak staircase with a 7 inch hight step by 11 deep. Then with the top landing built to bolt on with lag bolts and a top panel to hide the bolts. And then white wash the oak so you can put the similar color of stain as the floors with a railing made of black iron as to avoid the flow of the ininterupted view for the views of the sky and outside nature shots. And get a real computer to sit and edit your videos in minutes for rendering.
