Boundary Road

Күн бұрын

After an intense summer of restoring windows and developing our gardens, I retreated into the Scottish Highlands for some rest and recovery time. I stayed in a beautiful artist's cabin built in the late 1800s and enjoyed time quilting, walking the estate grounds including a walled kitchen garden, watching the wildlife and reading. From start to finish, it was exactly what I needed. The only thing which would have improved the experience would have been a lovely tub for soaking in as I do love a bath ;-)

Oh Claire! So wonderful you got some time on your own away from the renovations and the demands of everyday life and got some much needed and valued 'me' time. I am actually making a quilt as I watch this. Have just prepped the binding of a Liberty Tana Lawn quilt this morning. I had to chuckle when you said you locked yourself out and had to go find the owners in just jim jams and socks. 😂😂😂

And because we'd had such terrible weather leading up to the trip and I was having trouble drying the washing, I took pyjamas that were mismatched. 🫢 How exciting getting to the binding stage of your quilt!

Wonderful but made me cry for some reason. Life can feel overwhelming and even scary at times. I am not sure I would even have felt brave enough to do this alone trip. Your videos always bring joy.

Thank you for sharing your feelings. Although the views from my windows were unobstructed, the rear of the property was in view of the main house. The estate is also private and only open to the owners and guests, which gave me peace of mind. I'm not very brave though, so despite there being beautiful woodland and river walks, I kept to the tracks in view of the main house. It's a shame personal safety has had to become so necessary and probably essential these days.

What a beautiful place. And how wonderful that you felt happy there all alone. I don't think I would have felt as calm as you! What sort of reception did you get, turning up in pyjamas and socks?? I hope they have you a lift back!!

You are so welcome and it's nice to hear you enjoyed seeing how I spent a bit of time away from my home. I thought it was such a special place. Of course, due to the setting, but also because everything seemed simple and without complications.

What a wonderful place. My husband can drop me there any time. :) I watched your video while hand stitching my quilt. My sewing machine is in storage till we are finished with our renovation. But I love making my quilt from start to finish all by hand. It is a lot more work but it also very meditative. I hope someone at the estate brought you home when you were locked out. Or at least lend you some wellies for the walk home. :) Thank you for another lovely video. Greetings from France. Bisous.

It was a great place for getting away...slightly odd to watch everyone drive away and leave me amongst the trees. In the beginning, I felt like Cameron Diaz in The Holiday when she arrived at the cottage, but it didn't take long to wind down. I've done one hand piecing quilt, it took me four years to finish but my mind has been ticking over and I think you've inspired me to do another one! BTW, thankfully they drove me back.

Lovely place to unwind. Wish I could find an escape. I suffer from the same overwhelming tasks as you. Repair work, hard chores around the property ... and now with Autumn here and winter so close, there's even more chores.. So I understand why you needed a break. ... I'm glad you were able to escape and find that healing, peaceful time.

It's the first time I've ever done something like that, and it was wonderful to completely switch off and feel unburdened. Now I'm back, I'm telling myself to be more realistic with what I can achieve, but that's easier said than done. Let us both find inner peace with our workloads ;-)

That was a beautiful place you were at. Being alone sometimes is good for a person. Your quilt is beautiful. Did you take all your equipment with you, sewing machine and iron? And no cooking! 😊
@BoundaryRoad
@BoundaryRoad 3 күн бұрын
I've never done anything like that before and I also think it's beneficial to be alone - it's a deeper level of peacefulness than regular quiet time in the house. I took my equipment, including the iron and brought simple heat-up dinners from home. It was wonderful!

Everything is lovely. I especially loved the walled garden. There must be an army of gardeners who maintain it. If it were my garden I’d be out there puttering every day. This one seemed trimmed, ready for autumn, and empty of any gardeners. Also, I’m impressed by the huge size of some of the trees. They must be hundreds of years old. I see why the gentlemen in the Regency novels I read often mention going to their shooting lodges in Scotland to hunt pheasant! Thanks for bringing us along on your own “pheasant shoot.”

Your last sentence made me laugh! I went to the garden early in the morning as the sun was coming up. It was very peaceful. I think they have one groundsman and one gardener. The fruit trees were amazing, and the high walls would protect them well during winds. Now I want to replan my garden. 🤔

Wonderful balance of color and pattern in your quilt. Thank you for recording & sharing this. I know it’s a lot of work. I had to abandon the landscaping/replanting of the garden at our new to us/old house for a hysterectomy. I was at about 60% so very frustrating. 😡Surgery went very, very well, but now I’m recouping inside in our about 20% re-renovated/organized new to us/old home. Sigh. But no complaints, really. It’s good to have a project, even if I just have to stare at it for the moment. Even that is a pleasure - “Slow decorating” is a thing now. But I took a vicarious break along with you - such a luxury. Thank you. I hope you feel refreshed & encouraged. 💗💗💗

Oh, to step away from the house was wonderful! There's a long recovery time with that surgery, and I can imagine the torture you must be feeling staring at your 20% renovated house. You could spend hours on Pinterest and call it research ;-). Wishing you a full recovery!

Hi Claire, Seeing the quiet magnificence of those centuries-old trees, the cold morning mists rising with the sun above the lake, the gloriously attired pheasants finding their home in these un-sullied surroundings moved my soul -- in need of hope for peace & the possibility that we will re-awaken our good will toward fellow humans.

Beautiful . . . and what amazes me is that places I watch videos from, like the UK, France, Portugal, etc., all look like places in Ohio USA. Especially the southern part of Ohio. We live in the country in Wood County, which is in the Northwest. I have always loved this land because it is mostly flat and you can see for miles.
