Decent advice for most breeds. However: Re socialization: include sounds, different people (eg, sirens, lawn mowers, people with beards, people with canes or in wheelchairs, bicycles, baby strollers, etc), all types of dogs (easy to encounter in dog parks). Re exercise: golden retrievers, like other retrievers, were bred to help hunters RETRIEVE birds and other prey. Therefore, playing fetch is a great activity for them to get exercise, as well as to mimic what they were originally bred to do. Re human foods: fresh fruit and vegetables (check if the specific fruit/vege is safe for dogs) can actually be make very healthy treats and additions to their diets. A Belgian study showed that dogs lived an avg 3 years longer when fed fresh fruits and vege. Many people feed their fur babies fresh, homemade foods, btw. Cheers

I love dogs. There are so many kinds of dogs. I need to have a representative. At that time, I did not know much about dogs except for a few basic ideas. I looked at pictures of dog breeds and decided the golden retriever looked the best representative for dogs ---- no short legs, no flat face, no sharp face, no piercing eyes, floppy ears that make them look docile and furry. Then I got to know the breed's name and their characteristics. Wow! The perfect dog for me. When the German Shepherd expressed any strengths over the Golden Retriever, I was jealous. Now, those 2 are my favourite although I always have a soft spot for GRs. For the last 5 years, I got to know more about ferocious dog breeds and love them too.

Goldens are the smartest and most affectionate dogs. Despite being goofy and big they are wonderful. We have a 9 week old. My mother ans step dad has past experience with a lab and golden. I’m so exited to watch my new little baby bro grow into a handsome doggo

There's a lot of good stuff there. I've had Labradors most of my life, but am now on my second Golden (the first was when I was too young to really know what I was doing, and we took her over from another family anyway, after the hard work had been done) and everything you list there is just about spot-on. They are simply wonderful dogs, but you have to put some work in at the start - far too many people think you can just press a button somewhere and have a perfect dog. And, as you say, start asap, NOT when the pup is half a year old. It's sad that in so many aspects of life people listen to what one (probably well-meaning, but.... well....) friend tells them, ignoring in the process all of the knowledge and experience of many many experts.

If you're getting a puppy from a reputable breeder, they should provide you with a clean bill of health from a veterinarian. Get insurance as early as possible since that's when it'll likely be the cheapest since they won't have any pre-existing conditions. Plus insurance goes up as the age of the dog goes up.

From what I read, let a new puppy do what it wants the day you get it home. Going to a new home is stressful for a puppy, so let it do its thing and acclimate to its new home stress free the first day, then start training the next day. I should note that I havn't actually raised a puppy myself, I ended up rescuing a 4 year old dog, so this is purely from my research, not from personal experience. It makes a lot of sense to me though

I have two years old golden retriever male dog . He is aggressively biting when sprayed with medicine or taken for vaccination. Not just that his temperament is quite unpredictable whenever stopped from doing something he may or may not bite .His aggression is not regular that’s worrisome. (Bites even his most favourite family member ) His biting have increased to once in month he gets angry and bites. Can this be fixed? Is it feasible to train him at this age and fix this pblm?

Is this something I should follow? Please help. Im just nervous that by socializing them early they may catch parvo or get sick. Any helpful tips much appreciated 😊 thank you 🙏🏻
@leannerietman74922 жыл бұрын
Socializing a dog is also getting them used to loud noises and different textures under their paws etc. you can do all that inside but your dog needs to be socialized outdoors with other dogs and people as well, especially before the age of 4 months, that’s the most important socializing phase. Take your dog to many different places of else you will get an anxious dog.

Home cooked food with natural ingredients is better than commercially processed food. Raw food is really really good for dogs because most of the nutrients are retained and not destroyed. However, dogs on raw diet must be dewormed diligently. Reminder: Dogs on home-made food will disdain kibbles. I train my dogs either they eat or they go hungry.

Mine is on Purina Pro Plan, it's one of the most common and best ones that people like to use. Majority of goldens will be very food motivated so you can use kibble for training purposes. For high value treats, I like to use cooked chicken (unseasoned), and other single ingredient treats from stores (like dried liver, chicken, beef, etc.)

Even if you spend 400-600 euro a year on dog insurrence it keeps me safe for making the most terrible decision: Pay or Die. I don't want to make that decision ever in my life and can say at the end of a dogs life: I gave it all I got in all the times he got sick or injured.

I don't understand this concept of training pets by paying so much. Pets, especially dogs are sharp enough to understand almost everything as they grow. My pet was never trained, but was very disciplined. He never sits in a sofa or bed, never enters kitchen, sits with the family during a conversation, and loved my dad to death. And he would understand everything we say. I miss him😑

That is so not true! First of all it totally depends on a particular breed and its capacity to consume food. In fact Dogs should eat at least two meals each day, about 12 hours apart. But a breakfast, lunch, and dinner schedule is an equally great option and yes as said before it differs from breed to breed.
