I had a Goldie that died of a heart attact at age of 8months on Monday morning. My heart is totally broken and one thing no one told you that losing a goldie is like losing like your child, best friend and more than what I could put in words. I have watched all your videos and apart from taking him for two weeks of puppy obedience training and did everything I could to make his life the best I could as a human. Thank you for this channel as I have learnt soo much from your insightfull videos. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

I have had 4 Goldens, all from puppies, and everyone has been a blessing. THE NUMBER ONE THING I always make sure I do is, as soon as they are vaccinated, socialize them with other dogs and lots of people interactions. Puppy school is a great place to do this! The first 9 months of their life is the most critical time for them to learn how to be a “good doggy”!

The hardest part about raising a Golden Retriever puppy is knowing that one day you're going to have to say goodbye and it's going to rip your heart right out and you'll never be the same again. I will soon be embarking on a Golden journey for the third time, and this is the only thing that scares me. And yet, I can't imagine going through the rest of my life not having one by my side . My previous two Goldens were actually incredibly easy to raise. I barely broke a sweat compared to dogs of other breeds I've raised. This video has fantastic advice - I agree with everything you touched on.

I have done the same faults with my Golden; we got him beginning Covid and there were not many contacts. But Golden are easily to train, I‘m doing it now and he is learning well! Never give up! Goldie‘s are great dogs.❤️

I have golden and he’s an angel, so obedient and calm everyone thinks he’s a service dog. I raised him from 6 weeks and trained him as soon as he gets home. He’s raised with two energetic older American Eskimo. I took him to dog park daily, run on hiking trails weekly, had tones of chew toys and toys. I took him everywhere, boats, cars, bus, plane, and trains. I reward him only when he’s calm. Now he learned to calm.

That is so true. The puppies need to be socialised as early as possible. Thank you for these tips. 😍

I needed this video so thank you so much! He’s my first golden and the youngest puppy I’ve ever had and I’d be lying if I said I don’t feel regret when I’m exhausted and frustrated with play biting and middle of the night/crazy early mornings. This too shall pass.

We were blessed with your videos and guidance before getting our puppy so we took ours everywhere! Ofcourse, in our arms or place them on a chair or shopping cart. True story, it got too heavy when she reached 20 lbs + but it has totally paid off! She is now fully vaccinated and loves walking outside and doesn't get distracted even by noisy chicken buses or semi trailers driving by

Well, I think they just go thru various stages and as a young puppy they are curious and have little fear. As they grow, they don’t like change. Goldens thrive on routine. I did do puppy kindergarten, took him in the car for short trips daily and walked him twice a day to different locations in the neighborhood. He was fine. Then at about 8 months, he started to be anxious when the routine changed. A few nights at a hotel really threw him off and he had a terrible time adjusting. The vet trip at that age was awful. Now at a year, he is improving again. He is willing to go for a walk in a new place, had a well behaved vet visit and is getting better when greeting strangers. He still wants a predictable life but is gaining confidence everyday. I bet you did a great job and your golden loves his/her life.

Important to do heaps of research before getting a puppy. It also helps if there’s more than one family member to help out. Golden puppies can be tiring. We love our Golden to pieces. Now 7. We now reap all the benefits of past knowledge and patience. Your tips are important to hear.

Heaps of research is nice, but no amount of research will prepare you for the actual reality. I researched a lot, but the reality of just how hard it is was unexpected. And, research is not always helpful. As noted in the video about keeping dogs away from others until they are fully vaccinated was such a rabid point made over and over again, not once was there a suggestion as on here to expose them from afar. Too much research can instil a paranoia about taking your unvaxxed pup anywhere. The only reliable research is past experience. Once you have gone through it all you know what works and what does not, and what the breed really is like.

My golden mix grew up around 6 grandkids and more than 6 adults. He is such a great boy. I'm really sad now. Due to circumstances he doesn't see them any more. I feel so bad for him. BTW there's a book called The Intelligence of Dogs. It has some great ideas about stopping the jumping and lunging. If he barks take a sprayer that has mist. Just spray it in his face when he barks. It seems so rude, but it doesn't hurt and can become a funny thing
@FlyfishermanMike Жыл бұрын
The sprayer is awesome. We had a dog that wouldn't leave the garbage alone. For a few days we'd spray him when he'd get in it. It quickly got to the point where leaving the spray bottle near the garbage was enough. Pretty soon he avoided the garbage completely. Negative reinforcement can be just as powerful as positive.

GH .... very well said! I am raising my just turned one year old Golden as my service dog. We are,now, on the last leg of a 5 week road trip across country. Yes, I have confidence in taking her out in public but you only get confidence with practice. Yes, your dog may 💩 at the very worst time ... just bring clean up necessities and deal with it. Google up businesses that allow dogs!!! Here are some rules that will help. 1. Don't let anyone touch your dog. 2. Keep your dog away from other dogs... you turn and go in the opposite direction. 3. Give your dog an opportunity to potty before and after entering a business. 4. If going to a dog park, have your dog earn their way inside by waiting for your cue to exit your car, sitting before entering the park gate and inside sitting again when you release. You can do this .... and take your dog from good to great!!!

Train your dogs. Trained dogs are happier dogs cause they know what’s expected of them and their person knows how to communicate with them when situations get confusing

i have raised four goldens serially, this is the single most important thing, the golden retriever types between 8 and 12 weeks, this four week period is the single most crucial and critical period of the dogs entire life, the very best way to type the animal is , during week 8 and 9 have a adult dog living in your home that knows the routine, this dog will teach your golden all the house rules including potty, simple obedience, and standard routine, week 10 -11 the training adult can be returned to its owners, the second two weeks you acclimate the dog ( now by himself) to people, the outdoor ( parks, walks, cars, strangers, the human world, including gun fire if the dog is going to be a retriever) this split system is incredibly effective, and only ruined by humans that cannot figure out how to do it) but when accomplished the results of these four short weeks will repay you for the dogs entire lifetime.
@voodoochild1975az2 жыл бұрын
I would argue this is slightly more important for Goldens. Expectations. Goldens are notoriously friendly dogs. People would go out of their way to say hello to my Golden. He loved all the attention, but you do need to prepare your Golden for more people wanting to interact with them. An unsocialized Golden has the problem amplified by the number of people wanting to play with them immediately on sight. On the upside, Goldens do tend to make socializing them easy on us.
@vasantakumar6663Ай бұрын
My 3 year golden was well socialised. He was very good with children too. But off late he is skittish around small children. Those who are at his eye level. He is fine with older children but younger ones, he is not comfortable any more.

What a lot of people don't realize is that a trainer or puppy school is for the owners, not the puppy. If you and the rest of your family aren't all on the same page, it will confuse your dog and send him back to his bad habits.
@chriscary92692 жыл бұрын
I never put dogs in a crate kennel, I used a baby gate and blocked off the bedroom hallway, for the frist 4 months I slept with Rosie ( my golden). Don’t bring your puppies to the dog park till they get all their shots, but after that the dog park should be a daily routine. Rosie is super friendly to humans and other K-9

I'm thinking of getting a dog as a companion cause i have social anxiety and thus don't leave the house at all unless necessary. I love goldens. And i know i want them but at this point i'm not sure if the dog will be happy with me. I mean i can take them to walk around the block or the rooftop but apparently that's not enough. I really don't want my future dog to be like me.

I learned a lot from my first Dog (a golden) he loved people but he hated other dogs, he sees them as prey. I def didn't socialize him enough, and the only dog he got along with was our older smaller dog. we tried to take him to boot camp but it didn't work, we were eventually told that he had the gameness gene.

Hmm, my puppy is coming home in 2 weeks but I'd be vary wary of sitting next to a kid's play park with him hanging out the window of my car - I can imagine the reaction from parents would be similar to me sitting there in a van with "Free Sweets" written on the side! :D

I have no clue why, but my golden is not a fan of other dogs. Not mean, but almost scared. This should not be the issue, considering that he is 105 pounds and really tall.(my pfp). He loves humans though. He think he is one.

I wish I had socialized my golden more too. I accidentally turned him racist. No joke my golden gets scared whenever it sees a black person. I didn’t know they could tell the difference but for the longest time he would freak out around them.
