Hi Noah! My husband and I live in this town. We know the full story behind it and have been in contact with the original owners granddaughter over the years. It has a very sad backstory and I won't be able to share the details online but just know it wasn't abandoned by it's original owners. The last time someone was living there was 2012. It is currently owned by a person however not the town.

Something about seeing these properties in this condition. It Makes me sad and happy at the same time. Thinking of all the memories that they may have shared. And wondering what happened to them. It's too bad that these houses can't tell their history. And why can't people respect what is not theirs. Just look at all that destruction.

This once beautiful home, breaks my heart 💔 I hate what vandals do to a gorgeous, once loved home😞 Definitely from at least the 70s era! The toilet paper holder, curtains, appliances & several other tell tale signs! The fake, wall paper tile, was a part of that time frame as well!!! Loved your new camera equipment! The quality was very nice! Glad that your dad has a voice🤣 Nice to hear him adding his wisdom! He could even talk more…love to hear him converse with you 👍 I think that if this house would have had a good roof on it, we wouldn’t have seen the ceilings damaged the way that they were! My favorite part of this house was the downstairs fireplace wall!!! Gorgeous!!! The kitchen cabinets were an upgrade as well! If this house would have been kept up, it would just needed to be updated to be comfortable again! The camper could have been taken to a homeless encampment & been used by a person! You have sooo very much growth of vegetation, it must be very moist there! If you were walking in this much vegetation in the US, you’d have had to watch for snakes😳🥺😢 The moisture & vegetation brings bugs & spiders, hence the cobwebs…yuck👎😳😰🥺 Noah, always enjoy your videos & commentary! Love you 😍❤️💕

Thanks for sharing anyway and for the respect you show to the owners possessions . R.I.P the people who worked hard all their lives to set up their home and have things they enjoyed around them. I think all the switches worked, but the bulbs in some were burned out. That’s why the fan ran but the lights weren’t on. Strange that they left power on and the sump pump running in a house with big holes in the roof. I wonder if they died in an accident and the things left were just what the family didn’t want. It almost seemed like they may have had someone staying there for a while afterwards. I stayed in a house for a few weeks looking after some pets when a friend of the family died. She had gone on a vacation and I was pet/house sitting for her and died in a car accident accident along the way. The family came and took most of the furniture and stuff away and only left the bare necessities for me while they found homes for the pets and settled the estate. The estate on that house could still be in limbo in the courts.

Not that it matters too much, but this house SCREAMS early to mid 1970s for me. Just the style of the house and everything inside reminds me exactly of my grandma's house which hasn't been remodeled since it was built in 1972. I absolutely adore that 1970s style, especially that kitchen and the classic stone floor to ceiling fireplace in the basement, you really can't get more 1970s than this house! Such an absolute shame kids had to ruin everything....

That motorhome probably hasn't been used since the early 1990s. Everything points to an elderly couple who bought it new, or before it was too old, retired and lived there, travelled in the motorhome a bit, then it got too much, so they stayed at home until they either passed away or went into a long term care home.

I bet some very genuine elderly people lived there and maybe unfortunately got ill and never got to come back home and had no kids who cared enough to take over the property for them. This house had a lot of sixties features--the gold Plexiglas, the plastic behind-the-toilet organizer, railings, floorings, cabinets, fixtures, etc.
@keithlincoln5109
@keithlincoln5109 3 жыл бұрын
Not the 1960s. The 1970s. They had coloured fixtures in the 60s too, but the gold plexiglass by the front door, the patterned carpet in the basement, the bar in the basement all point to the 1970s. You're right that the cabinet on top of the toilet (such a good idea; why don't we have that anymore?) was an idea that started in the 60s, but the style of this one is 1970s for sure.
@reallyrandomrides1296
@reallyrandomrides1296 3 жыл бұрын
@@keithlincoln5109 Yes, looks like an early to mid 70s house, maybe even a bit newer. At first I thought it might have been from the 60s, unless it had a renovation later, but still lots of cool retro fixtures and finishings. I'd love to find a house like this, that's not abandoned and decaying. All of the 1950s to 1970s houses I see have been "remodeled" or "updated" either by new homeowners or house flippers. Not too many left in original condition. Maybe some of the goodies can be salvaged. I think that house is too far gone to save.

Seems so freaking strange that abandoned places like this don't have everything stripped/trashed. It's weird seeing stuff just there, and no one has taken it. OMG, seeing Myst, Rise of the Triad, Doom games...etc. Wow. Takes me back as a kid honestly when I had all that and played with it. Even the freaking HP scanner and inkjet printer!! w0w

That power still on after so long seems to be a Canadian thing. See it all the time in these videos. Down here in the states they’d cut it off in 60 days unless someone was paying. So strange. And a dry pump will burn up. This one sounds awful. Drives me crazy but doesn’t seem to be a good logic. Nice video btw. Loved the butterfly wallpaper. Pretty sure this was 70s house. Loving the new equipment, made for another great video. My hypothesis about the house, the very elderly occupants died and their Batchelor son inherited the house and was coming back to take care of it from time to time, hence the workshop and garden stuff and the grubby overalls, but not much else left behind. Maybe he grew up in the house so he was sentimental about keeping it. Perhaps he fell though the windows while trying to fix that skylight hole, off that dodgy wheeled scaffold. It could have been his dog dead in the wardrobe, having crapped all over the other room. And anyone finding the son’s body after he died falling off the scaffold may not have known about the poor dog.

That's a possibility. Definitely looks like elderly owners had the house, probably since it was new, and passed away or went into a long term care home or passed away. If that was their pet dog, it probably died of starvation. Poor thing. Maybe their child/children lived way out of town, and it wasn't convenient to come to check on the house, but they're still paying the electric bill, thinking the house is in better shape and want to keep the heat on so the pipes don't freeze. Can't think of any other reason the electricity would still be on all these years later. At this point, it's a fire waiting to happen.

My parents used to live out in Northumberland County just north of Coburg in the late 90's/early 2000's. Always struck me as sort of a sad area and saw a few abandoned houses out there. Too bad to see a whole place with contents get left behind - just forgotten. And sickening to see what vandals do to property that isn't theirs to destroy.

Vandalism is so upsetting.. electricity to a place that has sat abandoned this long is crazy.. what a waste…. Who pays.. where are friends and relatives? It is a lot smoother camera movement…. Light is fine.. so much could have been used by those in need.. bad bulbs…. That’s maybe why the lights aren’t working….. was a beautiful fp…. Typical style of a house from the 70s…. Good explore. I'm just going to say it's a miracle that place hasn't burnt to the ground. That's a sand point well pump and I assume it's running dry by the sound it was making and that no faucets had a drip coming from them even though they have the hard water stains from dripping. Next is the florescent light in the mans room in the basement when they are glowing like that due to bad bulbs the ballasts gets extremely hot. As for the lights not working I think the circuits were fine but the kids that wrecked everything either left all the lights on and they finally burnt out or since the power is on completing the circuit the house was struck by lightning and it burnt out the bulbs for the lights. Its. Crazy because you know somebody is paying the electric bill. I would've done the right thing and just turned the main brraket off
@canuckfixit7722

Boggles the mind that the property has been abandoned for so long but somehow the local power utility has not (or cannot) cut the power. Who is paying the monthly bill? I can only speculate that the owner(s) were seniors and IIRC per the OEB law, utilities in Ontario cannot cut power to a residence occupied (or at least owned) by seniors even for non-payment of service.

Well, it's a silver Buick, a popular car for seniors, maybe a late 1990s model with low mileage. It's probably been parked there all this time and was still a decent car until the vandals got to it.

That pump sounded like it's been dry awhile. I don't think they supposed to be that loud. Anyway excellent video.

I love mid century homes! Most of them have been "remuddled" and "updated" or "modernized" - this house did not have much of that. It's a shame it's gotten so deteriorated, probably too far gone to save, unless it's in an area with insane real estate prices and it's priced right, like close to the value of the land. Someone would have to gut the house, and hopefully save some of the cool mid century decor. Looks like an elderly couple lived there, maybe even bought the house when it was new, and then passed away and any family members lived far away and still settling the estate or gave up on it. It was probably a very nice house back in the day.

So literally 1000’s of houses all over the world were abandoned in the global financial credit crisis of 2008 and 2009. Cause they couldn’t pay their mortgages. It was Much more so in the U.S with ppl (mortgagees) being permitted to just hand the house keys into the bank. And run. Most of them didn’t have time or money for removalists. And faced living from then on in their car. During these house repossessions, some big attempts were made by companies hired to ‘clean out’ the houses. To save photo + important documents at least. It didn’t happen in all cases. Some houses never got emptied or re-sold by the banks. And some of those homes the banks were unable to re-sell are I think some of the houses in these videos, they are the repossessed houses from that financial crash. People HAD to walk away with nothing.

That's a well pump you should turn it off so it doesn't burn out. Also perhaps the light bulbs are burnt out!?!?

What I don't understand is.... how is there still power in this house? In the US if you don't pay your electric bill the utility company shuts off service to the house. Is that different in Canada?
@reallyrandomrides1296
@reallyrandomrides1296 3 жыл бұрын
An out of town or out of country son/daughter is probably paying the electric bill thinking the house is still in good condition but hasn't been there in years, or since their parents were alive.

Those cobwebs are horrendous! Looks like a single man was the last resident, no feminine clothing or items left. No real signs of children either. I'm guessing the gentleman either died or went to jail. Sad about the dog in the closet, looks like he was left behind and forgotten. Great quality video Noah, Thanks

This home was definitely under renovation when whatever happened - happened hence the plastic with the painters tape going from the kitchen area into the dining/living room as well as the scaffolding. The dead animal is a mystery for sure. A cat or some other wild animal would make sense, how many believe it to be a dog (I personally couldn't tell). Motorhome doesn't surprise me, many people leave those to just sit and rot (at least here in US). Very possible whomever was in the process of renovating could have been sleeping in the motorhome and parked their car in the garage as well. The power, if they're planning on demolition soon it could have recently been turned on to use during demolition. We've had cases like that we've worked on.

My guess is the owner ended up in a care facility and the property is in a trust, that’s why the power is still on, a trust not managed well, do them a favor and turn off all the breakers in the electric box, house also has electric baseboard heat some of those thermostats could be on.
