A reward from over a year ago! Also doing fan art polls and sending physical art over at / otaking77077
This is a look into how I go about animating my short films, specifically the R-Type short. People in the $10 tier over on Patreon got a digital copy of this as well as the film and the script a year ago. Feel free to check out the Patreon for lots of secret stuff, access to the Discord, folders worth of downloads and more.

I honestly thought ALL of this was animated by CG, and converted to look hand drawn, and 2D. I didn't realize, it was hand drawn, animation, till you shown the rough sketches to clean up, final, and post. Damn! Your style brings back a lot of the 80s nostalgia :) thank you works, and effort!

My first encounter with R-Type was playing Super R-Type on the SNES. Looking back, I never felt like it had a lasting impact at the time. But for years later, the boss-battle music was stuck in my head and played in my mind as the default music for any boss battle encounter. It left a lasting impression with me without me realizing it, and I get honestly surprised when I talk to people who never played it before. I guess everyone was playing Gradius or something.

Well done! I love the treatment. Must have taken ages to do. It's an inspiration to new animators starting up especially since space battles, fights and shootouts are considered taboo for beginners to tackle. Think it's because you're over confident in your first years n dont know your limits lol.

Too be honest almost ALL aliens from 16-bit games have a nasty design thank god the graphic is in 16-bit cuz if they were made with the best modern day graphic some of them would looks like pure nightmare fuel and would put the thing from the horror movie of the same name and the creatures from the cthulhu mythos too shame

Awesome job with this.... the end result looks fantastic. :) I absolutely love the carpet design you made... I'm guessing you used reference for that because it's exactly the same design of carpet I've seen in older arcades. All those squiggles and lightning bolts and swirls.... awesome detail there. :) You definitely did the R-Type franchise justice with your animation. Did you reach out to get permission to make this, or you just went ahead and made it? Do you know if the creators of R-Type have seen your homage?

Maxon CINEMA 4D Studio (i.e. what Otaking is using), Houdini, Autodesk Maya, Blender etc. All such programs like these are at our disposal but i take it, its the artist and the ability behind their vision i.e. *Passion* that yields results like yours on any animation project right?! Cheers man, always can seriously learn alot from your endeavors!

this game is like a ghost to me. I had a ps2 with this game but it always crashed at some point of the game. For many years I forgot the name, but only last year I found it. It's so nostalgic, a weird part of my childhood of I game I could never finish.

I want more modern video games that look basically like this 3D cartoon style done right. Dragon Ball FighterZ is one of the few games that basically gets that look largely right, but so many games would look stunning using the same approach, especially modern VR games where the simple clean look of traditional animation done in this pseudo 3D style would just be a perfect fit.
