Always liked the 924. In 1987 I drove both new Mazda rx-7 and the 1987 924s. Wound up buying the rx-7. Both were nice!

When I read the title of this video, I had to watch... Now i am a sub'r! Great car! I bought my 924s (87) 6 months ago and man what a great all around daily driver for a guy like myself. In my collection is a 1987 Jaguar XJS V-12, the 1987 Porsche 924s, and a 1985 4-speed manual transmission Corvette. I may have accidentally created the best daily driver collection (for myself anyway). The deep rumble of the V8 Vette with all the time torque and terrible rear end handling (sideways fun), the Jag with plenty of power and a perfect mesh of luxury/sport touring, and the 924 seems to bring it all together. When I want a change from the Vette I go to the 924, when I want a change from driving the Jag I go to the 924. I think with a small aftermarket turbo kit, this car will be even more amazing. Thanks for taking time to read this! I just love Retro 80's drives... I just need an 84 Audi quatro for the bad weather days...

Glad to See the 924 Porsche alive and well....A Unique Sports Car it was...Unlike it's Usual Brother...The 911..

Uhhh its not a 924. Its a 924S its only a 924 from the body. Its a faster. Lighter. 944. A 924 had a audi 2.0 engine until 83 when the 924 was discontinued until 87-88. The 924S is faster then a 944. With same engine that was detuned 10hpw. (The first and only 2 year made 924 with a real porsche engine) the 2.5l porsche built and engineered engine only came in the 924S not a 924. But with 10 less hpw. The 924S handled better then the 944. Was a 10th of a second faster. This car. And all 924S 87-88 cars will become stupid expensive and rare in next 4 years watch.

The block of the earlier model did make it into a VW van eventually, but it started life as a Daimler Benz engine. Also fitted to Horch,Audi,AMC..........and VW. Its a very robust unit especially with its Porsche cylinder head. No-one says the Sierra Cosworth has a Transit engine. Now that I think about it, what about the BMW F1 engines that were running 1500 bhp with engine blocks they got from scrapyards!? Rant over, I should get out more

Cool Porsche! My favourite is the 928s but I like these 924s too.

I've always loved the 924S, with the proper Porsche engine in it. I just so wished I'd bought one, back when they were still just seen as a poor relation to the 911, and nobody wanted them. A friend of mine used to regularly buy these for well under a grand in the late 90's, good ones too. But now 911 prices have gone stratospheric and 928's aren't far behind, people started seeing these for what they were, a perfectly respectable entry into Porsche ownership, so obviously prices are starting to reflect this

I picked up another 924s after selling one a few years back. They are awesome city and highway cars. Excellent both at lower speeds and highway speeds. Im guessing you need to do your own work. Mechanics either won't work on them, or supposed experts on the car are not..

163bhp for the later model 924S
@ljt30842 жыл бұрын
The 163hp 924s (final year model) has the 944 camshaft and reworked cylinder head. It was actually a fraction of a second faster 0-60 time than the 944 due to it being a lighter car and quicker than the turbo version which also suffered lag. (944 flared panels added to the bodyweight). Porsche never made a point of telling customers this because the 944 model was a bigger seller in the states. The early 2.0l 924 (Audi L4 engine) did poorly in sales being underpowered and tainted the 924 brand in North America to the end of its production. Had the buyers known the more expensive 944 was a slower 0-60 time than the late model 924S, unit sales would have dropped on that iteration too. Porsche sales departments were told to keep quiet. Not the only time VW Audi Porsche have all used this marketing ploy to aid sales of one lesser model over another. VW did a similar thing when the Corrado 16V was released. It sold poorly so they claimed it was faster than the Golf 16V which was cheaper retail price, more practical, sold more units but was planned to be phased out. In reality both were fairly identical 0-60. Corrado lost money for VW on every unit that was sold due to higher production costs/new tooling, less practical car so they had to boost sales with some manipulating of the truth. Eventually they introduced the VR6 version to try to recover sales units but still the Golf mk2 outsold it. I trained as an apprentice mechanic at a VAG dealership late 80's. Worked on many 924S and 944. My father still owns a late 1988 924S. Still has the rare Mercedes space saver wheel, not the heavy VW LT28 van spare wheel the earlier S models were issued. Another ploy to shave weight off. Only 106 924S left roadworthy in England today and prices are climbing again. Great well balanced pocket rockets that outlast any vintage 911 in British climate due to 1980's Galvanised panels and far better handling.

924S = 1130 kg (924 2.0 = 1080 kg), 1986 model = 148 bhp, 1988 model = 158 bhp ! Keep the facts right ;)

@nboy73 жыл бұрын
I think technically, they started in 1986.5
@jasonrodriguez4633 жыл бұрын
@@nboy7 I think you are correct. My parents bought an 87 in 86.5 but was there an actual 86 model?
@nboy73 жыл бұрын
@@jasonrodriguez463 Well it would depend on how the car was registered in each respective country. An 86.5 could be registered as a 1986 car in some countries but it could be an MY1987 car. It would be hard for anybody other than the original owners to know unless you check the VIN. Most people will just use the registered year for the car model year. Does your family still own that 924 S ? Is be keen to know what it’s been like running one lately.
@jasonrodriguez4633 жыл бұрын
@@nboy7 I understand . I had thought the 924s was only made for 2 years..Yes we still have it
