This game is largely the reason I became a history buff and care about technical things/realism. When most of my peers were playing Game Cubes or something, my grandpa - a pilot - sat me down with this bad boy and taught 5-year-old me how to (virtually) dogfight. Good memories!!

The "Chuck Yeager," one was a hoot as you could mix-n-match different plane eras. Biplane vs. jet? Yup, go nuts!

Microprose has been brought back in full swing. They slightly remastered their classic ‘B-17: The Mighty 8th’ but didn’t touch the engine, so its still the same look. But also a completely new game ‘B-17: the bloody 100th’

Dcs world and war thunder and a few others have kinda taken there player base but it would be nice to see these newer games pay some respect to this old gem

There is nothing like some of the older classics like this one and it would be good if they could remaster some more these older games like they did with Tomb Raider recently.

I started playing this around 1998, and am still playing it on a 20 year old Windows XP laptop. Sadly there is no way to play it on Windows 10 or 11. I got a 22" monitor, keyboard, mouse, and my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro connected to that old laptop and it plays just fine.

I wondered why I couldn't hit the planes further away, so machine guns gave limited range. So I presume the cannons have the same sort if range?

@@mad4games65 Yes Sir, cannons shoot even slower rounds. All in all, 250 yards should be a good shooting distance but I don't know if this game simulates guns' range accurately

i vividly remember this cfs1 from windows xp days. cfs1 is by the most classic and immersive of all combat games/sims out there.. there is something about cfs1 that draws you into the game like a magnet.. probably un-copyable atmosphere and realistic perception of aerial fighting.. oh, also there is the most realistic gun sound effect which came with this cfs1 too.. but i can't play cfs1 on windows 10. anybody know how to make cfs1 run on windows 10 ???
