Retro Legacy by me (7*) | A Generation Retro REMAKE

I started working on this level way back when ‪@GDColon‬ made his video about why it sucks. I simply always liked it and thought it had some neat ideas - and while I did retrospectively realize that it was quite poorly executed in the end, I still liked the level.
So, I made the decision to start working on this. For whatever reason, I then started decorating it. I had little faith that I would actually complete the process, since I rarely ever do, but somehow, some way, after many long breaks, I managed to finish this - and even before 2.2 released and invalidated all of my efforts.
I am super happy with the end product, and even if I don't manage to get it rated, I will be extremely proud that this will go down as my last 2.1 level.
Dedicated to every person who has ever loved or hated Generation Retro, but first and foremost, I dedicate this level to ArathhSA, as a sort of apology for all of the unfair hate he has gotten over the years.

That's the thing though. There was potential in that bright little kid's imagination. He just didn't know how to properly bring it to life - which is where all of these remakes come into play. I think the reason is that I first experienced the level as a young kid, possibly similar in age to ArathhSA. So, I wasn't bothered by the blatant flaws, because the level captured my childhood imagination, and it made me sort of fill in the blanks. That aspect was only part of the total changes made in this level. A lot of it were also just things that you directly pointed out as flaws. So again, thank you for making that video. It never would have occured to me to make this otherwise, but now that I've done it, I feel so proud of what I've managed to create.

This level really unlocked the hidden potential Generation Retro had tucked away beneath its poor design decisions and everything. I love how it's dedicated to the haters as well, it's a nice touch and as a Generation Retro -hater- disliker myself, I approve of it. One issue I have with it is that the ''decoy'' (As Colon wonderfully called it) boss is the main focus of the level and ''CEO of Generation Retro'' isn't shown a bit. Not an issue though, I'll take it as a stylized decision rather than an oversight.

Yes, about that decoy alien, it was a conscious, artistic decision. In this version, the roles are a little different. The "CEO of Generation Retro" is the blue alien, whereas the original main red guy is cut entirely. His role is now played out by the "decoy alien". Here he's not a decoy, he's a virus that rapidly grows to power and takes over the game for himself, taking it away from the good guy CEO. That's the general idea anyway. I used the Decoy alien's design for the main boss here as I thought it was a good idea to have the design also be different between the good guy and the bad guy, not just the colors. And since I've already yapped long enough, I might as well add the tidbit that the pose the Boss strikes when he attacks is not actually from Space Invaders and is custom made by me, and I think it fits right in. Glad you liked the level :)

Now this one looks fire, just finished the original today and let me say, that one sucks (now i understood why everyone disliked it)...but on the other hand this is pretty damn good, from decorations to optimization and that fricking alien trap is now finally readable (😂) alongside many other faith jumps no longer existing.
