My daughter was born in 1983, I had an original G-Shock about 9 months later we where at a McDonald I took off my watch for her to play with and by the time we got home I realize my watch was missing it was left at McDonald's probably on the floor. Until now, I now have a new one.

I own both. The 5000r screen is miles better. There’s no ghosting like the 5610u which is so bad at any angle other than straight on. Also the buttons on 5000r are actually pleasant to use, 5610u has no give and very hard to press. This is annoying over time. You can actually hear the 5000 alarm too…the 5610u is too quiet for me. Lastly the 5000r uses softer resin in band and is screw down case back. It feels like a way more premium watch. Multiband 6 is not cool enough feature to warrant keeping when the screen sucks so bad from solar panel IMHO.

@pkmachinegun if you are real G´s fan you will never write this 😀 Cause you will know that 5000 series is better in every way. 10 years Lithium battery life (little correction, the official specs stated 5 years, but it seems that it can go longer) New module 3576 Screw case back More flexible band Flash Alert, … Made in Japan (Yamagata). Your mentioned 5610 is made in Thailand with tough plastic band.

I had one in 1983 got the 5200c hero in 84 and the 5600c speed in 87 and will be getting one of these when released here in the UK! One thing i dont understand is why the need to change the wording for the waterproofing!

Seemingly most of Casio's newer digital modules have had the viewing angle optimized for about 15-30° below center, with the screens washing out when viewed dead-on. Couldn't even begin to guess why they'd choose to make this change.

That's the angle one usually looks at the watch when wearing it the wrist. My 5000R is optimised the same and I love it, it is very clear at the angles I normally look at it.

@CasualWatchReviews Yes, it's a nice watch, I like the black coated steel case, and the resin band is very flexible and soft, compared to my other square g-shocks,and if I remember correctly it is also made in Japan. The dial is not as colorful as this one in the video but it is ok.

I totally caught the analog bug when I started wearing gshocks like over a decade ago. The only fully digital one I had was the 7900 with the tide and moon graph I never figured out how to operate that one. But have since gone through a few analogs and now use completely analog grb300.

I had every intention of purchasing this watch but I ultimately backed out If I didn't own the 5610 already then I would definitely be getting this watch but I just personally couldn't justify paying more for essentially the same watch only gaining a metal case and losing tough solar and multi band 6 but it's a awesome watch regardless 👍🏻👍🏻

This is for the G Shock collectors. I am gonna stick with the 5610U as it looks very similar but with Multiband 6 and solar but for less money. And for me I like the fact it’s lightweight, and sits better on my wrist due to the flat backplate.

Hey, great question. They don't put protective film on any of the new watches because of their environmental initiative. The only plastic is around the warranty card everything else is paper. There was no film even on the back. I shot a lot of macro that should show there is no on the screen also

Nostalgia wise this is the model you would want but practicality I will stick with my GW M5610 Solar MB which is a solid homage to the original.

Looked at one in the Shibuya flagship store and was going to get it until I tried it on. The screen when looking straight on was oddly transparent, I’m not sure the reasoning behind this or maybe a factory flaw? Can someone answer why they made it like this? It was a deal breaker, opted for the 5610.

It’s supposed to perform exactly the same. It’s made from oil like plastic, just oils derived from plants. But honestly I guess only time will tell. I know Casio is all in on this material now so I’m confident they have fully tested it.

The DW-5040PG-1 was the previous recreation of the DW-5000C. Couple of differences in button functionality and display labeling, metal finishing, light color, and case shape. Also, the DW 5040PG 1 is a limited edition. Not sure the DW-5000R is.

Most of G-Shocks are ok but some digital Casios have their LCD filter positioned in the way that with polarized glasses you see only a black screen when wearing a watch jn your left hand. Thank you.

The biggest difference between the original and the reproduction is inside the watch, the original had a floating module and this one does not. However on the outside it's quite accurate, at a distance of one meter nobody would notice the difference between one and the other.

I bought my first G around 1983 it was a DW5700. I still have the case the resin rotted and screws fused to case. I bought a 35 anniversary remake for close to $100. It’s great as I had worn the original for over 20 years. That said I love the features on my combi bracelet G with solar and atomic for around $150. I would not pay $200 for these anniversary money grabs.

The EL backlight is so good. I love the one on my F105. But I do know that they have to specially treat the display for the EL to work properly and that treatment doesn’t last as long as an LED backlight does. I have the 5610u and the world time and I’m really pleased with the LED. I totally see where you’re coming from though.

I have a GMW-B5000TFC. This one will go nicely with it's all steel older brother. Just got an email (07-01-2025 1:00 CET) that the watch is available in Europe, and placed an order immediately. The order limit is 1, I wanted to buy two, one for my brother, but I guess he's out of luck (^_-).

Nicht nur das Display. Die ganze Uhr ist scheisse. Ich kann den ganzen Hype nicht nachvollziehen. Zudem ist es keine Hommage. Zu viele Unterschiede zum Original! Dafür noch 200 Euro zu verlangen für eine Uhr die nicht mal Solar und Funk hat ist einfach unverschämt!
