I love the square G-Shocks and have all 3 of these and the stainless GMWB5000. The quality of the GW-5000 is so far beyond the other 2. They all have their place. Awesome watches!

Thanks for the video. Even with the old module the DW-5600 would display the current time in chronograph or timer mode, which the older GW-M5610 and GW-5000 wouldn't. Now the updated GW-M5610U and the GW-5000U do display the current time in other modes but the auto-repeat for the timer is missing and there is no flash alarm feature like the DW-5600U has. That said, I too think that the GW-M5610U would be a sensible choice. In some countries the DW-5600 can be bought for really not much but in Europe there is not a very big gap in term of cost between the DW-5600 and the GW-M5610.

What a GREAT review! Thank you for your details. Like Gameonslayer below, I have the middle one as well. While an afterthought, wasn't initially sure that the additional $60 was worth it over the DW-5600U. HOWEVER, understanding the solar function and MB6, I did the math on replacement batteries over time along with the MB6 I think it WAS worth it. I still may pick up a DW-5600U as well. I agree that its display is a bit clearer without all the printed shenanigans on the screen.

Nice video! You didn’t specifically articulate this point, but in addition to the thickness differences, the length (or “lug-to-lug”) is shorter on the 5610, which also contributes to it wearing more easily on a smaller wrist. The screw down case back feature on the high end version is nice, and virtually guarantees that when (if) the solar battery needs replaced in 15 or so years, you won’t have to worry about compromising the water resistance if there is a misstep in fiddling with the standard case back on the others.

Thank you! Great point. I only found out about the L2L distance while editing. I included some screenshots with dimensions 😁 Definitely the 5610 wears the best on my wrist and the 5000 looks the very best. The 5600 is a no brainer when on sale 👌🏻

Good comparison. The 5000u should really come with the Casio combi bracelet. The individual, moving links and the micro adjust positions in the clasp mean that you can find a good fit. The rubber strap, although more soft and comfortable than found on the cheaper models, is made for a thin/flat square. The deeper/thicker body of the 5000u doesn’t work as well with it. As it turns out, I own both the 5610u and the 5000u so I bought a combi bracelet for the 5000u and used it’s softer, more comfortable strap on my 5610u. Both watches are improved by that arrangement. OK, the reviewer (and perhaps others here) might not like the even greater weight of the 5000u with the resin and steel link combi bracelet (approximately 113gm). It carries it well though due to the better balance and fit of that combination. Bear in mind that the all-metal square series in stainless steel top out at around 153+gm (about the same as a steel diving watch like a Rolex Submariner) so the 5000u with a combi bracelet is still very manageable.

Thanks for sharing these valuable insights! I also noticed the thinness of the soft strap of the 5000u.
@jemandthemystery16 күн бұрын
@@GadgetsforGentlemen It is thinner but (apparently) it is made of polyurethane, not resin like the chesper models.

@@GadgetsforGentlemen I agree in terms of value for sure as it shares the same module. When I want either a very light on the wrist experience (active, sporty stuff where I don't want it to feel in the way - or even feel it all(!)) or a great watch for modding I choose the 5610u. It's great and that's why I own several of them for different applications. The good thing about having exactly the same module (3495) across different watches is that it is the same muscle memory operations. You don’t have to think about it. Casio squares with this module are the only watches I use so there is always a seamless change between watches. If I could only have one "desert island" or "do it all" watch, the 5000u with the combi bracelet is just class without the blinginess and weight (and coldness in sub zero temperatures) of all-steel watches. It's a private indulgence, not a public one and is the "sweet spot" watch that I wear the most.
@GadgetsforGentlemen16 күн бұрын
@jemandthemystery thanks for sharing. I agree regarding the module. So much easier to use the same buttons instead of thinking what button to press. I would add adding a F91W for the days where you really want a super lightweight, thin and discrete digital watch.

Thank you for this very interesting video. I own the 5610 - it is so great with the solar power and the radio controlled time setting. The only thing I do not like is that after some time the strap begins to look shiny and a little bit cheap. So one day I will give me the gift and buy the 5000.

Can you do a comparison of the GW-M5610U-1 vs. the GW-M5610-1? Trying to understand the difference that the "U" makes between them. Thanks.
@GadgetsforGentlemen6 күн бұрын
Hi, I don’t have that piece to demonstrate. The key difference to my understanding is the display. With the “U version” you can still see the time when you use the stopwatch and or timer. Also you can change the layout of the date. Hope it helps. For me the “U” is the “better” version.
@TheBrian92102 күн бұрын
To add to this, the older version has a blue EL backlight while the newer "U" version has a white LED that can be set to light up for either 1.5 or 3 seconds when pressed. It can also automatically light up when you raise your wrist in the dark to look at the time which I'm unsure if the older model can do.
@deadonit19672 күн бұрын
@@TheBrian9210 Thank you very much. What's interesting is that my new GW-M5610 has the selection of 1.5 or 3 seconds AS WELL AS auto-illumination when you raise your wrist. What is VERY nice is that this light ONLY comes on when it is dark. If you are in normal light and auto-illumination is turned on, it will NOT turn on. So it is actually detecting the environmental lighting levels which is very cool. I was surprised that my non 'U" version had these features.

It is such a thin red line in all honesty. When I look at mine, on the daily, I never think "look at this red watch of mine," It is mostly sleek looking on my wrist anyway. You must already know this but there is a blue line version as well, and a negative display version as well. Cheers!

It's a very good video, but there are a few things I would like to add. You didn't mention how frustratingly difficult it is to press the buttons on the GW-5000U. If you use it a lot, it will bother you. The GW-M5610 and the GW-5000U have exactly the same module, 3495. That this module is packed in a metal case and therefore charged two and a half times as much is ridiculous. I say this despite the fact that I also have such a watch, and also the older model, the GW-5000-1. We watch freaks are not normal, are we? What you say about the LCD display is not true at all . The DW-5600UE has by far the best display. Hold it or any other watch in your hand, rotate them slowly, and see how much better its viewing angle is. The DW-5600UE beeps much louder than the other two. This is also a very important difference. Although it doesn't know the time zones, I like it even more because I don't have to step pointlessly when switching between modes. It is important to mention that the DW-5600UE can flash when it wakes up, which is a very nice feature, I use it. The outer cover of DW-5600UE and GW-5000U is interchangeable, the same size. I like the DW-5600 in a larger case than the GW-M5610, but with narrower numbers and a much more harmonious overall image. The GW-5000U is already different, because the larger numbers already look good in the larger case.
