Well fuck. Wasn't expecting to cry while watching a midwinter video. My dad was the one that got me and my brother into the hobby. I'll always remember him taking us to games day and him building us a baneblade tank each out of cardboard. He died three years ago, and never got the chance to meet my daughter. Very well chosen words about loved ones and nostalgia - they really hit home. @MidwinterMinis I am sorry about your dad and that he wasn‘t able to meet your kids. Such things are often (mistakenly) taken for granted in life, but everything is quite fragile really and one can be thankful if all is alright when waking up each morning. All the best!

I never comment on videos, because who is going to read them anyway, but here I am. As a similar age, I got the same box set one year for Christmas and was hooked. This is a beautiful video in commemoration of your dad, and it brought me to tears. While I’ve not lost my dad, he is in hospital as I type this, recovering from an operation which saved his life. I moved away from home to England 12 years ago and I miss him dearly. Nostalgia of my happy childhood memories, similar to yours shown in the video hit me like a truck. As a father to a 3.5 year old boy, I can’t wait to share my love of miniatures with him too. Maybe he’ll have some sort of similar reflections of me when he’s old and I’m gone, that way, a part of me will live on in him, just as your dad does in you.

I've never felt the need to be 15 and painting my first warhammer again so badly. This really hit me in the feels Guy. We are pretty much the same age and got into the hobby at a similar time. Although I’m a Guard man, the very first GW minis I ever painted were mono pose space marines, brought for me by my Mum at the local high street model shop. Funny enough I went for the colour scheme in this video (well, my approximation of it anyway. 😄) I’ve always had a soft spot for Blood Angels ever since then. I’ve got two girls myself, one of which my Mum never got the chance to meet. She died a couple of years ago and even my eldest was too young to remember her. So I feel your pain and the desire to connect the generations and keep their memory alive. Love the channel and your work mate. Your Dad would be proud.

These Blood Angels look amazing! Honestly, the super-saturated, cartoonish look of the magazines and catalogs of the 90’s always looked better to me than the “official“ painting schemes, maybe because I always thought of miniatures as toys (I never played miniature war games, but I liked to paint tanks.) “Nostalgia is the ache of happiness remembered”-wow that’s good. I lost my dad 30 years ago (he was 57, the same age that I am now). Because he was a history buff and an educator, he loved the WW2 models and minis that I painted for my dioramas. My best memories are of him teaching me about history, especially about WW2 battles and the tanks and planes used by all sides. I learned so much from him that I tested out of courses at school when teachers realized that they weren’t teaching me anything. He was on the autism spectrum (as am I) and we had a difficult time connecting emotionally, and I ended up equating knowledge sharing with love. This video has reduced me to tears.

We lost my dad 5 years ago as well and I got back into the hobby shortly afterwards. Now painting is my go to method of getting through whatever I'm struggling with. I think a lot of us have similar stories of discovering warhammer with loved ones; growing up and growing apart from it and then ultimately returning as adults and finding very powerful comfort in it for the nostalgia and memories it holds. This was a great video Guy

Nostalgia hit my greasy heart real hard with this one. As a kid growing up in the 90's, my dad was also the catalyst for my hobby way back. He got me into building, painting, making basic terrain, while he's still alive he's moved on from the hobby decades ago. But those bonding moments over building and painting the third edition 40k set are memories I'll never forget. Same with flipping through the color section of the rulebook, white dwarf issues and dreaming about minis. Every start of the month he took me to the local video rental store to get a blister or squad box, some paint and candy. He even let me keep my allowance since he saw how much joy it brought. This video brought me to tears, but happy tears. Thanks Guy; for rekindling old feelings and love for oldhammer. And I know I'll be spending time with my sons over the hobby if they ever feel like giving it a shot.

As a random non-gamer who dabbled in painting 40k and Warhammer back in the 90s, seeing blood angels as they did in the magazines is just bringing back so many memories. Thank you Guy, I can't wait to see more ❤️

I'm not crying, you're crying. That was an incredibly tribute to the hobby, the faction and to your father. Thank you so much for sharing something so raw to you with us all.

Truly heartfelt. I'm very much with you. My first models were the 2nd edition box set and my first ever game was with my grandad on his kitchen floor and I painted Blood Angels too, so seeing these and the meaning they had to you it's quite profound. To echo the sentiments of your video with my own experience.......miss you grandad.

Gorgeous. Really goes to show how painting as a hobby connects us across time and generations.

Such a brilliant searies. You should be proud of what you have done and all you have achieved. Nostalgia did it for me too, second edition was such a part of my life that returning to it 25 plus years later still has the young child in me giddy with excitement. Don't stop the searies. There is so much love for second edition it would be a shame not to get a dreadnought painted up instead of the cardboard cut out. That's the model that truly did it for me.

Brought a tear to my eye Guy. Sorry for your loss mate, you done a fantastic job on those minis they looked exactly how i wished mine would look like when i was a little fella. This hobby is exactly as you said the closest thing to a conversation with my younger self. Thank you for this beautiful video.

These retro videos bring me joy. I have no nostalgia for old warhammer, but I love the art and feel of the old models. The video of the old books is really awesome too.
