I remember uploading games through IrDA to my dad's T300. They were in a strange format called Mophun, a bit like J2ME but more primitive. It's really hard to find these games anywere nowadays, but it might make for a pretty interesting video.

I remember hearing about these. I do have a T610, one of may favourites. Thanks for the suggestion.

@@JanusCycle It turns out there are now open source emulators and archive projects for Mophun, I'd be supper happy if you made a video about that :)

Mophun platform in those years even surpassed java and was better in many respects. I remember being very fond of playing games like Alien Scum, Deep Ayss, Honey Cave, etc. on t300, t310, t610 and similar phones, and at that time there were few high-quality and cool such games on java. It's only later on java that a lot of interesting games appeared already during the later models, and before that Mophun was better than java in 2002, 2003, 2004. Fortunately, these games are very easy to find and the emulator too.

@@hypercube2417 You're right, I've since checked and many sites with these games have popped up since I last tried to revive that old T300. Alien Scum has taken hours of my life from me as a kid and I'm ok with that. Indeed for 2002 that was some extremely advanced mobile gaming, while Java was very primitive at the time.

Wow, never heard of this. J2ME is based around Java, but it seems like Mophun is based on C?

My dad's company phone circa 99, 00 was a very similar looking Ericsson as the first one. The cover had broken off though! He could still make calls since the mic was in the body, but IIRC there wasn't a key lock because the phone UI expected the cover to do that job. It got replaced by one of a long string of Nokias in 01. I don't know if his one didn't have games, or if he just never looked. It took him a few years to find brick breaker on his early work BlackBerry!

Discussing Tetris elsewhere and came here to reference my most played iteration - on the T68m! Interesting isn't it? When Sony merged the brands, the T68i with removable camera appeared. Now, one of the most important aspects of my existing (and, may I say, beautiful T68m with its pewter coloured earpiece and rubberised back cover) phone was actually the gaming on the go. People scoffed but, look at us all now? 🤷‍♂️ Anyway, I had the T68 and remember being super envious when a friend acquired the snazzy and much more modern looking T68i. However, this all came to a collapse for me when I used it as I was horrified to find a stripped back selection of games and all my hidden games... GONE! I actually spent most of my time on the hidden titles but especially whilst trying to crush my fastest time on the tile game. THAT... was addictive. So yeah, I never did upgrade my T68 software for that exact reason 👍 Prior to the mighty T68, I had the T28, T29 (where'd my flip button go??) and also the funky looking T39 before arriving at the T68 💪 One of my fave handsets ever. Wasn't cheap either! 😦

That story is awesome, thank you. I had earlier Ericsson models with Tetris. But I always wanted a T68m with original software. It took a long time, but I finally have one :)

So cool! So the original t68m firmware had its advantages over the t68i :)

another thing.. you complain about the games being too hard to play while on every game you set the difficult level on medium.. new game means easy first..
@JanusCycle
@JanusCycle 4 жыл бұрын
This is more of a personal preference. Most games default to Medium. I prefer to start at medium. Perhaps I could have described them as being 'not much fun' rather than 'too hard' :) Thanks for your comments.

I'm enjoying the channel so far but can you *PLEASE* stop making your intros and outros 5x louder than the rest of your video? The extreme difference in loudness keeps startling me every time the algorithm shows me one of your videos. Especially given how soothing your voice is compared to the harsh electronic tune you've picked. I hope your more recent videos have addressed this issue.
