Love the rack gear rundown! I still have my rack system i used in the 90’s , a Carvin quadx4 is a 4 channel 5 effect’s loops tube preamp, in the loops are gsp21 legend 4 rockman moduals an art reverb unit tuner and power supply and a carvin ts 100 tube power amp. It all still works and sounds great. Thanks for the video!

Now is use alot of pedals and a gec9 switcher and a surround sound sterio 4 tube amp rig. But i just play in my garage. But there is 54 12 “ speakers in here. Lol. 4x12 and 2x12 cabs hooked to all the different amps., Carvin \ Kiesel guitars play like butter. Love the channel!!

I've never seen so many Maxon pedals in a board! And other than tubescreamer too. And love the HM-2 finding its way into this kind of rack and playstyles. It has that really hard mid boost eq curve (I think +20 dB) that can destroy things to distortion by itself, but doesn't act like big muff hiding the guitar out of mix. Very nice stuff. Also funny to see stuff like Mesa preamps just sitting in the shelf and synergy modeller in the rack. Perhaps a sign of how convenient the modern modellers are. Very sweet episode, very helpful for many. And you don't get to hear these units and sounds too often, but with explanation of how they're set too. Seems like every new upload is a good day to come to youtube. Also very fitting to see the HM-2 there, because today is my day of getting some of that 5G HM-2 chainsaw in my bloodstream \,,/

Great stuff, I love the old rack stuff. It was still kinda the thing when I started playing out live in 1993. I've went back & fourth since but now use both rack & pedals in my live rig. The HM-2 is a great boost. I'm always telling people that pedal has more than one use.

Definitely getting a lot of coveted '80's-'90's tones with that behemoth system. I spy Michael Landau, Lukather, Van Halen, Robert Fripp to name a few. Any chance you could post a wiring diagram/schematic of your system? I'm in the process of building something similar, but can't quite afford the hefty $$$ for PCM70'S. Love your stuff and appreciate you posting your soundscape adventures.

Nice. I am also a big fan of the 90ies racks. But as I built my rack I faced some important routing configuration problems. 1. Just a parallel path is not enough. You need to combine parallel and seriell in the post fx. Here is an example: you want reverb on the direct sound. And you want reverb on the FX sound. You want the chorus (and the detune) feed the delay but you want chorus and detune also go direct, in parallel with the direct signal (danger of phase issues). Where do you insert the detune? Before or after the chorus? Or in parallel to the chorus? It makes a big difference. BTW great playing! (Better than your sound.)
@cliftonwright7081
@cliftonwright7081 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah this iteration had some effects in series with the preamp/two notes live but all my time and pitch stuff was in parallel unless it was dual effect algorithm from a single unit which is kind of the easiest way to sidestep the routing option Armageddon. I mostly use these effects units when I mix so I can route stuff however I want with a patchbay or in the daw/with sends and returns on my interface
@NikolausBrocke
@NikolausBrocke 2 жыл бұрын
@@cliftonwright7081 I do a lot of routing in my studio like you described. Doing it all with the rack is a lot of work. It's a challenge to play live and switch all with just one step. And you must be able to adapt the sound to the venue where you are playing.

Hey Clifton I was wondering where your stereo effect returns are plugged into. Back into the Roland than stereo summed to power amp? If so why did you use the first channel on the roland to be sent out the aux to the rane. would returning back to the roland not cause a feedback loop? why not split the torpedo signal 6 ways, using the rane first, than to fx and return to roland and use that aux to blend in another reverb or something? Just trying to wrap my head around this, cause im in the process of shopping for a line mixer. thanks!
@cliftonwright7081
@cliftonwright7081 2 жыл бұрын
The only audio that goes out through the aux send is dialed in per channel with an individual aux send knob (there’s two per channel on the M-120). That’s why there’s no feedback issues. However, you are correct; I could just as easily split the output of the torpedo 6 ways. I need to find a nice fully balanced line mixer eventually. I just like the M-120 and, lately, the Boss MX10 because they’re small, have tons of channels and sound good. I do need something that operates at full +4 line level and has balanced I/O to make the most of my Lexicons.

@mikemion2527 2 жыл бұрын
@@cliftonwright7081 gotcha. yea the m-120 looks awsome i can see why its hard to let go. its hard to find mixers with 2 aux sends. not to mention made in japan rather than the crap they make in china or Indonesia nowadays. was thinking about buying one used but dont know cus there pretty aged by now. would you still recommend one today or should i buy a newer modern mixer?
