Nice video. Have always, loved the white imac's the 20 inch G4, the 20 inch G5, and the 24 inch Intel model. So, several year's ago had to complete my collection by picking up on Ebay the same system you are highlighting. Enjoy using all of its ports at the same time with a mixture of items that use the USB 2.0 ports with other devices that make use of the desktops Fire-wire 400 port and Fire-wire 800 port. Prefer to use the older operating system OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard because with Rosetta, I am still able to use Front Row with its matching white apple remote control and all my vintage OS X Power PC programs are able to still run great (i.e. Apple Works, IBM's Via Voice, etc.). In addition, it also fun to be able to watch and record over the air TV shows in HD using the Elgato EyeTV 500 box along with its remote control.

4/21/2020 I also picked up a 2006 24" iMac in great shape with OS Snow Leopard on it and was able to upgrade it to OS Lion the max OS for this computer. I had minor issues finding a current internet browser version that works well in 2020 with it so I also installed Parallels to allow me to run MS Windows 7 Pro. The 3 GB Memory surprising works well at the useability of the iMac.Seeing early versions of the OS changes over the years was both familiar, features and the new hardware useability still somewhat current in today's world. I also have the white plastic iTunes remote that sticks to the lower right edge of the case with a magnet to hold it in place. I would be interested in what upgrades are available to do more in 2020. The design is classic Apple desire, but the video CPU issues cause of internal high heat are also part of it too. Update I upgrade the memory to 4 GB of DDR2 ram iMac only has room for 2 and I guess with OS Lion it allowed the computer to use all 4GB, not sure if I can go any higher. The computer itself looks like new and the screen is still good in 2020, but with all the changes in Tech, the internet and software it is starting to show it's age when on the internet which is to bad. The computer itself should be great for normal stuff like word processing, basic photo /video editing, listening to music or watching video disc, e-book reading, iMovie and Garage Band.

You can also try to install OS X Mountain Lion or Mavericks on this iMac with the help of MacPostFactor. I think these versions still have GPU acceleration with the integrated Radeon X1600. But i would recommend to try it on a second partition first (you can split the harddrive in Disk Utility even while Lion is running). That would make it even more usable for Web browsing ;)

Within my collection, I have the same system a white 24-inch Intel iMac running OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. The best current web browser, I use is Arctic Fox which works well on most internet sites. Also, installed is Apple Works, iLife '09. 'iWorks '09, Aperture 3, Libre Office, Bean, and Microsoft Office 2011.

Hey, you seems like a nice guy and not sure if you are still checking your KZbin channel. Anyway, searching over internet / KZbin in November 2024. How to get my personal 2006. Back in life. Long story short, it was on a desk for some time, and now after pressing power button - i have small light at the bottom on the front but only “ black screen” What do you think, what should I do, opening and replacing hard drive or changing memory … no idea, at the moment - Thanks if I got the answer.

hello! Somewhere in youtube i saw G3 iMacs upgraded to corei7 processors, becoming capable to run modern OS with the beauty of old days apple hardware. it is possible to put inside this wonderful machine the logic board of a 27 inch late 2009 iMac? Aluminium iMacs will never have the same look and feel that the 24 inches white iMac had.

I completely agree the white 20-inch G4 iMac, white 20-inch G5 iMac, and the white 24-inch iMac are more like a member of the family when you use them. While, the aluminium iMac models, just all feel like a work system at your desk in the office. The only exception is the space gray 27-inch iMac pro which, does make you look like a creative professional either working at home or in the office.

I had the same.browsers were not working.I installed linux.1080p youtube and netflix have arrived thanx for lubuntu 16.04 lts support.the hardest part was installing the nvidia card without support but I succeeded. Nice resto video by the way.

Anyone who can help me with this issue? I also get an 2006 iMac, can not reset the password too. I tried to follow the step from the video but I do not have another Mac to help me set up a startup flash disk!

You may be able to take out to a local computer shop and they may be able to restore the hard drive for you. If not, I know that on apples website you can download some older versions of macOS installers. However you may have to pay for the one you need. Hope this helps and good luck with it! I’m currently keeping an eye out for a good deal on these machines

You’re welcome just make sure that it’s compatible with your machine before you buy it. You may also be able to get something off eBay cheaper. Just if you reset the iMac it’ll wipe the hard drive clean

I bet this iMac belonged to a smoker. I'm pretty sure because my white iMac looked about the same in broad daylight...
