First off, Joliet (pronounced "The Joy Let", rhymes with toilet) is not a neighborhood of Chicago .Ha Ha I may have seen Morgue at the Thirsty Whale with Johnny Vomit in 92/93, but my memory is a little hazy from the lukewarm PBRs and THC and back in the day. I have not listened to this album in almost 25 years. I had this as a cassette copy and I don't remember if I ever seen the album cover. Anyways, thanks for reviewing this long forgotten local death metal album and I plan on jamming it tonight. Keep up the Retro Reviews.

Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! We call Toledo the "Stinky T below the Dirty D" since we're close to Detroit so I hear ya there lol. I was pretty much just making a joke about the proximity to Chicago though. I didn't know about this band until maybe a few years ago. My copy of this is from Dark Descent if I remember right and I had some people bring it up since I was a big fan of Broken Hope and Oppressor. This thing still holds up well though. It does start to get a bit off the rails on the back half but I dig the techy aspects on this.

Awesome review! This review brought back some good memories. They used to play shows with other local Illinois death metal bands around that time. They always stood out with a more technical brand of death metal. I bought a few Grindcore International albums at the time since they were actually located out of Illinois. Haven’t listened to this in years and will have to throw it on later

Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Dude, that's awesome you got to see them let alone be a part of that underground scene, man. I've always like the Chicago death metal/ extreme metal scene. Super underrated. I have the reissue of the album but they did a solid job with the remaster of it. Still sounds gritty and ugly but just a tad more clear.

Necrotic Nick- Same here honestly. I had this one on the list for one of these reviews for awhile and I decided why the hell not. Solid album. I really would have liked to have heard where they went from here.

Necrotic Nick- They really weren't around very long and I don't know if the album was promoted very well either. They did break up not long after this one dropped so they didn't get a sophomore release to build on.

@thrallsofmetal Plus as I was watching this you noted that this came out in 1995. That's not a good year for death metal. I. don't remember many great death metal albums that year besides Suffocation and Incantation who were a few bands left that didn't break up or start making weird records.
@thrallsofmetal
@thrallsofmetal 16 күн бұрын
Necrotic Nick- It came out in 1993 actually. They broke up in 1995. Still, 1993 was definitely when death metal's popularity was starting to slide a bit. There were still killer bands putting out stuff but the boom of death metal bands coming up in the scene was starting to shrink.
@derrickkowalewski9239
@derrickkowalewski9239 16 күн бұрын
@@thrallsofmetal I think death metal peaked in popularity in the summer of 92' then gradually died. By 93' there was still a vibrant hardcore scene in Buffalo, but for metal it went from shows every week to next to nothing.
