The reason you can't "press" your way out of the games is simple: It doesn't have any operating system to go with it.. It is NOT an emulator, but runs DIRECTLY from cartridge unlike the RetroCade which is an emulator. The Retro Trio + is more an actual NES/SNES/GENESIS combo, instead of a simple emulator. About the input lag it must be the controllers, because I've got both a NES and a Retro Trio Plus, with an original controller there is no difference, not on my machine after all.

This thing is meant for people that like to play old school cartridges . It's for collectors that wanna play in high definition on hardware it's never Frozen on me and I don't think it was ever advertised to reset the console by pressing any buttons n the controller ....that's what the reset button on the console is for .. for 80bucks it's awesome to play your cartridges

I'm a long time fan, but you're NOT the person to review this Elric. This is FOR COLLECTORS of older retro games, and want to play them on their new displays. The reason you're getting lag, is you need to turn game mode on, or turn off all the extra picture processing features on your HDTV. They add lag to the games due to picture processing. You can't ''get out of the game''. You can either select, Super Nintendo, Original Nintendo, or Genesis. This is for playing the game carts you already own.

Hey man, I really love your channel, but I have to say, this video was kind of a let-down in how you covered it. I have a few questions for you; Did you play it in game-mode on your TV? If so, did you notice an improvement in input latency? Did you try plugging it into a CRT with the RCA out to do a sanity check since there is no lag on CRT's?

I think this is more geared towards retro collectors who wants to save space on how many consoles they hook up rather than a rom box. I've seen systems that can do both tho 😮

As for your question about Rasberry pi and controllers,, you can litterally use any controller you want. There are various USB adapters for old-school controllers (even N64), as well as new controllers that are in the NES/SNES layout but support USB or even bluetooth. And Retro Pi (the OS you use) lets you map the buttons however you like.

Retrocade had arcade versions of the games and ports of the early systems. This is targeted for the folks that have retro game carts and old hardware that only have composite output. Since modern TVs are lacking that, more companies are trying to make new hardware with HDMI.

Good morning Elric, great review. I made my own emulator system with a Raspberry Pi and put it inside of an old NES cartridge. I currently use my old wired 360 controller, just because It works, but I also bought an NES and SNES USB controllers that work perfectly fine with it.

All 8Bitdo controllers and all bluetooth and USB controllers work on the newest version of raspberry pi... and the two systems you reviewed are hitting two different markets. That said, a system that was a combo of both would be cool but, usually people who have a ton of carts don't want a plug-and-play system.

I think this is fine for having a single system that plays multiple consoles if you have the cartridges, and no longer have the console. Not having built-in games is not the point of this machine. I'm not sure what you are complaining about "not taking you out of the game". What are you expecting? Original consoles never did that. The controllers not working however is a big issue if it's not a problem with using old controllers. I'm curious if you must use the specific controller for the console game you are playing. I think you went into this expecting something that this product wasn't intended for and slamming it for that.

Stopped watching as soon as you complained about there not being games installed on it. This isn't emulation it's actual hardware made for people with actual games.
