I feel warm and tingly inside remembering the 80s, but get extremely depressed knowing these times will probably never be back. I remember working at the local family owned grocery store. Most are gone and replaced by corporate monsters. People didn't totally hate each other back then. We were a cohesive society for the most part. 24-7-365 hate stream media has ruined it all.

I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Japanese-American. I'm looking for a "Christmas Jingle," and someone might have an idea: In late 1989 (I was in 11th grade), there was a Taco Time commercial, it was mostly instrumental, with a very nice Christmas jingle playing in the background. Then, in late 1998-early 1999, a company called International Jewelers used that SAME Christmas jingle in the background! I know this is a long shot, and you probably have to be in Washington or Oregon to even know what Taco Time is. But, I'm never amazed at what can be pulled up on the internet!
@unappealingundesirable2826 Жыл бұрын
To add: It begins with with the first 5-8 second of a "bell sound," and then it gets into the nice music. If anybody remembers the International Jewelers commercial from late 1998, the background voice says, "Jingle Bell.....Rock!" (no, the song is NOT "Jingle Bell Rock")

Oh yes! The Mcdonalds meals with pocket change …amazing back then you could get a meal for only $2.99. Today in 2023 it’s now $11.00 and minimum wage is still only $8.75. You can thank the rotten government for that. It was all about family and America then but today the kids want to take it all away. But all in all, boy! I want to go back and do it all over ....The 70’s and 80’s were my decades and they were the best years of my life. America was absolutely a different place back then. It was still a treat then to get 25 cents from mom and walk uptown to the gas station to get a Coca-Cola or Pepsi or to the ice cream shop and get a CMP ice cream. We truly did not lock our doors and stayed out till after dark with our bikes and on Halloween we all went trick-or-treating without our parents when we got older at night in the cold and it was great fun.. In the summer we played outside all day and all night, The only way my mom got us home to eat was a big brass bell she had outside the sliding glass doors that she would ring to get our attention to come home for dinner. I remember wonderful 4th of July celebrations going on picnics and then mom took us to the ball park and we laid on blankets to watch the fireworks. And of course Christmas and even though it was tuff for my mom raising us she always made sure we had a great holiday . Even Easter was special in America back then... as we got older we started to go see the movies and we really did have the best movies. Jaws, Close Encounters, , Raiders of the lost Ark, James bond, Star Wars, Star Trek, Aliens, Predator, planet of the apes, E.T, The terminator, The goonies, Friday the 13th, Batman, Back to the future . ...To name a few.....The TV show line up on the networks were fabulous ( this was before you got 500 channels like you do today and still nothing on is good) we had Dallas, knots Landing, Falcon crest, little house, The Waltons (No not the store that destroyed America). And every night of the week a network would compete and have for example, Monday night at the movies! Tuesday night at the movies ! and they would show a major movie release. We had real holidays were we all got together and enjoyed each other’s company. We ate dinner every night together and talked not shouted at each other. We had great stores that are all but gone now in 2023 and great movie theaters and of course the MALLS! It was not the 80’s without a Mall. My very first few jobs were at the mall. First Macdonald’s and then The Gap!. Yes sir those days were GREAT! and we were very lucky to have lived them .... today I don’t even see kids outside and everyone is in fear for safety from crazy people.... I don’t recognize America now..God Bless us all ! (If you can even say that anymore).

Here's the difference I notice in commercials from then and now: Back then, the commercials were based on family or others and today's commercials seem to be aimed at (or written by) hardcore narcissists. This would explain the absence of any heartfelt or sincere moments. Also, the music in today's commercials seems to be tired and stale recycled trash from every other commercial, e.g. the same tired light singer/songwriter or diversity-social-feelgood-experience sounding piano or guitar (or they use a song from a B-list band or must include a whistling chorus) to pretend the commercial is meaningful, genuine, or impactful in any way because the visuals and content just don't do it. Thoughts?
@hearttoheart4me4 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. With have taken God and family out of today's society and basically criminalized them. It's all about individual's feelings and fear of not hurting them. And it's only going to get worse. If you want to remember these commercials, you better record them because they will be taken down because somebody will say that they are offended by them for one reason or another. Sad too. May our future Christmases be fill with the joy and the love that we should all feel at Christmas time.

The early 90s commercials were so bland compared to the 80s. The whole American attitude turned so serious after Reagan. People dressed like they were at a military ceremony, humor was completely dead, and the average price of featured gifts probably doubled, not to mention the spike in charitable organizations asking people to donate. It was very depressing in my opinion, but I can understand why a young adult would feel nostalgic about the early 90s.
