The Super Console X is only great for the library of roms, cores, bios. I had a 256gb now 158gb version. Got a X96Max+ cloned the data n it runs much better especially PSP n dreamcast games

​@@farleysmoke5130 I too am a novice and found it baffling at first, but thankfully a few youtube videos helped show how to flash Emuelec onto an sdcard / which dtb file I needed to get the Emuelec 4.0 working on the Android box, then was a simple copy of files from my SCX to my X96Max+ via a sdcard reader n pc. Super Console X for the plug and play is good, just a shame the 1G ram makes games like Dynamite Cop on Dreamcast / A few PSP games to run buggy and slow. Other than that it runs decent overall. It's been said there ain't much difference between the SCX and the Pro version sadly lol

With N64 you have to find which video plugin works best for each game. The thing to remember about N64 is that lots of games will either have tons of graphic glitches or be stutter slow or flat out won't work. Still, games do work, it just doesn't have a one size fits all video plugin for the games.

Can you please measure the size of the Super Console X Stick? I have a TV that has an HDMI out on the side but I don't have a ton of clearance.. Not counting the connector (just counting the black casing bit) how tall is it? thanks.

Very good review man! I have a question: have you tried to see what the average temperature of the device is during use? You can check the device temperature from emulationstation, in the "information" section...

I put it back in the box, so I'm not sure if I'll be bringing it out again. If I liked it more I would! I tested it with my hand after a couple hours of play (great measurement, I know), and it did get warm but not what I would consider hot, or dangerously hot :)

I don't know if you can have scan lines on that device but to stop it looking pixelated but still sharp your better off using bilinear filtering on and then put scan lines on too to sharpen the picture up. This tends to give you the most authentic look on these older games and is how I set up my RetroPie devices.

In terms of handheld emulators, the Retroid Pocket 2 currently has the best N64 performance for under $100. I'm not a big fan of that device because of its buttons and slow interface, but people love it. After that. you really have to increase the price by a lot, the GPD XD+ is probably your next step up.

This is a great review, thank you. It helps me to decide now if i am going to spend extra $20 for added RAM that has no effect in gameplay. I am purely buying the console for just plain plug and play and no uploading games or tweaking stuff. The price of Console X Pro is worth it considering the price i paid for the Used games i bought for my retro machines. I guess in the near future they will come up with another console X in the same budget price that has a better CPU Chipset that can run Sega Saturn games, for these games now are so pricey.

Unfortunately yeah it's built into the loading images. They can be altered with a little FTP magic (or just installing EmuELEC 4.0 cleanly).

Android boxes from scratch is gonna be a long process to download then add all the bios / cores / roms for all the systems, best to get a SCX copy the sd card then get a S905x3 box which runs much better, sell the SCX after so you aint out of pocket

Russ, have you tried plugging in the micro SD card from the Super Console X Pro into the new stick to see it would operate that way? I already have a 256GB setup on my Super Console X Pro; I'd hate having to set it all up again for the stick (plus, I'd rather buy the cheaper 64GB version, and just plug in clone of my already-built 256GB card). Just wondering if you'd tried it since it is the same chipset and everything (different kernals?).

It will definitely work, but you will need to update the dtb file. Check out the Team Pandory video in my description, it’ll walk you through that process. It’s super simple!

One concern I would have is the way its just sticking out the back of some monitors or TV's like that with quite a bit of leverage on the HDMI port itself. My daughter had an android box not dissimilar and in the end she had to get a new port put in as it just pulled on it too much and the light soldering in the TV side just gave up. I'm still rocking my RP3+B based NESPi although I did buy a 620 in 1 mini NES system for the astonishing price of £5 (incl delivery) and whilst it doesn't reach into 64 or 32bit consoles it plays 8 and 16 bit perfectly.

I found a TV box that's basically this same chipset, GPU @750mhz, dual Channel 2GB ram, but the CPU is clocked @2.0 GHz. I guess that if I could manage to further overclock to 2.4ghz CPU and 900mhz GPU it would be a rather capable machine up to PlayStation 1.

Hahaha I have this same exact stick on the way lol (maybe sometime in May?) and I have a cheaper one as well to compare the two (some generic brand that’s crappy, but works - kinda) . Awesome video by the way. I really like the kin hank units as I have a few of them already (super console x and the retro cm3 handheld) and it’s perfect for me without too much fuss - although....I did make my very own android box (as mentioned) in the video and built up my own console and it’s waaaayyyy better than the kin hank units - great video, can’t wait to test out mine and I will review mine as well along with my very own unit That eta prime has a tutorial on how to make your own box. - cheers 😎🔥👍🏻

Have you tested what read speeds are possible with Super Console X Pro or stick? There’s Kingston MicroSD cards that read 100mb/s or 170mb/s. If there’s Android Speedtest that would be interesting. If faster card makes any difference.

just install ReDream for the Dreamcast games. Dreamcast games played poorly on my phone on retroach with Flycast but work just fine on ReDream ;-)

True, Android emulators work pretty well. ReDream doesn't run on this console, but Mupen64FZ does fine. But I didn't want to highlight in this video because if someone wants to do that, I would encourage them to get an Android box with twice the power for half the price.

Hi Russ. I have a Super Console X Pro and I'm looking to get an Android TV box with an S905X3. I was experimenting with Emuelec 3.9 first and installed it from scratch on a microSD and already put in some Genesis and SNES titles. Thing is though, the manuals are missing and the Genesis menu looks so bare. The ROMs/Genesis folder in the microSD card that came with the Super Console doesn't have a manuals folder. How do I transfer all the scraped stuff from my Console X Pro's microSD over to the new SD card? I'd hate to scrape from scratch for all the games when they're already in the Console X Pro's stock microSD. Thanks in advance and keep it up!

Hi, there should be a "media" folder or something along those lines inside of your ROMs folders on the original SD card, and my guess would be the manuals are there. If they aren't then they might be hidden somewhere else on the card. Maybe try moving over the entire Genesis folder from the original SD card to your new one, and see if they pop up. Bear in mind that many games won't have the manuals. Hope that helps!

When I tried to scrape a new folder called manuals was created in the Genesis folder, but the question is, where's the manuals folder in the stock Console X microSD? I think I already tried copying the entire Genesis and SNES folders but the manuals still didn't show up. I think I saw a 'rebuild games list' option in RetroArch. I'll try that. Btw on the new microSD there's a Scripts entry when you browser the consoles. Is it possible to remove it? Thanks again, buddy. 🙂

@@ronch550 Hi, to remove the Scripts, go into one of the EmulationStation menus - UI settings, game settings, or game collection settings (can't remember which one), and under "systems displayed" you can disable it. That is odd about the manuals, I'm not sure where they were in EmuELEC 3.9 but my guess is the developer moved them in later builds.

@@RetroGameCorps oh but the stock and new microSD cards are both 3.9. I also noticed that the stock has three partitions: Emuelec, Storage, and Games, which contains the ROMs folder. In the fresh install of 3.9 there's no games partition and as per tutorials the ROMs folder is in the Storage partition. Ok man I'll try to see where the manuals are. Maybe the KinHank guys did some changes to where the scraped stuff are located. Thanks, man. 🙏

@@ronch550 Ah, okay. Yeah they're using a modified version of EE 3.9 in the stock SCX firmware, to add that GAMES partition. Only in EE 4.0 did you get a games partition. But it's very easy to access the folders from a PC, just type in \\emuelec in your file browser while the SCX is running. Good luck!

Multiple ways but you need a PC. Download the roms from one of many websites found on google, then you simply use the box's i.p address to have your PC bring up all the files then drag n drop said game into the correct rom folder which go by consoles.

Burning question:? How do I resize the game boy screen to its proper 3:2 aspect ratio, and then save it to its associated core in Emuelec ? (You seem very fluent in Retroarch and Emuelec)

You can actually just do that in the EmulationStation settings. Go to Game Settings > Per System Advanced Configuration, and set your "game ratio" (aspect ratio), that should override the RA settings.
