@@RetroGameCorps To be honest, you can just colour that in with a Texta or Sharpie, or just put a black ductape or sticker. It's really not worth listing in the Pro/Cons section. I think a MUCH bigger issue with this controller is how the right stick digs into your palm, accidentally triggering it, when you're just hitting the Action Buttons. Yes, the NSwitch is notorious for this same issue. Companies just don't focus on the end products like they used to. The whole industry seems happy to copy Microsoft here. But the Xbox doesn't have that issue simply because the controller side is that much larger. When this scheme gets adapted to a mobile device, things get squished together, and teething issues like this show themselves. Best solution actually is the WiiU Protroller from 2014, that scheme or layout actually scales down for mobile, and it's what Razer used back in 2019.

I reviewed it on my Spanish channel first and a viewer commented that it can be used with iOS devices if you change the controller to X-Input mode by holding down the XBox button and the A button for a few seconds. The LED will turn blue and the controller will now be detected as an XBox controller and will work flawlessly with both iPhones and Android devices. It even increases the compatibility of games in this mode on the Android side. I have no idea why GameSir doesn't even mention this anywhere, but this controller is wonderful on iOS when you set it in X-Input mode.

One thing people aren't considering is that because the controllers are separated wirelessly, there is one less thing to break. Telescopic controllers have a delicate strip sending data back and forth. Damaging it on accident is fairly common even if the body of the controller doesn't give.

@@TimothyStuder A portable, fully wireless, two piece Bluetooth controller that can support tablets is too much of an ask. If you look at this design, the only thing holding it back from supporting tablets is the clamps. Making the clamp a single horizontal design would drop the design back to a large single piece controller. Personally, I didn't get why not supporting tablets or iOS is a drawback. This is a niche enough product where any normal person would only have one device they would buy this for. If that device is an iphone, they don't buy this one. If it's a tablet, again, look elsewhere. For me, since I've broken multiple telescopic controllers the way I mentioned above, where they're fully intact but one side or both no longer function, I love this design and always wanted something similar to the Joy cons minus the drift.

I will assume that you are talking about razer kishi, but at least in my X2 Pro (and non pro, i have both), it uses 4 long retention springs as electrical connection between the two halves, which is IMO will outlast the buttons and USB C port. Speaking of USB port, I don't know about other controllers, but the one in X2 does have flex cable (because is moves back and forth), which I imagine will be the first one to go. Different brands, different problems I guess.

I agree this seems like a design idea made to work, without a lot of thought into how it will actually be used. it's like they had this cool concept of a controller that focused on being compact by interlocking in on itself, but they were afraid to commit and give up full-size ergonomics and sticks. I think if they had done the interlocking thing but kept the grips and sticks down around Joycon size, even with the subpar ergonomics and less sturdy phone mounts, I can see there being a demand for this by people who want that controller they really can just keep in their pocket, hip bag, purse, etc.

I really love the compact form factor. Finally a controller that is somewhat pocketable to go with your phone.
@ekinteko4 ай бұрын
This. True purpose of this product is to "try" to be pocketable for your phone. I think it largely succeeds. It is a very underserved market. The only device that gets close is the Razer Kishi, and that has a flappy middle, and hard side shells. But the first position by a longshot is the Razer JungleCat. Remove the joycons, slap them together, and stuff them into a pocket. It works too well !!!
@ekinteko4 ай бұрын
Adding on from the Razer JungleCat. If you had one since 2019, and an ageing Samsung S10+ you had a good run. Truly. It was like the hidden gem, that aged like wine or a PS Vita Slim. And the gold standard is to keep using your Razer JungleCat, because there really aren't real alternatives to it. Not even this new GameSir X4. All you have to do for your Razer JungleCat is just ask someone to 3D Print you a Phone Case for your next phone. Wether that's the very pocketable and very impressive Samsung S24+ (fits into the Note9 case from Razer) or maybe the upcoming Google Pixel 9XL (for the root and custom roms). All of the above is for pocketable segment, where you don't need to bring a backpack or other type of bag. If you do step up, for the portable segment, you basically have a few options. The first is a telescopic controller for your tablet. The best example is the GameSir G8 controller. And the second option here is an actual controller. For example, in your backpack you have your tablet AND your Xbox controller AND a kickstand for the tablet AND a flat surface to place it on. The segment above that is a stationary device, which you add peripherals to turn it into gaming. Best example would be to have a Standard Desktop PC, and then if you add something like Racing Wheel, suddenly it's great for that mode of gaming. The above utilise an existing device and add tactile controls, but, you can have a standalone device instead. Again standalone device for gaming, you need to consider the different segments like pocketable or portable or stationary. The best pocketable device that's dedicated for gaming currently is the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro. The best portable device that's dedicated for gaming currently is the Valve SteamDeck OLED. The best stationary device that's dedicated to gaming currently is the Sony PS5 Pro. Again, there are lots of options whichever way you slice it. It really depends on a personal preference.

Anyway, thanks for the Honest review 😊

Man it did look like a very interesting controller, but here are the things I don't like about it: 1) Its android only, so you basically can only use it with your phone for the most part, and while emulation is decent on Android, I prefer emulating on PC and one of the nice things about the 8BitDo controllers, is that they are multi system so you can use them for all sorts of stuff, and even reprogram most with the ultimate software. 2) It does not fit tablets. 3) It cannot charge your device while you use the controllers. 4) At $100 its just too expensive for what it is.. What I did like based on what I saw with your review: 1) The buttons and sticks can be removed and changed. 2) The controllers connect wirelessly to each other before they connect to the device you wanted to connect it to, and that is just awesome because things like the Nintendo Switch Joy Cons, are a pain to work with just because they are different devices when you pair them up. 3) When you store them they look very cool and when you separate them it looked satisfying. So that's pretty much the impression I got from them, so if I received them as a gift or something I'd be happy since it didn't cost me anything, but if I had to buy them for myself then I would look for something else.

It has a use! Don't you know the rog phones have a cooler which you can place in the middle? With that we can also have a controller while also using the cooler

Man I think I almost like it. I just wish they could have done something much better than that green clips. I hate the branding but it is also a missed opportunity that we can use phones (or tablets) vertically. Why would I want to play vertically? For DS games lol

Did youvforget about how small the Razer Kishi is or is this review only about the BT controlers?

Could you use it with tablets by connecting it using the detatched joycon style?

Yes, similar to what Russ did at 18:00 you can connect it to an Android tablet.

Russ! Love the vids. Would love if you could keep us updated on RG35XXSP custom firmware options and updates. It looks like all the options you presented in the review have some tough tradeoffs. I stuck with the stock firmware because it seemed the most optimized for now. MinUI not supporting advanced emulators or internet is a dealbreaker, and the others don’t seem to officially support the SP with power and clamshell options. Thanks for all you do!

They could've just as easily used a rubber that has a reusable sticky layer you wash off in the sink. I don't know why they used such a cheap bumper sticker. or they could've had a mechanism that either applies pressure from the back and pushes against the back, or a flipout foot that pops out to accommodate the thinner size. if you're spending $100 on a controller the backbone is probably a better choice for portability or the lavender gamesir one is probably good too. maybe they could put a USB C on one side. one side is wired in and the other is connected to the main one via 2.4g. that way you still get passthrough and headphone support should you choose it. make the USB port on a slider so you can pop it in if you have a device you want to use totally wirelessly.

i really wish they would make a strong telescopic controler like the g8 with usb c but for tablets, even if it uses a band system on something to keep the 2 sides connected to the sides of the tablet,

@RetroGameCorps i love your reviews but this one is done with little research although i think gamesir is the one to blame instead of you since they failed to advertise it so. this gamepad has 3 connection modes and if you press the xbox button + a then it gets detected as gamesir x4 and doesn't work on iphone and if you press xbox button + b then its xbox mode and it gets detected as xbox series controller and works on iphone. and here is the big thing, listen closely if you press the xbox and start or whatever the top button is on left side and then the share and select on right side it becomes 2 controllers just like joycons on switch. i literally play contra with my brother with this. also one benefit of backless design is you can use a phone cooler with it if you are playing genshin on it on max settings cause then the phone tends to heat up. also they do provide stl files to 3d print a middle connector and extenders to use tablets or fold phones, i know a bit sad they dont provide it themselves but i mean it cost me like 4 usd in my country to get it 3d printed online so yeah this fixes a lot of things. i hope you give this controller another shot cause i seriously love mine.

After buying the g8 and doing a slight mod with removing plastic for a 12inch tablet, can't see using something that cannot allow that.

I have one on the way. Hopefully it works even with my case on. (S24 ultra and Dbrand grip case) Probably won't but at least it's more compact then the Galileo.

How is the repairing experience? I'd like a controller that can easily switch between my iPad and iPhone.

The triangle thing does come off. Use a coin or something to pry it. What it's for is a complete mystery, though. I've looked all over and can't figure it out.

They should sent a analog stick cap, for when you just want a full 2D experience. And I would add a faux phone connection, to just used as a regular bt controller

I think it's probably called an aileron because when you detach it you roll it over. Like the graphic on the box.

I think Aileron is referring to the green flaps on the controller.

I’m curious. I currently have a backbone now that RetroArch and Delta are on iOS. However, the Backbone analog sticks are a bit like Nintendo switch analog sticks and I never cared for those. I like something more like Xbox or PlayStation. Would this controller be better for me in the aspect that I want analog stick like PlayStation or Xbox controllers?

I don't see this asked in the comments, or talked about anywhere, but is it possible to just use the right half and hold the phone in portrait mode? I'm looking for a solution for vertical shmups, and while I could use a spacer on a larger controller like a backbone or g8, this could fill that need perfectly if the phone would hold in. Any thoughts?
