You have created a monster within me. I have began collecting these amazing handheld machines. I have a Steam Deck, RP3+, RG353V and M, and 3x Miyoo Mini (I want all the colors). This is a fun hobby where the tinkerer within me can play and tweak everything I want! Thank you for all the hard work you’ve done. I’m looking forward to your next year of content. Love your breakdowns and attention to detail. Well done sir!

You are a content beast. I almost never seriously consider actually purchasing the handhelds, but watching your videos is such an entertaining and informative experience that I'll devour them anyway. Watching these is the best way I know to window shop gaming products, and it'll drench my consumerist thirst 99% of the time. You do more for the retro gaming community than many brands that rely on their consumers to even exist will ever be capable of doing. I hope the Retro Game Corps team and all their loved ones have a great 2023. Thank you so so much.

Honestly was super disappointed in the RP2+. Have no idea why everyone was singing its praises. Who cares if it had a decent processor for the time, the screen is shit and the buttons feel like shit and it runs on crappy Android instead of linux. Miyoo Mini is a home run though. Just don't drop it.

My favorite is the Miyoo Mini, ive easily put in hundreds of hours of gameplay on this device, its insanely portable and can slip into any pocket in a moments notice, its one of those devices you can just drop into your bag or pocket without a second thought. OnionOS is basically what's missing for _all_ handhelds that aren't the Miyoo mini. I miss it whenever I start any other handheld. I wish someone would be able to create such an "OS" for all the other handhelds, too. It's a much better system for playing your ten most favourite retro games often. And since you almost never use a "sleep" function and rather have the device shutdown inbetween sessions, its battery life remains on the up n' up for weeks if you should choose to use it rarely. I _just_ wish we could have this incredible ease of use in the form factor and size of a GameBoy Color or Gameboy Advance.

MiniUI is also a fantastic CFW in its own right. I have seen the Miyoo Mini skyrocket in terms of pricing, even the official Miyoo Ali Express store has the device for 80$ nowadays, and you can easily find it for 120-200$ scalper prices on ebay. I bought the V2 version for 50$ and it has been INSANE in terms of value and convenience. I have finally been able to replay-, and play tons of awesome JRPGs from the 90's on Playstation, Mega Drive and Super Nintendo. The main reason why I have been able to it on this specific device is due to Onion OS. It is SO easy to get in- and out of games, and the fast forward feature makes turn-based fighting a breeze. The screen is gorgeous, scaling is perfect, buttons and d-pad are wonderful! I highly recommend it! I currently play Grandia on the Playstation... 10 hours of playtime. 20hours in-game (since most fighting has been fast-forwarded) Sure, I love my Steam Deck, but the Miyoo Mini is in many cases my preferred device and the console I always bring with me.

What i love the most about the Steam Deck is its 16:10 display because that will always be my favorite screen format. Having the width of 16:9 but also the vertical space of 4:3. So it makes the best use of space imho. Something i really don't see on most other handheld machines. Say, how well does the Logitech handheld handle Dreamcast? Amazingly the RG505 can run PS2 Final Fantasy XII, Final Fantasy X, Persona 3/4 and Suikoden III/V. The only games I want to play that doesn't run well is Valkyrie Profile 2 and Xenosaga. As primarily an old school JRPG gamer this is more than good enough for me at half the price of an Odin.

Miyoo Mini v2 (using Onion OS) would be my favourite handheld of the year. Closely followed by Steam Deck (its screen lets it down) and Ayn Odin Lite (delays, poor communications, officially acknowledged case cracking issue and the screen fiasco being the negative points).

I cracked and modded out a vita and told myself that it was all I really needed. But after watching a few of your steamdeck reviews I added it to my Christmas list. There are just too many games that can be played on it that can’t be covered by either my switch or my vita. Thanks for all the great content this year! I was thinking of upgrading the memory on the 400 dollar deck, do you feel it’s necessary or worth the possibility that I could goof the case up in the process? Thanks again

Thanks so much for this video, a nice way to cap off this year. I dove in with an Anbernic RG351P on yours and many other channels' recommendations, and since picked up a Miyoo Mini. I agree that there is just something wonderful about having a dedicated device purely for games, even if smartphones can technically do that just as well. With so many handhelds coming out, I do worry about oversaturation, but I am hopeful that some companies will continue to raise the bar. I watch all your videos even if I have no plans to buy the thing because your breakdowns are really detailed and interesting. Wishing you all the best and looking forward to seeing your output in 2023!

Love these videos! I have a RP3 and steamdeck and both are great for different scenarios. I am considering looking upgrading the RP3 to the RP3+, but I might just wait till the inevitable RP4 since the RP3 regular is more than enough for GBA and most PSP games, which is primarily what I am interested in.

Definitely wait for an RP4 or 4+ if they keep the trend up, the jump from 3 to 3+ isn't worth the upgrade.

I would definitely go with the Odin Pro, even over the steam deck. The deck is too cumbersome, and the ease of use of android emulators is top-notch. Tempted to mess around with a miyoo mini though, when I can find one..

I have both and the steam deck is not as friendly for long play sessions as the odin. Personally I recommend just using the steam deck to play some of your steam library and if you’re a retro gamer get the Odin.

the rp2+ was my gateway drug.. i gave that to my brother to justify buying the ayn odin. i backed them on igg. the whole process was very interesting. they were very open and transparent about development and shipping issues. customer support was also exemplary. one of the joystick started to drift and they sent me a replacement for free. then my steam deck arrived and i have barely used my gaming rig since. and just recently i bought 2 miyoo minis which is my most used system at the moment. love 'em all lol.

@@SerpWerx i bought one from a random reseller on aliexpress and paid a scalper price. then i discovered keepretro. it looked legit and i was unsure if the other one would even arrive here. i paid ~75 bucks for the one from keepretro. others are warning people to buy from them, i can only say that my experience was good. the keepretro one came first, the other one i sold on ebay (for a small profit actually). i had to go through all this because i live in germany and the official miyoo store on aliexpress does not deliver to germany. so if you are able to buy from them directly, i would advise to do that. they are constantly out of stock but there are videos about showing when to order. just be a little patient.

Overall it's been an excellent year for pushing the envelope, but I'm starting to get concerned that handhelds are becoming less and less affordable. Most new handhelds' msrp starts at over $100. I still think there is a market for a sub $100 handheld that can play up through ps1 just fine and the Miyoo Mini proves that. Of course, after saying that, I want my next handheld to be the RP3+ to start scratching that gamecube itch.

Looks like I dropped in this world in the correct year! Actually I'm undecided between Rp3+ and Odin. From the first one I like the shape and the button layout. From Odin I like the higher emulation possibilities but I dislike the price 😅 Since I don't like compromises I think Odin will be my choice.

I purchased a brand new AYN Odin Base with the Super Pack (Super Dock, Carrying Bag, Hard Shell, Charging Cable, HDMI Cable, Earbuds, Wall Charger, & Screen Protector) a few weeks back for just the price of the Odin Base unit itself after not being completely satisfied with what the otherwise awesome Retroid Pocket 2+ could offer me personally. Safe to say it was the bargain of the year for me! I still can't believe I got so lucky! Except for the cheap price I didn't have to wait for months either like I probably would've been doing if I've ordered it on AYN's Indiegogo site! This channel guided me in being interested in both the Retroid Pocket 2+ and the AYN Odin and it all begun after my son got interested in a Powkiddy V90... because of this channel! The guides for the Retroid Pocket 2+ and the AYN Odin and guides like the one for RetroArch on this channel has also helped me a lot! Thank you Russ for your awesome content! Here's hoping for a great 2023! ❤️

Another great video in service to this (still) growing community. For me, steam deck, hands down… I also picked up a miyoo mini, RG353p… but honestly haven’t had a chance to use them much because of the steam deck… Was going to pick up the RP3, but fortunately didn’t, since the RP3+ came out shortly after. Holding off on buying it because of a raging case of tendinitis from too much gaming, combined with crazy times at work. Hope to get back to it ASAP so I can finish GOW Ragnarok… keep up the great work Russ!

One thing I would add for 4:3 gaming is that the Retroid Pocket 2+ is still an excellent choice at a very good price point. So if you're looking at the Anbernic 353M and not enjoying the idea of spending that much or if you're looking at the RP3+ and wishing for a cheaper and smaller device/screen for your needs, the RP2+ still holds up here at the end of 2022 and basically will continue to fill that sweet spot.

An honourable mention (In the GC, PS and streaming categories) for me would be the GPD XP Plus. It has great controls, a powerful Dimensity 1200 SoC and insane battery life. My 4:3 mention would be the RG353P - feels great, plays great, very nostalgic SNES controller vibe.
