Now that I have my Odin 2 Pro I feel as if I've come to the end of my handheld journey. It all started for me a looooong time ago with the GP2X. Since then I've bought systems from AtGames, Gameboy style Famiclones, Raspberry Pi enclosures, systems from GPD, Anbernic, Powkiddy and a whole host of other companies never to be heard of ever again. I think I must have 40+ devices - not including the big hitters from Nintendo and Sony (or my really old stuff like the Game Gear and Lynx) - and I love them all. Even though they all have their quirks and bandiness. Sometimes because of their quirks and bandiness! But the Odin 2 Pro, for me, is just about perfect. It seems to do everything just about right, with no compromises. It plays all the games I want to play in a convenient form factor. I can't imagine anything coming along that would be so much better I'd want to upgrade. And for everything else, there's my Steam Deck. Anyway, I'm sure somebody found that ramble interesting 😁

I lowered the Odin 2's temps massively by replacing the default thermal pads with some Upsiren UTP-8 thermal putty. This actually caused more heat to escape via the copper plate and heatpipe, rather than going into the LCD screen.

@@54356776well it depends on what you want and how much you are willing to do to make it work. 🤷🏽‍♂️ Some of us in the community like to tinker and don’t mind opening things up to modify or improve something that is already good to make it better. This is the perfect device for me. I have a steam deck oled, but it is too big for my pockets, but I do enjoy the ability to play my PC games on the go. The Odin 2 Mini is perfect in that is solves the problem of having a pocketable device that I can play all the emulation that I need. Odin 2 Mini, Steam Deck OLED, and PC is my new gaming stack

I was put off by the Mini led screen because I want a oled screen but this review has me back on to ordering one. I love that it can get bright for outside use but also dim for at night use. The vignetting and blooming are a none issue for me. The battery life was my decider. I'm glad it can get at least 2 to 3 hours on switch but my intended use is mainly PS2 and PSP emulation with 3 to 4 hours which is enough for me. My original PS Vita oled is still colourful and bright after so many years of use. Thanks for this review. It made my decision easier. 😊

Beacon picked up on this without touching a single setting!

I’ve got a base model on preorder. I travel a lot and with my personal item bag there is barely any room if I have my work laptop and noise cancellation headphones in there. With snacks, chargers, a couple of personal items, it’s already getting out of hand. This device is about as large as I am comfortable with trying to fit in there. Honestly a Steam Deck and case seem like they would take the entire bag, I’m not even sure I’d be able to fit my headphone case in there. That’s why I went with the Odin 2 Mini. The sacrifices for being ultra portable are pretty minimal, especially compared to any other device on the market where the only other real competition is the RP4 Pro and Anberbic Cube. In my opinion you have to make huge sacrifices when comparing the other portable systems that struggle to play some PS2 and GameCube games to the Odin 2 Mini.

As someone who doesn't play fps games, I find the Odin 2 mini more appealing to me. The games that I'll probably use the stick more often are Okami when I'm using the celestial brush and Shinobido since movements require to use the stick, and changing of equipped inventory is on dpad. Shadow Hearts, Onimusha 3, Genji, Tekken 5, these games that I play require precise button input and reaction timing and I mainly use dpad for them

i think an OLED would have been better than a mini led no because of the vibrancy i think that comes down to AYN's tuning. i think the main problem is A. OLED is a much more refined technology than mini led and doesn't suffering from ghosting. and B. it's actually cheaper than mini-led and the device could have been more price competitive. the only advantages mini led have over OLED are brightness and lack of burn-in.

What sucks is I got the device a few days ago, it worked fine and the screen looks amazing. I follow Russ’s guide to set up the Odin 2 since the mini is just a pocketable version of it. And after all that time and effort I finally emulate a game. For some reason the device gets like really hot, I’m almost thinking the fan did not kick on or something and the screen goes out. Like I see light blobs where as if perhaps the leds are working but the image is not showing just light where the images should be… smh now I gotta rma this thing. In regards to dpad positioning I think it depends on how you place your thumb, I use the joint of my thumb, so its more comfortable to have it on the bottom, but someone that uses the top or just above the joint would probably prefer to have the dpad up top and I think a lot of people dont realize there are different ways to use your thumb for inputs. Using the joint always felt more natural to me growing up playing fighting games and evetually I developed a callous that made it even easier to do.

I think it's cool they were able to produce the Odin 2 in a mini form factor with a PSV looking shell. Really cool that it's possible, but the sweet spot for me is the original Odin 2. I chose it over the steam deck due to it's perfect size, and battery life. The ergonomics seem to grow on me the more I pick it up. I can see the mini being perfect for a certain segment of the market, but for me the original is king. Software limitations are literally the only thing holding it back, Winlator development and other Emu's keep things exciting though.

Where I'm looking for that PS2, GC in a pocketable handheld though it's where I see the Odin 2 mini pro excel over RP4P, Odin 2. The thermals, higher price and 4+3rd point I forget, give me pause. If I'm looking for pc handheld, then I'm not going to get that Odin 2 over the mini. It's in that space for me due to its largess. Though the battery life is compelling. My interest in the pro over base is Windows emulation.

Mmhmm that's how I ended up w 4 handhelds! At least it was easy to say no to this one. After tax, carrying case, screen protector + $18 shipping and $20 for a mem card, the non-Pro cones out to $425! Will stick w my RP3+ 🤓

I love both of the Odin 2 and Odin 2 mini. My only IF I have is Android as an OS. But something I am not opposed to. Want it. Mostly want to use it for PS Vita, PSP, PS2, Game Cube, Switch, and older consoles. But being able to play a PC game like Diablo 4 would be neat. My only handheld devices are the PS Vita 1000 series and 3DS XL old series.

This is the only device that would make sense to me buying, since for me a handheld makes no sense playing at home. I only use them when don’t have my console around, like on vacation or traveling.the power this tiny handheld has is insane. The other are way to bulky. The steam deck is the worst to me. That’s why I liked using my rp4+ so far but the extra juice we get here makes it a great experience, even if the display is the weakest part. I wish it would have the rp5 display.

it should beat the RP4P in everything except that the Odin 2 Mini has the left analog stick in the wrong place.

I can't decide between these 2 devices! 3 if we include the regular odin 2. I like to have a smaller form factor- the steam deck is just too big for my use case. But, idk if the odin 2 mini is worth paying double compared to the rp4p.

Looking forward to the Odin 2 MAXI in a few months (and your review of it), with a 6.5 or 7 inch screen, which would make for the perfect portable backpackable pawheld.

Btw with the latest winulator You can play Grand Theft Auto 4 at decent speeds on the Odin 2 No joke just cap the dxvx to 30fps Also, it has to be the complete edition of GTA 4 And winulator hates the l2 r2 button so you would have to configure the touch controls to work with the controller. But other than that GTA 4 ON THE GO WITH A DECENT BATTERY LIFE (steam deck would probably have its battery die within a couple hours but better frame rate.) THAT ALONE IS WORTH THE PRICE OF ADMISSION.

Anyway, i had the odin 2, i loved it, but the screen died on me without reason. I was thinking about getting another odin 2, but i felt "burned", even if i got my money back. A different technology for the screen is mainly what drove me to the odin 2 mini. I hope it will arrive soon and that it will be good.

I enjoyed this video, as I do your others, but… when you talked about the fan being “pretty quiet and hard to really hear” and played the sound, that is not what I’d call “quiet”, it was noticeably loud, at least for me
@Bugside
@Bugside 7 ай бұрын
You can't judge loudness via video, you don't know how close the mic was, among other things. Only way is by comparison, if he says it's less noisy than a handheld you know, there you go
@Dragoonnight
@Dragoonnight 7 ай бұрын
@@Bugside but tbf, we can make inferences on loudness via the video, as he specifically had that section that for us to hear it, otherwise he wouldn't have included the sound clip in the first place. Also he said "your probably not hearing much" when again, I could hear it pretty distinctly, and again tbf, imo

@@Dragoonnight I have another hobby, motorcycles, and I have hours spent comparing exhausts sounds on my bike model on KZbin (don't you judge me). One thing I can tell you is that via video you can compare sound tone, but not loudness,unless there's a back to back comparison same camera, same position, same setup. And even so is only relative to each other. Only other way is if the guy is talking and you can hardly hear him, now THAT'S loud. But there's no handheld like that, just bikes lol
@Dragoonnight
@Dragoonnight 7 ай бұрын
@@Bugside Well again tbf, my point is more that I based my thoughts on the clip "he" included and commented on of the fan running, and based on that, I thought it was loud "to me", cause as I was answering to your above, your first comment was "you can't judge loudness via video", but thats why he includes clips like that, so we can judge for ourselves (also the only judgement you get from me is that motorcycles are awesome, so you have a very cool hobby!😄)

Whenever the ANBERNIC RG40XX is released. I would like to see a display and size comparison between the RG40XX and the Odin 2 Mini. They are both considered alternate versions of the PS-Vita. I also think both displays are the same height despite one being a 4 inch and the other being a 5 inch.
