As somebody who has a Retroid Pocket 4 Pro (in no small amount thanks to your coverage of it) and *really* likes it, you're right on the money - the size is the reason I love it and my interest in the Odin 2 Mini would absolutely be about trying to get more power and capability in that compact form factor. As someone that has a ps vita oled and loves it dearly, fully hacked it and even got dreamcast working on it -- I can't use it for extended periods of time without the huge grips they made for it. I think there are quite a few people that are going to buy this for the vibes, but just because the form factor was made before doesn't make it good. It looks beautiful, I agree, but I really think you'd be better off buying something that is more ergonomic than buying this and then buying a grip that destroys the portability. I think the same would be said for the ever-popular gameboy SP. If you are nostalgic for it, great -- but you're probably an adult with adult hands now, and that nostalgia is not going to matter after a few hours.

Good break down. I would like to add miniled isn't just for brightness. It's good for black levels, especially when playing in the dark as you have individual dimming zones. IPS contrast is absolutely terrible, so black levels are atrocious. Miniled alleviates that issue. People get miniled for the same reason someone wants an OLED screen, better black levels. Except you don't have to worry about possible burn in like OLED & they do get brighter on average for highlights. It's a good middle ground, even if it doesn't reach OLED levels on a whole.

So devices like the GPD Win-Mini, and the AYN Odin Mini, well they may actually not have an audience or a use-case. Or at least it might be a tiny niche, of this already small niche hobby. For something small, you make a lot of compromises. But the key factor is to lean towards the advantages. If it's very small, but not really pocketable, well what is the point ? And likewise, if you say let's go portable and make a larger device, then you should try to cram all those good things in there and not miss out. For example, the Anbernic RG 556 is a device that makes zero sense to someone who already has an AYN Odin2, or an iPad, or a SteamDeck.

Only the first gen Vita used OLED, and I honestly believe that subsequent models that used LCD screens were overall better devices, if only for the extra battery life and more than sufficient brightness. As an inside and aging people, the Odin mini triggered me to stop waiting and buy an Odin 2 Max for a number of reasons. First the larger screen of the Odin 2. Second Max because of comments on Texture packs and including cost of SD being considered. The vignetting of the mini was an additional push in the back. And ergonomics wise, I love my PS Vita, but I added a fairly sizeable grip to it to make it less crampy in my adult hands. ;)

This was nice. More natural and off the cuff. You did well for someone who didn't sleep.

This device is perfect for my needs. Excellent for emulation and I can easily stream my PC games to it. The portability is my biggest deciding factor.

If the odin 2 mini had been announced when the RP4Pro was coming out, I probably would've waited. As it is, I am a TINY bit disappointed in the RP4pro's PS2 performance, some titles are just not playable like shadow of the colossus, but I wanted something smaller than the odin 2 to bridge between my Miyoo mini plus and my steam deck. And since retroid has started selling back shells for $5, I replaced my beige RP4pro's back with a watermelon back and swapped the beige buttons, to make a two-tone watermelon and beige look that's like an early 2000's idea of a retro modern famicom. And I tried out the trick of dying a clear grip to the same watermelon with synthetic fabric dye and nailed it, with a red 3d printed front case, and it's kinda amazing to me again. Now I just need sakuraretromod to make some ABXY buttons for it. But if I get through my 3ds and gamecube library and start running into PS2 games that it struggles with, I might consider this, I remember really enjoying the PSvita form factor before mine was stolen. Now I need to tell myself to not buy anything else for a good while. I haven't even had time to really touch my RGB20SX since it came, all my time is spent studying for the MCAT and I barely have time to play what I DO have, lol. I only ever really get to play my Miyoo Mini plus because it fits in my uniform pants pocket and is really great for playing a bit of a game between 911 calls - I do wish there was a better, brighter screen for it (or even a matte anti-glare screen protector) and that it had a more powerful amplifier circuit for headphones. I'm strongly considering getting the anbernic SP, but am waiting to see how (if it ever even comes out) the MM flip performs, since I'd like the joysticks as an option (as long as it has something like an RK3566 so it can play some N64 and dreamcast titles)
