FYI for those installing Freedom planet, the initial load screen (black with blinking white dash) took about 30seconds or more to progress to the game

Yep, I mention it in the video that the initial load takes up to 90 seconds. Just enough time for someone to think that something's gone wrong :)

Russ, would you recommend that we take any games we've already installed via Anberports and remove those in favor of reinstalling this way? Wasn't sure if mixing and matching would result in some system conflicts or anything.

I think that as long as the current port is working fine via the AnberPorts method, there won't be much value in switching to the PortMaster version. With the exception of AM2R, definitely switch to this new one!! :)

Another good guide from Retro Game Corps. That's excellent, thank you so much for your work in putting these together. However, please do not instruct people to rename file extensions to one that doesn't match the file's internal type. If for some reason your .tar files aren't already associated with 7-zip, you can open them by just right-clicking the file and looking for the 7-zip option. Changing file extensions as a matter of course is going to ultimately cause more problems than it solves. I'm sorry to be a meany but that one is just terrible advice. Heck, it's not even gonna work for anyone that actually needs the instruction anyway, because Windows defaults to not even letting you see file extensions.

Took me a couple of tries to have AM2R running but it runs perfect now on my RG351M. TIP: for better screen resolution go to the in-game screen settings and enable the 'wide screen' option. As soon as you make a screen transition it will look perfect.

How did you get AM2R to cooperate? I've downloaded several versions of the apk and renamed them as instructed, but not joy. Is there a specific version that works? I've tried HQ music and regular music versions of 1.5, 1.5.2, and 1.5.5 with the same result every time, crashing on load

@@angelusmortalis hi. In the video he says the port uses the lastest version. I paused the video before he renamed the apk and it's 1.5.2 wich is still the lastest version. But when I say it took me a couple tries is because at first it didn't run so I had to delete the port directly from the device (pressing 'select' over the game you'll find the 'delete game' option) and I also deleted the game folders from the SD on my pc. After that I followed the guide step by step and finally got it working. Btw I'm not shure if my version has the HQ music or the LQ but I think it's the LQ because of the size. It souldn't matter tho. Hope this helps you making it work cause you'll have some fun playing it ✌🏻 Edit: sorry, you say there is a 1.5.5 version but the one I got running is 1.5.2

Everyone should really try out Hydra Castle Labyrinth. It is a 2d side scrolling exploration game. The physics take a bit to get used to but the gameplay is really addicting.

I am on the lastest version of ARKOS however portmaster doesn't appear in my list, I discovered that if I switch to main SD card for ROMS I then have a TOOLS option and portmaster is located within that menu, however anything I have installed like super mario wars or quake 1 doesn't work. Do you think it's time to do a RG351p post-mortem? As it seems the custom firmwares seem to be slowing down, and as the market seems to be moving past it in the near future. I started a job that doesn't give me much time left to tinker with the firmwares and roms (I'm still to make my SNES library), so I'm planning on doing a backup of my saves and moving over to the newest ArkOS release (maybe even this new fork), I've been using an older 351Elec firmware for a while now, and it would be awesome for an updated list of pros and cons of each firmware to decide for a mostly-permanent final update

Unpopular opinion, but I think it's time to do a postmortem on ArkOS, since they have abandoned the RG351P/M. Those devices are arguably the most popular handhelds in this line. Why devs keep supporting it with apps instead of 351elec, etc, is beyond me. The 351V is awkward and crampy and the build quality on non-RG351 devices is butt. I thought about an MP, but I'm holding off on buying handhelds until I get my Steam Deck preorder; it might replace them all anyway.

hey :) not sure if you can help out here but running duke nukem 3d atomic edition from my rg351p works fine, except for some reason maybe the controls are wonky as, because it keeps making me look down to the floor?? try to aim up with the right stick but it keeps sagging towards looking down low and its fairly quick about it too, very annoying. are the controls setup shoddy with trying to use the 351 button layout or something? cheers

I was questioning buying on of those devices. I would like to play Wipeout 1 2 3, Sega Rally, Pc-engine CD, Neo-Geo, Vectrex, and more common systems... Do you recommend RG351mp or not because of 351Elec and ArkOS development stoping, or slowdown because of screen resolution ? I'm a little afraid for RG552 it seems to work with android. Does this have Streets of Rage Remake? i followed your guide to get SORR on the RG351v running on arkOS but the game drastically slows down after the first 1-2 stages edit.. oh i saw SoRR. i hope this version wont slow down after 2 stages

To any one having this issue here is info from the PostMaster Wiki Note: If you experience a slowdown in gameplay after sometime, force exit the game (You can use the normal force exit hotkey combination for your device), then start the game again and it will start from the beginning of the last stage you were on and be full speed for a few more stages. It's the best workaround for the issue for now until someone can figure out and resolve the root cause of the slowdown. now if i can just figure out how how to use the force exit key on my RG351v, or where it is

Thats crazy, there's gotta be a better work around. I play sorr on my ldk handheld and it has very little slowdown, it definitely doesn't have as good of specs as the RG351

how do you even get to the options menu ? i bought an sd card preloaded with ark os and games are there but i don’t see menu or settings options . there is a ports page but when i enter that its just games . im trying to access the ports on the sd to try and run a music making system called m8 headless , but so far no luck . im also not familiar what buttons or combos do what on anbernic as im new to these devices.

Not a huge update, probably won't warrant a new video. It includes the ability to boot into RetroArch directly, a couple new (relatively obscure) emulators, video filters, and the ability to swap A/B buttons in the menu. Uhh, just adding ".7z" to the end of a file doesn't do anything to convert. You are just changing the file name. The 7zip application is just smart and sees that the file is just another format it understands. For a ".tar" or even a ".tar.gz' file just Right Click > 7-zip > Open Archive. No need to do any renaming, just need 7zip installed.

Hello Russ I would like your help on installing portmaster on emuelec 4.5 on rgb10max 2, was using retro oz previously but had to change it it was super buggy with controller keys and hotkeys, so I installed emuelec everything is working perfectly except for ports couldn't find Undertale, half life ports even though I added their folders and files in the ports folder exactly like retro oz, guess installing portmaster will fix this issue, what do you think?

same performance although GPD runs android so there are more emulator options. These smaller retro handhelds are more for comfort and style; it's nice to keep retro games in a neat little library.

Dunno what I'm doing wrong. I have the RG351V, updated to the latest version via wifi, and neither Portmaster nor Thememaster are there. EDIT: I just manually added them to my second SD card. My only guess is that it doesn't see it because it wasn't on the second SD card.

Alright. I'm on RG353V and I wanted to install portmaster so i can play celeste on the device, and luckily, i use arkOS, so its already ready to be setup. But i ran into a problem (that has to do with portmaster) and then another problem (which has to do with the device itself). I'll start with the first one. The 1st problem is that even though portmaster is pre-installed on arkOS, everytime i tried to launch it, i would get a black screen, than some random code in white text would flash on the screen for a split second (idk what it said cause it was too fast and i cant even see it anymore, but i'll get to that) and then it would dissapear, go back to a black screen, and just send me back to the home menu. it happened EVERYTIME i tried to launch portmaster. so i turned to youtube comments on another video for help, and i was told to reinstall it from his guide, so i did, and it didn't change anything. i repeated this 3 times with him updating the download links to be the newest versions, but NONE of them WORKED. he then told me to go to a discord server he linked for troubleshooting, but i don't have discord and i dont really wanna make a discord account just for celeste on the rg353v. but now i cant even ask you for help on installing portmaster and getting it to work because i have problem number 2: everything i jsut told you was like 3 weeks ago, but now whenever i try to just turn the system on, with the way arkOS works, if the sd card (the one with the games and stuff on it) isn't inserted, it just refuses to boot into arkOS and just loads for a bit before going to a black screen forever. the thing is the second sd card IS INSERTED (why wouldn't it be?) but the system doesn't recognize it, at least in linux mode. I switched to android mode and a notification told me to scan the sd card to fix it, so i scanned it, and it didn't tell me what the problem was, but it said to fix the sd card, i needed to format it. but formatting will delete all the data on there and i dont wanna delete all my games from the system (especially because some of the games were a whole GB and i dont have space to reinstall them on my laptop). it says to back up the data to somewhere else (like my laptop) to avoid data loss, but when i upgraded my SD card from the included 64 GB to a 128 GB one, it took 4-5 hours to copy all the data, and i really dont wanna wait that long again. so those are my problems that im here to ask to fix. portmaster doesnt open, linux refuses to work, yeah you get it. what can i do?

If you're using ArkOS, they go in the /roms/bios/mame2003-plus/samples folder. It should be a similar setup if you're using 351ELEC, but their documentation doesn't specify!
